*** AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION OR RESCUE ***

This darling "blue" senior beauty is Fiona. She arrived at SCAC on September 22 and is estimated to be 9 years old. Fiona is a calm, sweet girl who hopefully will not have to be in a shelter cage long. She has lived in a home with cats so she should be happy to have a feline sibling, as long as introductions are handled appropriately. She is currently sharing a cage with her sister Flora, so they would love to go to their forever home together. Fiona is more than ready to go home with you - spayed, microchipped, vaccinated appropriate to age, and negative for Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV) and Feline Leukemia Virus (FeLV).

RESCUES: please contact Sangamon County Animal Control & Adoption Center for more information about Fiona and how to become an approved rescue partner if you are not already. Thank you. 😽

*** AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION OR RESCUE ***

Flora is a sweet calico beauty with incredibly soft fur and lovely whiskers, approximately 4 years old. She arrived at SCAC on September 22 and tested positive for Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV). You can read more about FIV below, but the bullet points are that FIV affects the immune system, only felines can be infected - primarily through bite wounds, and FIV+ cats can live normal life spans and can safely share a home with FIV negative cats. Ask Meow Mobile, SCAC, or your veterinarian for more info. Flora has shared a home with other cats, so she should be happy to have a feline sibling as long as introductions are handled appropriately. She is currently sharing a cage with her sister Fiona, so they would love to go to their forever home together. Flora is ready to go home with you - spayed, microchipped, vaccinated appropriate to age, and negative for Feline Leukemia Virus (FeLV).

SPECIAL NEEDS: Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV). In infected cats, FIV attacks the immune system, leaving the cat vulnerable to other infections. Though there is no cure for FIV, recent studies suggest that cats with FIV commonly live normal life spans. FIV is a highly species-specific virus that infects only felines. The primary mode of transmission for FIV is through bite wounds from an infected cat. Casual, non-aggressive contact, such as sharing water bowls or mutual grooming, does not appear to be an efficient route of spreading the virus. As a result, CATS IN HOUSEHOLDS WITH STABLE SOCIAL STRUCTURES WHERE HOUSEMATES DO NOT FIGHT ARE AT LITTLE RISK OF ACQUIRING FIV INFECTIONS.

RESCUES: please contact Sangamon County Animal Control & Adoption Center for more information about Flora and how to become an approved rescue partner if you are not already. Thank you. 😽

🌡️ WHEN IT FEELS LIKE 95°F OUTSIDE… IT FEELS HOTTER FOR YOUR PETS! 🐾

⚠️ HEAT CAN BE DANGEROUS FOR DOGS & CATS
Even if they love the outdoors, pets are more sensitive to heat than humans.

✅ Limit outdoor time during peak heat.
✅ Provide shade and fresh water at all times.
✅ Walk pets early morning or late evening when it’s cooler.
✅ Never leave pets in a parked car — even for a few minutes.

💙 If it feels too hot for you, it’s even hotter for them!

Keep them safe. Keep them cool.

VERY SPECIAL ADOPTION: Rhea is a lovely, friendly, & fun tabby with white kitten, approximately 5 months old. She arrived on June 5 with her FIV positive mother Wren, and Rhea is currently testing positive herself. Kittens from an FIV positive mom can inaccurately test positive until 6 months of age. So Rhea will need to be retested at 6 months to receive an accurate result. Even if Rhea really has FIV, we know that FIV only infects cats, is much harder to spread to other cats than previously believed, and Rhea can enjoy a normal life span even with FIV. We are thrilled to report that Rhea is in her forever home tonight! Thank you for adopting a (possibly) special needs kitty from SCAC! Please send us updates. 😽

9/11/2025 Update: Transferred to St Sophia's Forgotten Felines in Wheaton, IL. Thank you! 😽

Hello darlings! I am Wren. I am a high white calico beauty, approximately 3 years old. I arrived here on June 5 with five babies. I have been a fabulous mother, but my kittens are all old enough to be away from me now, and it's time for me to be the baby - YOUR baby! I do need to let you know that I have tested positive for Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV). You can read more about FIV here: https://www.petmd.com/cat/conditions/infectious-parasitic/fiv-cats, but the short story is that I can live a normal life span with FIV, and it is much harder for me to pass it to an FIV negative cat than was previously believed. I am ready to go home with you - spayed, microchipped, and vaccinated. I am negative for Feline Leukemia Virus (FeLV).

VERY SPECIAL ADOPTION: Belinda is a talkative tabby beauty, approximately 2 years old, who arrived as a stray on June 16. She is a social, friendly kitty, with much of importance to discuss, but she is not in favor of the company of other felines. Belinda unfortunately tested positive for FIV. Key facts: FIV only infects cats, is much harder to spread to other cats than previously believed, and Belinda can enjoy a normal life span even with FIV. We are thrilled to report that Belinda is in her forever home tonight! Thank you for adopting a special needs kitty from SCAC! Please send us updates. 😽

VERY SPECIAL ADOPTION ON INTERNATIONAL CAT DAY: Sunkissed is a rare orange tabby female, now around 20 months old, who arrived as a stray way back on December 28. She came in with skin allergies that became quite severe at the shelter, so she was thankfully moved to a wonderful foster home through SCAC in February. Her foster mom is an experienced cat person who worked tirelessly to solve the mystery of Sunkissed's allergies, and in the process fell head over heels in love with this sweet kitty. Today Sunkissed officially became the best foster fail ever!!! We could not possibly be more thrilled!!! Thank you for fostering & adopting from SCAC! We expect regular updates! 😽

VERY SPECIAL ADOPTION ON INTERNATIONAL CAT DAY: Prazole, aka Prince, is an amazingly sweet boy, around 1 year old, who arrived as an owner-surrender on May 12 and tested positive for FIV. We are over the moon thrilled to report that tonight Prince is in his true forever home! Thank you for adopting a special needs kitty from SCAC! Please send us updates. 😽
