Happy National Golden Retriever Day from ABW Goldens! Today we celebrate this amazing dedicated breed. They are so smart, always willing to work, please, and they absolutely LOVE to cuddle!!! Our Gunner, Whisky, and Oakley love to do their jobs as bird dogs when the seasons come around but on their off time they spend their day sunbathing, playing on the farm, and getting spoiled rotten. Life truly is golden 💕

ABW Goldens cares about producing quality AKC golden retrievers. We love our golden retrievers first and foremost. They are a major part of our family! Our personal goldens are used for field work. We breed towards companions and working dogs. We wait until a female is 2 years of age and has the appropriate genetic and OFA testing completed before we breed and then skip every other heat cycle to promote healthier puppies and healthy moms. We have had all healthy puppies that have gone to great homes. They have become companions, field retrievers, and service dogs. We work on basic fundamentals with our puppies performing early neurological stimulation and commands such as sit, down, go potty and crate training. Pictures from Whisky's trip to the lake. She was on it with spotting and watching the ducks. Had to keep telling her no birds 🤣 she sure love playing fetch and having fun!

Took Whisky to the lake today to introduce her to the dock. She loves regular land and water retrieves but has never jumped from a dock before. Today was a great first day for her! We'll go back tomorrow and get some more practice in 💕

Our golden gaggle had a great first morning back at work! 16 birds for a 2.5 hour morning hunt. Everyone took turns with their retrieves and they were exhausted by the time we wrapped up. They will sleep well tonight!

Everyday is National Dog Day when you have these awesome goldens to spend your day with! Gunner, Whisky, and Oakley are enjoying the last days of summer before they go back to work when our first bird season opens Sept 1st. Whisky will be competing in her first dock diving competition on the 17th. Oakley had her ultrasound to see if the AI to Gunner took and there were no signs so we will be breeding both girls back to Gunner on their next cycle towards the end of the year for early 2023 litters. Happy Independence Day from ABW Goldens! We did individual photos today since both Oakley and Whisky are in heat and they are being kept separate for now. We are pairing Gunner to Oakley for her first litter!

Happy 8th (shhh no one tell him) birthday to our bestest boy Gunner!! He is the perfect golden in our eyes. The perfect combination of loving teddy bear and driven working dog 💕 We sure got lucky when we were blessed with him! Happy birthday sweet boy!!!

On Memorial Day, we honor all of our brave soldiers, sailors, airmen and women, Marines, and every 2 and 4 legged member of our Armed Forces who made the ultimate sacrifice.

We send our gratitude today and every day to all who have served, and send a prayer to the families and friends of our fallen heroes. 🇺🇸

We absolutely love being able to stay in touch with our pups as they live out their awesome lives in their furever homes! It's even better that some siblings stay close enough to have play dates! Our Whisky x Gunner babies have gone off to their new homes and the farm once again becomes oddly silent. The time spent with these babies is always too short for us but we are blessed with the happiness we have provided to others through our puppies. Bourbon is now known as Basil and went to an amazing couple where she has a new labrador brother to play with and will eventually become a bird dog💕 Trigger and Barley are now called Rocky and Sky and are heading up to Oregon to join their older brother Thor from last year's litter💕

Our babies will be 5 weeks old on Sunday! Time is going too fast!! They love playing, napping, cuddle times and of course meal times! They are beginning the basics of potty training and learning to go on the fake grass. These little piggies are weighing in at 7 pounds! We still have a girl contract available! We start outdoor exposure this weekend!

Rules For Owning a Gun Dog

1. Spend time with them each day. You are their everything.

2. Don’t hide your excitement, let them see the kid in you.

3. Your expectations of a gun dog are high but their expectations of an owner are higher.

4. Don’t sleep on it take them to the vet.

5. Go hunting with them at least one time just the two of you.

6. Tell your new friends about your old dogs.

7. Their falses aren’t the only ones in the field.

8. Judge your shooting/Hunting friends by how they treat their dogs.

9. Always stop to pet them.

10. Stop walking, sit down you will see how much they love you. Enjoy it.

11. Treat puppies like puppies and treat your 12 year old like he/She still is one.

12. Know when to retire them and give them everything they want. They gave you everything they had.

13. Have patience when they are hard of hearing

14. Show your boys that there’s reasons to be gentle in this world. Gun dogs are just one of them.

15. You helped them down the stairs when they was young now help them up them when they are old .

16. Take the picture every single time. It’s worth it.

17. Enjoy their determination even when it’s not after a bird.

18. When it’s time to say goodbye don’t leave their side. Hold them. They know what’s happening and they are happy you are with them.

19. Remember them, visit the places that made you both so happy. Think about them while you stop walking and sit down with her daughter on an October afternoon.

20. Understand that you can not fill the hole they left in your heart but remember them and they will be with you every step of the way.

We like to introduce everything we can while they are puppys. We leave this crate in the puppy area and they love to sleep in it. This will make training your pup to sleep in a crate so much easier.

The babies had their dewclaw removal today and a checkup from the vet. Vet said they are looking just fine and the techs swooned over the little nuggets. As we waited for them to have their procedure done we went to the river to distract Whisky for a bit and get her some exercise. I think the water dog enjoyed herself🤣

Babies are 7 weeks old today. One more week to go! Rain was forecasted for this afternoon/evening so they were out playing for a bit before having to come inside. Sorry for the lack of lawn, Oakley loves to do our backyard landscaping 🤣
