Our "Free Spay and Neuter Day for Pit Bulls" was such a success this past Thursday that we are doing another clinic on Thursday, January 22.

We extend our deepest gratitude to our anonymous sponsor whose generosity is making this day possible. This single act of kindness will save thousands of lives, both now and for years to come.

This is how we address the crisis in the rescue and shelter world: by going upstream and turning off the faucet.

For decades, rescues have been working tirelessly, yet the situation is worse than it has ever been. It is time to acknowledge an uncomfortable truth: what we have been doing is not working.

As the saying goes, “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.”

Shelters pleading for adopters hours before dogs are killed is a failed model. Rescues begging for last-minute fosters is a failed model. Operating in constant crisis mode may generate attention and donations, but it does not solve the problem.

Prevention does. That means spay and neuter.

Each dog at this clinic will receive 100% free of charge:

Spay or neuter surgery

Rabies vaccine

DA2PP vaccine (distemper/parvo)

Nail trim

Microchip

Cone

Trazodone (take-home calming medication)

Meloxicam (take-home pain medication)

This is real change. This is lifesaving work.

Adopt Frenchie & Madge 💕

Frenchie and Madgee are a sweet mother–daughter duo who can be adopted together or separately. These two are easygoing, low-maintenance pups who love cozy naps, lots of affection, and leisurely walks.

They are friendly with other dogs and would do well in either an apartment or a house. Calm, adaptable, and content, they are the kind of companions who fit easily into everyday life. (No cats, please.)

Frenchie is approximately 7–8 years old, and Madge is around 3–4 years old.

Please share and help these lovely girls find their forever home(s)! 🐾

This week has been incredibly busy.

In addition to holding one of our "Free Spay and Neuter Days for Pit Bulls",  where 16 dogs were fixed,  we also began to TNR (trap, neuter, return) a feral cat colony.

Three cats were trapped. Tragically, one of them, Curtis the tuxedo cat, died as soon as anesthesia was administered. He may have suffered an acute allergic reaction to the anesthesia or had a congenital heart defect, which is common in feral cats. Because these cats are feral, they cannot receive a pre-operative health exam, and must be anesthetized while still in their traps. The veterinary team attempted to save him by administering meds to reverse the anesthesia, but Curtis' heart had already stopped.

RIP, Curtis. He is receiving a private cremation, and we will keep his ashes. Though he never had an indoor home while alive due to being feral, in death he will finally have one.

Many thanks to the incredible sponsor who is paying for the whole colony to be fixed, and bought traps and warming houses for the cats. This amazing act of generosity is saving so many lives.

Since those first three cats were trapped, even more cats have appeared at the feeding location. It seems word has gotten out about free veterinary care. We will TNR every cat to ensure no more kittens are born.

This colony has had multiple litters over the past year, with the most recent born just two months ago. Sadly, most kittens did not survive. Deceased kittens were found throughout the neighborhood, and kittens from the last litter froze to death. This is the harsh reality of life for feral cats and why spaying and neutering is so critical.

Please consider supporting and volunteering with feral cat and TNR groups. These organizations receive some of the least funding and recognition, yet they do some of the hardest and most important work in animal welfare.

Samson sends a heartfelt thank-you to the Mona Pants Foundation for their incredible generosity! They sent him a bag of dog food, three of his arthritis supplements, and two bags of treats, which is a huge help. We are beyond grateful. A million thanks! 💙

If you don’t already follow Mona Pants Foundation, please do. They host weekly auctions with all kinds of items, and every dollar raised goes directly to rescues and sanctuaries across the country.

And just a year ago yesterday, Samson left the shelter in South Carolina and began his journey north. Today, at 14 years old, Samson is loving his retirement — enjoying long snoozes, leisurely potters around the yard, and all the comfort he deserves. 🐾💤

DONE AND DUSTED! 🐾

Another successful "Free Spay and Neuter Day for Pit Bulls" is officially in the books!

We fixed 16 dogs today, which brings the program total to 198 dogs.

Going upstream and turning off the faucet is the only solution to the shelter and rescue crisis. Prevention is the solution. This is how we save millions of lives.

All of the dogs did great in surgery and went home with their responsible, loving parents with cones and medications.

Heartfelt, enormous thanks to the incredibly talented and compassionate team at Nutmeg Spay/Neuter Clinic for performing the surgeries. They are true superstars and some of the kindest people around.

HAPPENING RIGHT NOW 🐾

These dogs are being spayed and neutered this morning—saving thousands of lives now and for years to come. This is how we tackle pet overpopulation at its source.

Their responsible owners brought them in and are doing their part to ensure they never add to the problem. Many of these dogs have had litters before; today marks a healthier, safer future for them and for their communities.

Huge thanks to the incredible team at Nutmeg Spay/Neuter Clinic for performing the surgeries with such care and professionalism.

Endless gratitude to our generous sponsors who make this possible:

TOMORROW we will save thousands of lives!

Our next “Free Spay & Neuter Day for Pit Bulls” is tomorrow, Thursday, January 8th.

Heartfelt thanks to our incredible, generous, amazing sponsor: A. Lewis.

These dogs will never add to the pet overpopulation problem. They will never add to the dogs being abandoned, abused, starved, tortured, neglected and killed at shelters.

To solve the shelter/rescue crisis, we must go upstream and turn off the faucet, and that means spay and neuter.

Each dog will receive free of charge:

👉 Spay or neuter

👉 Rabies vaccine

👉 DA2PP vaccine (distemper/parvo)

👉 Microchip

👉 Cone

👉 Trazodone (take home calming med)

👉 Meloxicam (take home pain med)

Please get involved with spay/neuter wherever you live. It is the single most important thing you can do.

Subject: Please Override the Veto of the Humane Pet Shop Ordinance LR31.072 / LR32.008

Dear Members of the Board of Representatives,

I am a Stamford resident, and I am asking you to please override the Mayor’s veto of the Humane Pet Shop Ordinance LR31.072 / LR32.008.

I want Stamford to protect animals and families by ending the sale of dogs, cats, and rabbits in pet stores. Connecticut is a home rule state, and Stamford has the power to act.

Thank you,

Fifteen dogs will get the best new year ever when they get fixed one week from today on Thursday, January 8th

These 15 dogs will be spayed/neutered at our next "Free Spay & Neuter Day for Pit Bulls". This will save thousands of lives now and for years to come.

Million thanks to our amazing, generous sponsor: A. Lewis.

We cannot rescue - or adopt - our way out of the crisis. The only way to reduce the number of pit bulls dumped, abused, and killed in shelters is to go upstream and turn off the faucet, and that means spay and neuter.

Prevention must be the focus. It is the solution to this crisis.

Happy New Year!

Cricket (formerly Mia) is enjoying her first new year in her forever home.

When we rescued Cricket over the summer, she was so shut down, she had to be carried onto and off the plane, and once in her foster home, had to be caried in and out of the yard.

Cricket needed an emergency spay/abort and was treated for heartworms, as well as dewormed for intestinal parasites.

Since then, Cricket has come out of her shell and is now an active and bouncy pooch. She gets to snooze the new year away in bed!

Many thanks to her foster - now adopter - who is giving Cricket an amazing life.

Adoption Pupdate

Luna and Duke are spending their days snuggled together on the couch during the cold snap. These two adore each other and share a special bond.

Duke was adopted from us three years ago, and Luna eight years ago.

All rescue dogs deserve this.

URGENT Stamford CT Residents:

An important local ordinance that will fight puppy mills passed Stamford's 31st Board of Representatives by a whopping 35-1-1 vote! Sadly, Mayor Simmons vetoed the bill, citing concerns about a threat from the Connecticut Department of Agriculture to sue the city if this ordinance became law. A veto override vote may occur at the Monday, January 6, 2026 meeting of the new Stamford Board of Representatives.

Action needed -- email the BOR at:

You can write the following:

Please override the Mayor's veto on LR31.072 /Ordinance 1321, the Humene Pet Shop ordinance. Stamford has home rule authority to pass this. Should it be challenged in court, Humane World attorneys stand ready to assist the city in its legal defense.

 More talking points:

Ordinance 1321, which was thoroughly vetted by the prior Board, would block the puppy mill-to-pet shop pipeline in Stamford by banning the sale of dogs and cats in pet shops, protecting consumers from deceptive sales tactics, sick puppy sales, and predatory lending, and promoting humane businesses and responsible pet acquisition.

No pet shop needs to sell puppies to be profitable and no resident needs a pet shop to find the pet of their choice.

Responsible breeders never sell to pet shops.

For over a dozen years, the state has failed to take meaningful actions against cruel puppy mills, but Stamford can. It’s always the right time to stand up for animals and consumers, and enact a law that reflects the values of the community.
