This is wild.

This tadpole was deposited into a bromeliad and I removed it from the parents on May 30th 2024. It turned out to be a "forever tad" which means it wasn't developing. It was still thriving so I let it sit over the past 7 and a half months and it's exiting the water today. I'll be interested to see if it'll remain healthy.

I was asked the other day, "How do you keep your tadpoles" I thought I'd share this here since many Dart frog keepers turn into dart frog breeders.

The first picture is of my single tadpole set up, they are in 16 oz cups that receive 75% water changes weekly and they are fed on the same day. The success rate in these cups are 90-95%. Most Dendrobates are raised this way.

The second image is a communal set up. This set up gets fed 2x a week with a 25% weekly water change. These set ups have a bubbler and filter as well to assist with water quality. Success rate is 90-95% for Epipedobates and Phyllobates. 70% for Dendrobates.

Some overproducing Dendrobates do get raised this way, which often leads to cannibalism leading to a lower success rate. Unfortunately, I do not have the capability to raise all Dendrobates separately, so this is a better option for me than culling eggs.

All tadpoles have indian almond leaves in their water for added tannins and java moss to snack on and hide in.

They eat Repashy soilent green primarily with some form of protein once a month. (Brine shrimp eggs, fish flakes, or bloodworms)

All water changes are done with R/O water.

There are numerous ways to raise tadpoles though. If you see other information that doesn't make it wrong. This is simply what works for me.

This is a rare sight because my Ranitomeya enclosures are always so busy with plants they tend to lay eggs somewhere more secretive. Say HI to the newest clutch of Ranitomeya benedicta "shucushuyacu" babies!

Fruit Fly PSA!

If you are experiencing your fruit fly cultures having less or no production during the winter cover half of the air vents on your lids. That will preserve moisture. You can also spray the culture with R/O or spring water to add moisture to the culture.

Don't forget I have my own mix for fruit fly media free to use but I can ship media and kits during winter months as well!

Exiting news as I was doing my egg check this morning, a highly requested locality has just started laying eggs! Dendrobates tinctorius "Vanessa"

The first clutch went bad which is totally normal but, with luck, some Vanessa juveniles may become available as early as the summer!

Unfortunately I have to announce that I will not be attending any shows in October or November due to lack of stock. I pride myself on only presenting animals that I produce myself and I'm simply out of stock.

I will be attending both the Springfield MO and Bridgton MO Show me reptile show events in December.
