I figured today would be a great day to sit down, get cozy, and write a post. So here goes nothing on the first "Food for Thought Moment"!
This week I'd like to sit and discuss about "Minding our Mindset".. ðŸ§
I'm always finding myself reminding riders that one of our most powerful tools in riding is our mind. Whether its positively or negatively, it will determine how we handle different situations.
Our mindset determines how we act, how we treat others (especially ourself), and ultimately how we are as riders and horse owners. All of us as riders and as horse people have come to a point in our careers where our minds have gotten the best of us. This could of been a simple bad day, a ride that just nearly shaved 3 years off your life, or for some the only thing we can do is keep remind ourselves just how much we just love horses this month. Regardless, we've all been there at some point in time! These fears, frustrations, flaws, and failure moments really can take a number on our mind. We get stuck dwelling on these feelings (that are all very valid I might add) but forget to give ourselves permission to make mistakes, learn form the experience, and most importantly.. allow ourselves to move on. Its up to us as riders and horse people on how we cope with these moments. Just like our hip, heels, eyes and legs we need to develop our mental skills so were better prepared for next time.
So do we choose to let our minds dwell on these moments? Or do we decide to allow our minds to grow from these experiences?
We learn and grow when we make mistakes and when we push ourselves out of our comfort zone. We need to remember that we can do anything we put our mind to. I'm going to end this post with a few reminders for ourselves. This week lets try to add one positive reminder and see if we can GROW!
Lets start with giving ourself permission to make a mistake. And maybe with giving permission to make a mistake we also give ourself permission to mope. Now again, we cant just dwell and mope forever as we'll never grow that way. But those feelings we feel are valid and its okay to give yourself a few minutes. Put a timer on, mope away to your hearts content, then finally once the timer goes off say "okay... lets move on".
Next lets try to remind ourselves and say out loud "were going to have a great ride"! as powerful as our minds are its very easy to trick them as well. Everyday is a new start. Lets start off on a positive. A lot of times after our rides we reflect on what can be improved and nit pick every little detail. We hold ourselves sometimes to a astronomical standard that we forget the simple things like enjoying ourselves and relaxation through the mind and body. So lets not forget also to ask ourselves what our favorite part of our ride is. It could be something complex or maybe its just as simple as walking on the buckle. All in all, lets start to think positive and find a positive.
We're not just meant to go through life. We're meant to GROW! We achieve this by developing a sense of self-confidence and an empowering mindset. With every powerful mind is a limitless amount of possibilities. Don't let your fears, flaws, frustrations, and failures get in the way of your goals. Although that's easier said than done. Start with one small thing and the rest will follow.
Now I have a question for you. Next post were going to dive into the deep end. What are some of your fears, flaws, frustrations and failures?
