"Free" feeding your dogs at home?
Empty dog food bowls around the house?

Dogs enjoy working for their food and will typically eat to their fill at each feeding. A feeding schedule will maintain an ideal weight and help with avoiding any eliminations in the home.
After eating, cleaning the bowl and placing somewhere away from the dog will avoid territoriality and resource guarding.

Remember to "Give Five" for your dog. Give a five second pause before responding to your dog's behavior after a command. This allows the dog to process and follow through with your command.

"What is one of the most difficult behaviors to train?"

I have experienced the most difficulty before with teaching down and it can be even more difficult for the small dogs.

Down is a very submissive position for a dog and more challenging for small dogs due to lack of confidence around the big world.
If you are experiencing difficulty with the down behavior with your dog, big or small, try establishing a comfortable and safe environment to practice the down like on a rug or dog bed before networking to the harder surfaces like wood or concrete.
