Let’s dive a little deeper into TASER’s Top Paw Dog Training! Here I answer some frequently asked questions that I receive on a routine basis.

Yesterday, I featured some of the trainees on our Instagram story! It was a hot one yesterday, but everyone was a trooper. Extremely happy with everyone’s progress!
1.) Loaded up the shepherds and headed to St. Charles to work in the arena.
2.) Met with Charlie and practiced recalls with and without dog distraction. We also practiced leash coordination.
3.) Joey showed off his place skills after only a week. We also introduced leash structure, and evaluated his body behavior against another dog.
4.) Bennett was exposed to noises that are rather scary to him. By the end of the lesson, mom, dad, and the cheese were most important.
5.) Ended the night with Zoey! Worked her recall and leave it with a dog present. By the end of the lesson, she didn’t care about the other dog across the street or even 20 feet from her.
✰ TOP PAW BREAKTHROUGH ✰
When I first met with Zoey and her family in November, I was told she had major reactivity issues towards vehicles, bikes, people, etc. After focusing controlled obedience inside, we started transitioning outside. Over the past month, we’ve started to introduce long line distance recalls. Shown here is the line out of hand, Amazon vehicle present, and Zoey recalling immediately. This is what makes it all worth it.
✰ RECALL ✰
Let’s talk recall. Having reliable recall training is one of the most important basic obedience skills. It’s simple: Safety. Having the ability to call your dog so you can prevent a number of dangerous and life-threatening situations. Being hit by a car, running away, roaming off-trail, approaching an aggressive dog, interacting with wildlife, and engaging in dog fights at the dog park are just a few situations solid recall can help you avoid overall.

Natty’s dad sent me this after our previous lesson.
This is what training is all about. The handler and dog relationship is what makes or breaks training. Consistent engagement makes dogs eager to learn. Happy I get to work with this girl and her family!
socializing your puppy doesn’t mean introducing them to other puppies/dogs. socializing is all about exposing your new pup to different places, people, sounds, sights, and different textures. nail trims and/or dremmeling is a common stressful situation at the vet clinic/groomer.
i’ve worked desensitization every week with taser since she was 10 weeks, when i brought her home, for her to realize that this isn’t something to be afraid of. yesterday, was a prime example of consistency with how she reacted to the situation. although still stressful, ears turned way back, she laid down the whole time until finished. we ended with a jackpot of rewards for being the best girl! dog mom win😌
