Forth of July is fast approaching. I really should have posted this about a week ago, but late is better than never. Here’s a quick guide to counter conditioning for fear of fireworks. (Quick simple guide, this does not explain everything) I also do recommend speaking to your vet if your dog has fear of fireworks. Note: This is a rough guide. Please work with a professional. Happy 4th! 🇺🇸 🐶

Last night Ruby and I went to the rink and she had so much fun watching all my friends play hockey.
If you want your best friend to enjoy the things you do, you need to do everything to make it a positive experience for them from the start.

Ruby has been chasing hockey pucks around and helping me practice since she was only 12 weeks old. She loves the game and knows exactly what the word “hockey” means.

Last night I brought a ton of different types of treats and even a chew just incase. Always be prepared. We watched the entire game in the stands. She layed down or sat and watched the game for the most part. Except for getting up to lick my face. I want her to be comfortable with all the sounds of the sticks and the puck slamming against the boards, people cheering etc.

I made sure to pay close attention to her body language the entire time. When I would cheer for my friends she seemed a little weirded out by that. Not startled but weirded out I guess you could say. So I held a treat in my hand so I would be prepared to treat her each time I cheered for a friend. She was able to go out onto the ice and she seemed to really enjoy it.

Once a month I’m going to take her back as long as things keep going the way they are. I want her to be able to stay calm and enjoy hockey with mom.

We are on our way 🏒
