Q: What is CPV in dogs?
A: Canine parvovirus (also referred to as CPV, CPV2, or parvo) is a contagious virus mainly affecting dogs. CPV is highly contagious and is spread from dog to dog by direct or indirect contact with their f***s. Vaccines can prevent this infection, but mortality can reach 91% in untreated cases. Treatment often involves veterinary hospitalization.
Q: What are the first signs of Parvo in a dog?
A: Some of the signs of parvovirus include lethargy; loss of appetite; abdominal pain and bloating; fever or low body temperature (hypothermia); vomiting; and severe, often bloody, diarrhea. Persistent vomiting and diarrhea can cause rapid dehydration, and damage to the intestines and immune system can cause septic shock.
Symptoms of FPV vary a lot, but can include:
Vomiting.
Diarrhea (sometimes containing blood)
High temperature.
Lethargy (weakness)
Loss of appetite.
Stomach pain (hunching, growling, hiding away)
Wobbly kittens β due to brain damage.
CDV Symptoms:
Initially, infected dogs will develop watery to pus-like discharge from their eyes. They then develop fever, nasal discharge, coughing, lethargy, reduced appetite, and vomiting.
