Its ***yfriday and Gloria, which is a sweet juvenile evening bat, came in this spring just a couple of weeks old. While others are enjoying going back to school, Gloria will be taking her last test to graduate from Bat World Cross Timbers academy.🦇 🎓 Flight test is our final test here at the academy and we want to wish Gloria the best of luck!! As Maverick says "Trust your instincts. Don't think, just do!"✈️

It's that time of year when baby bats are learning to fly. Bats are highly curious and have an intelligence level equivalent to that of dolphins. This can get young, curious bats into lots of trouble when they try to explore places they shouldn't (like this little one, who was lost inside a warehouse). If you find a bat trapped indoors, or anywhere else they should not be, please contact us! We have rescuers around the world and will do our best to help: 940-325-3404.

Remember, without bats our planet would be in trouble. Bats in the U.S alone eat enough pests to save more than $3 billion per year in crop damage and pesticide costs. Without them, our produce prices would skyrocket. Plus, we would be forced to use more pesticides, which poisons wildlife as well as us. 🫨

These tiny, magnificent animals can live 20 years or more, yet they are disappearing faster than we can count. It's critical to save every single bat that needs help - please spread the word! 💚🦇💚

We all have experienced the panic of uncertainty when we lose power. Please donate if you can. Sharing also gives Bat World MidCities a chance to continue thier hard work caring for our Texas bats.

Help! Here at Bat World MidCities we are working without power. While this outage is temporary, and we are not at risk of losing valuable food or medicines (as long as the fridge and freezer are not opened), it's difficult to feed bats, clean enclosures, and treat wounds by the light of a small camp lantern....plus, it's summer in north Texas, so it's 🔥 here with forecast highs in excess of 100°. We're not looking for a giant generator, but a small emergency power supply to run a lamp and a fan, and keep the cell phone charged, would be a huge help. We estimate that a suitable unit will cost $800 to $1,000. We would be most grateful for your help!

Indigo Montoya was going to explain what happen to him but there was too much, so he had to sum it up. :-)
Having been found serverly dehydrated on the side of a brick home Indigo Montoya required assistance. Jay who did an excellent job containing Indigo swiftly transported to Bat World Cross Timbers.
Indigo unfortunately has severe damage to both wings due to wing wasting and will be in care until he is fully healed.

In Loving Memory of Denise Tomlinson.

Denise was an avid bat rehabilitator and biologist. She has bravely battled a brain tumor for the last three years.

Denise came to Bat World Sanctuary in the late 90s to volunteer for a week. She and our founder, Amanda Lollar, became immediate friends, and that friendship lasted over two decades. After volunteering, she and Amanda created Bat World Bootcamp, a week-long workshop on the rehabilitation of insectivorous bats. Denise had excellent organizational skills. Thanks to her, the workshop was a huge success and soon attracted wildlife care professionals from around the world. Denise lived in Florida, and every summer she would drive over 20 hours to Texas to stay at Bat World to help instruct. She loved red bats most of all - her nickname for them was "The Beautifuls". Denise had a magical connection with red bats. Even the most severe cases, that were not expected to live, would thrive in her care. Denise actively contributed to the AZA husbandry guidelines and was the former co-chair of the Florida Bat Working Group. She presented at professional and scientific symposiums and instructed workshops, including multiple intensive week-long workshops relative to the rehabilitation, husbandry, and captive care of insectivorous bats and frugivorous bats. She also authored various articles and chapters relative to bat husbandry and captive care. In 2003, Denise appeared on the David Letterman show with Bat World Sanctuary. Rest in Peace, beautiful Denise. May you fly with the wings of the bats that you loved so very much. 💔🦇

As a wildlife rehabilitator, I strive to teach the public about the importance of respecting wildlife's space and appreciating them from a distance in their natural environment.

However, sometimes we need to step in and help. Thanks to Kimberly for having the intuition that something wasn't right. Mr. Count Benedict will have a fighting chance.

Imagine the anxiety these young bats feel trying to figure out life becoming lost, hungry, hot and stressed. All these factors unfortunately make bats severely dehydrated and need care immediately. In these cases we need to safely and carefully step in and help!

Bats are essential no matter your thoughts about them. The more we know, the better our world will be.

Hey, peeps!

Are you looking for a way to help bats, but are unable to transport or provide direct care? Are you available for at least one 4-hour shift per week, with access to reliable cell phone and internet service? Do you want to do something that really makes a difference? Then we are looking for you!

Bat World Sanctuary and Bat World MidCities are piloting a new volunteer opportunity for Transport Coordinators. We envision this as a multi-person role, with shifts providing coverage from 9 AM - 9 PM Central time, seven days a week.

Transport coordinators will receive requests for transport assistance from bat rehabilitators. The transport coordinator will contact the individual who found the bat, letting them know that they are working on securing transport for the bat, and that they will notify the finder once transport has been secured. The coordinator will then use the Bat World transport map, as well as volunteer contact lists supplied by the participating rehabilitators and other resources to find a transporter. Once transport is secured, both the finder and the rehabilitator are notified.

Volunteer Transport Coordinators will be a critical part of our bat rescue teams, freeing up the rehabilitators to care for orphaned and injured bats while assisting finders in getting the bats the help they need.

Sweet Barney and Fred two Eastern Red pups came in severely dehydrated and emaciated after floating around on a FB post for 18 hours. Taking over 24 hours for them to be in the right care, despite all my efforts, it was too late for Barney. Orphaned or misplaced pups need immediate assistance, not left floating on a Facebook post!!!!!!

I'm a day late for ToesieTuesday but Major doesn't care!😍

Please remember- never handle bats bare handed. I am trained and vaccinated to handle wildlife, and sometimes forego gloves in order to get better tactile sensitivity when handling our tiny patients. If you find a bat in need of help, please use gloves or a towel to contain them in a box with a secure lid so they can be transported to your nearest bat rescuer.

Major, an Eastern Red pup, was found lying on the ground, almost being stepped on. A thoughtful woman quickly realized he wasn't just mud or dirt and safely boxed him up (without touching him barehanded), posting on a local FB group. Thanks to a caring friend who reached out to JW Bats, Major will have a chance to fight for survival. During pup season, it's crucial that these young animals receive help promptly. As your local wildlife rehabilitator in Springtown and surrounding areas, please share my contact information to ensure help is always within reach.

It's baby bat season!! Please see below for what to do if you find a bat in need of help, and how to find a bat rehabber near you. Remember, never handle any wild animal barehanded or attempt to care for it yourself! Wildlife rehabilitators are licensed, trained, and vaccinated in order to provide the specialized care that wild animals need.

Baby bat season is officially here, and that means more people will be finding bats that are in need of assistance. May to August are our busiest months, and we have already revived hundreds of calls coming in from all across the country from people seeking help this season.

Do you know what to do if you find a grounded bat? Instructions are below as well as on a post pinned at the top of our Facebook- but let's take a second to review. 🦇

Step 1- CONTAINMENT! If the bat is on or near the ground, use puncture proof gloves or a cloth to place the bat into a sturdy cardboard box with a lid. Add a cloth, a shallow dish of water, and put the box indoors, somewhere safe and quite. Do NOT attempt to feed or handle the bat. Both put the animal, and you, at risk!

Step 2- FINDING HELP! Use one of the bat rescuer resources listed below to find your nearest bat rehabilitator. Be sure to leave messages with any rescuers within 100 miles. If you cannot find local help, or you receive no response within 6 hours, call us!

Step 3- TRANSPORT! Wildlife rehabilitators volunteer their own time and money to save lives. If you are able, please offer to transport the bat to the rescuer, and consider making a donation. If you cannot transport, please inform the rescuer as soon as possible so that they can work on transport. If they cannot work something out, please call us so we can assist.

Little Isaiah the juvenile evening bat skipped out of flight academy before graduation. Often you will find juvenile bats on the ground trying to figure out what thier wings are for. Although they are not injured or sick they still need professional care until they figure it out. As always it is essential to contact your local wildlife rehabilitator immediately. We are rooting for you Isaiah!👨‍🎓✈️

JW Bats had a great time sharing about Pollination and Bats at Carrollton Texas Parks & Recreation despite the storms today. Bats play an essential role in pollination and pest control. There are over 500 flowering plant species that rely on bats as either their major or exclusive pollinator and Bats save agricultural 1.4 billion dollars in pesticide use annually. Thank you again for having me.

A good Samaritan found Lantana and Dusky on the ground Sunday evening. Becoming extremely tired from carrying Dusky around all night. Lantana thought it be best to have a little rest. Unfortunately, her resting spot was already occupied by the Samaritans dogs. No harm came to them thanks to the good Samaritans quick actions. Mama and pup were safely contained and transported to JW Bats where they will stay until Dusky is old enough to be released.

Pup season is upon us! If you find an injured or orphaned pup please find a rehabilitator right away. We are just a phone call away!

Yesterday, 17 bats arrived at Bat World MidCities...mother red bats with babies, an adult evening bat, and orphaned babies. We're getting more calls today as people continue cleaning up from the storms and try to prepare for the next round. Please remember to never handle any wild animal barehanded or attempt to care for it yourself. Contact a qualified rehabilitator right away and make arrangements to get the animal to them as soon as possible. If you can help with transport, that would be most appreciated as it allows us to focus on caring for them. You can find a local rescue at https://batworld.org/local-rescue/.
