We Kill Her For Looking Wrong. She is the Safest Animal in Your Yard.
The security light snaps on, trapping a pale, pointed face and a bare tail in its harsh glare. The Virginia Opossum freezes in the spring grass.

We see her scruffy fur and fifty sharp teeth and immediately call animal control, assuming she is a dirty, disease-carrying threat to our families.

In reality, she is an ecological superhero. Because her exceptionally low natural body temperature (94–97°F) suppresses viral replication, she is virtually immune to rabies. Her blood contains a unique peptide that safely neutralizes the venom of native rattlesnakes and copperheads. Right now in April, this native Virginia Opossum (Didelphis virginiana, Status: Secure) is foraging overtime to nourish the tiny, developing joeys hidden safely inside her pouch.

While internet myths claim she eats thousands of ticks, her true interconnected ecological role is far broader. As the ultimate neighborhood cleanup crew, she tirelessly scavenges rotting fruit, venomous snakes, cockroaches, and disease-spreading rodents, preventing decay and pest outbreaks across our suburban food webs.

You can protect this gentle, misunderstood marsupial. Keep your dogs inside at night, drive carefully after dusk, and if you see her on your porch, simply let her pass.

She doesn't carry the diseases we fear; she eats the pests we hate. Leave her the yard.

🚨 ALL ABOARD— Osbourne’s Critical Fight for Life Has Begun 🚨
⚠️ Warning: Graphic images in comments.⚠️

Last night, we told you about the devastating condition Osbourne arrived in. Tied outside with hose water spraying on him for hours, unable to escape, freezing, starving, and deteriorating. He was dying. And without immediate intervention, he would not have made it through the night.

💥 Intake Stats:
🩸 Hematocrit: 8 (critical anemia)
🧬 Albumin: 1.3 (severe protein loss)
🌡️ Hypothermic
🍽️ Starved
🧠 Too weak to lift his head
🩹 Deep wounds, some necrotic
💪 Severe muscle wasting

He was unresponsive. His body was shutting down.

But the ER team didn’t hesitate. They wrapped him in heating pads, used hair dryers to warm his body, and got to work.

💉 Plasma flowing. Blood flowing. 🧪 An NG tube placed to drain fluid from his stomach and deliver nutrients. 💊 Fentanyl for pain. IV antibiotics. Fluids. 🩹 His wounds are being treated at the surface level for now—he’s too weak for surgery, but many will require it once he stabilizes.

💔 And through it all, he lays his head in their laps and lets them work. He knows. He knows we’re trying to save him.

🙏 Special thanks to Rebecca, his overnight care nurse, who went above and beyond to keep him warm, comfortable, and monitored—and kept us updated every step of the way. Her compassion and vigilance gave Osbourne a fighting chance.

⚠️ The next 24 hours are critical. His first night of care cost $6,500 (receipt in comments). And we are not giving up on him. Because Osbourne wants to fight.

As soon as he’s stable enough to transport, we will move him to our miracle worker Dr. Terry and her team of angels. If anyone can fix this, it’s them. We believe in Osbourne. We believe in them.

We know it’s a lot to ask. But we are drowning in 911 cases, and we will not turn our backs on a dog in critical condition. Not Osbourne. Not now.

📍If you can’t, share.
📍If you’re angry, good. Use it. Share this. Speak up.

💔 We may lose him. But if we do, it will not be because we didn’t fight for him.

🙏 To everyone who has donated, shared, commented, prayed, and rallied behind him—thank you. We are once again humbled by your compassion and your belief in second chances.

🚫 Pittie haters will be blocked immediately. We are a rescue. We save dogs here—every breed, every age, every size. If you haven’t picked up on it yet, we’re obsessed with pitties. If you’re into breed bans or keyboard crusades against square-faced sweethearts, this is not your scene. There is a bench on the sidelines for people like you.

➡️ Osbourne is on the rails now. And we’re riding this train all the way to hope. We hope to see the first signs of healing today. Real-time updates to follow.
