Diesel tracks this buck for over a mile and a half in open terrain and tough conditions.

Diesel passed her UBT 2 test today!! Keep us in mind this hunting season!!

Missouri Blood Trackers Association put on an amazing event this weekend and brought in a lot of judges to be able to test a lot of dogs. Thank you to the team who put it together.

Thank you Sublime Tracking for being an amazing mentor in our training. Having someone help with tracks and training has accelerated our progression immensely.

"It's been hard to find a reason to smile the last few years but today your dog gave me a reason too"
This is the reason we track for hunters. This man was a hunting guide in Ukraine on his 2000acre mountain property he worked so hard to buy. While on a fishing trip out of country with his family the war breaks out and he loses everything. Being an amazing hunter he was able to get this guy on high pressured public land.

Originally thinking this was a shoulder shot deer with little blood to track we had low hopes of recovery. Being new to this I made the mistake of going too early in the morning. Everything had frost on it trapping the scent making it impossible for Diesel to track. She winded multiple dead animals. Once the frost was gone we restarted her and she took a line amazingly for the first time that day. We passed through a few bedding areas that took a couple restarts but shortly after that we found this 11 point monster of a buck!

Coyotes chased this guy for a while and did get the back legs. But the hunter was still able to keep the rest of the meat.

Deer's traveled distance was around 650 yards from the hit site and was double lung shot. Almost no blood to track because the chest cavity filled.

Hunter has a tracking dog and uses her on every shot he takes. First deer of the season excited to have deer meat again.

The hunter shot this buck in the morning and when tracking it bumped him what we believe to be twice. That's when they decided to have us come out. We decided to wait 24 hrs from the shot time after hearing the shot was further back.

The hunters tracked roughly 600 yards.
I put diesel at the hit site and she worked her way to their last blood. From there she wouldn't take to a line very confidently but through me knowing how to handle my dog we advanced the track another 820 yards to a property line where we didn't have permission
At which point we ended the track but I told the hunter it was worth grid searching forward if he got permission.

Today the hunter got permission and found his deer 10ft from where we stopped..... 10 ft!!!!!!....... Behind a huge tree.

Does this count as a recovery for my dog? Lol

We got a call yesterday that the rain had washed the blood away and the hunter could not continue the track.
We came out 11hrs after the hit and jumped the buck around 350 yards from the hit site.
We really debated about coming out this morning because we were unsure of the shot location knowing that jumping one 11 hrs later and it running off strong is not a good sign
But after hearing the deer's reaction to the hit and reading my dogs behavior I was convinced it was worth the time to go back out. We are very happy we did. This deer was dead for less than 4hrs, 24hrs after the shot.

Congratulations to the hunter!!

One lung liver gut alive for almost 24hrs.

After a few non-recoveries due to property lines or non fatal shots, we were excited when a hunter we know offered a guaranteed win. We used this chance to let the wife get some practice behind Diesel. Thanks again to the hunter for allowing us to come track his deer. 💪

Understanding what to do after the shot is just as important as the shot if you want to recover your deer. Avoid grid searching with your buddies

Hunter called after making a far back shot. Gut liver one lung. Hunter did not see blood for first 40 yards backed out and called for advice. We waited 10 hours in 85° weather. Diesel took us 160 yards straight to the deer. No blood for the entire track. Trained dogs do not need blood to recover your deer. The meat was still good! Remember to back out and call before searching. Bumping a deer only makes it a lot harder for us. Thanks to the wife and cousin for carrying some of my gear on the steep terrain.

First recovery of the year and it on our anniversary. Lol
The hunter was confident in his shot but with lack of blood at his hit site and warm temperatures wanted a dog to make sure. Shot was double lung but a little high so most of the blood was in the chest cavity. The hunter handled the track perfectly by calling and backing out before searching around. Diesel took one wrong turn I could tell she was "searching" so I reset her at last known blood. She took a new route and we quickly found the deer in a very thick area. Remember if the hit site does not look good back out and call a tracker. Even if it is just for advice, we are here to help.

UPDATE: Neighbors spotted the buck alive on 9.25.23. That's 9 days after the shot was made.

Today was our first track for the public. We went over 2 miles. Lost blood at 1.3 miles. I believe when I stopped Diesel she was still on the deer. Restarted her at last blood just to see. She did a big circle around the area and was disinterested in the restart then continuing down the first track. Confirming to me she was on it the first time. The hunter decided to call the track believing the deer is probably alive. I absolutely loved this track even if it didn't end in a recovery. Confirming my dog went at least 1.3 miles on the correct track shows our hard work in training is working.

These blind tracks from Sublime Tracking have really helped with my confidence in Diesel. She is working through big sections of no blood and self correcting a lot faster now. Awesome to see on a track in the middle of the day in 80° weather. The track was around 15hrs old. Line discipline is the next big one on the list to work on. But we improve every time we go out.

Last practice track of the season??? Maybe, maybe not?? Had a short line laid by another tracker Tj. She blew her first corner, she looked back several times. At this point we know she’s telling me she’s off. Brought her back to the line and then smoked the rest.
