This is Ozzy”s story.
We have about two weeks to find him a new home before I will have to surrender him to the humane society.
To simply state that Ozzy is a reactive dog would do him injustice. I think it’s important to understand his full story. Ozzy was adopted from ARFFMO in 2019 as a puppy. He was a happy dog and confident one until he was attacked by another dog in our home by a family member”s dog. We did not know at the time their dog was reactive or even what that meant. Fast forward 2 weeks later ozzy bumped into our older dog Tucker on the way outside, Tucker let out a growl and a fight broke out. Several months later something similar happened. Ozzy could no longer be around other dogs at the puppy daycare as they said he seemed uneasy. He would bark at other dogs on the leash. We went to one trainer who was not very helpful. Then enrolled him in Got Your Six for the month boot camp in Jeff City. Ozzy did really well in the program and for a couple years living with our current dog we used the techniques we learned. Mostly have just avoided other dogs all together with the exception of our current dog.
Our current dog has gone deaf and is becoming blind. Due to these changes it has made him an anxious dog. Aside from this he is in excellent health. Since then, we have had several incidents between the dogs. It mostly involves Ozzy bumping into Tucker and Tucker using an aggressive growl (much like that of the dog who attacked ozzy) and a fight breaks out. Tucker can not monitor the sounds he makes anymore. This has increased in the last 9 months. So much so we have removed our older dog twice (sent to my mothers) and now we have two weeks to rehome ozzy. My mother is in her 80s with 2 dogs of her own.
Right now ozzy is at my feet without a care in the world . He is a good and happy dog when our older one is not around. He even plays more and will not play at all when our older dog is the house. He loves new people and children.
I have reached out to several rescues. I’ve been told that they don’t have room for a dog like ozzy. I’ve tried posting ozzy on my page, neighborhood app, unchained melodies, adopt a pet.com.
We have been at this since April of last year. We have a toddler and I’m extremely worried about him getting hurt in the crossfire. We keep the dogs seperated when my toddler is home and it has been incredibly difficult. The tension between the dogs has escalated recently.
We do not want to euthanize ozzy as we believe he could live a very happy life. We need a foster for ozzy or a new home.
Ozzy is a fantastic dog, he just needs a home with no other dogs where he can be himself.
If you made it to the end of my story I want to thank you. We’re up for donating to your shelter we are open to other ideas as well. We just don’t want to put our dog down.
