Bennie is a five year old big boy with a big personality. When he was born, the bones in his front legs hadn’t fully developed; but that hasn’t stopped him from living his best life. He loves feeding time, sunning on the deck, stealing your seat, having his hair brushed and snuggling with his kiddo. Bennie is affectionate, playful, curious, and ornery; but most of all loved by his people.

What do I need to know about periodontal disease and my dog?

Periodontal disease is the most common problem affecting dogs of all age groups. Diseases that affect the gums can cause pain and infection, in addition to causing the teeth to fall out. Periodontal disease can also have a secondary effect on major organs, causing or exacerbating organ system diseases. The very best way to prevent periodontal disease is daily dental home care.

The importance of daily dental home care cannot be over-emphasized. If you are having trouble accomplishing dental home care, our veterinary health care team is ready to help.

Congratulations, Henley!

This handsome fella is the Pet of the Month for November! Yay, Henley!

Here's what Henley's mum has to say about him:

Henley - aka “ Henley Hooooo” has been a frequent flyer at Metzger's with his recent cancer diagnosis & start of chemo with his favorite gal Ashlee. Henley is a 6 yr old, 145 lb (“its all muscle”) bernese mtn dog who loves his at-home boss Zoey (a mini doxie) and his 3 cats. He is a splendid mix of goofy and smart, loves to dance, and is very fond of his stuffed moose collection. He adores the staff at Metzger's .

Here's what Ruby's mum says about her: This year marks Ruby’s first Halloween! She’s thrilled to try on the various costumes her mom bought for her. Her favorite is the grandma outfit. Even though Ruby just turned one, she has some grandma-like habits, LOL. She enjoys having dinner early and going to bed early. She also likes to watch TV shows before bedtime. We love visiting VCA; the staff there is fantastic :) We know they provide the best care for our fur babies.

Would you guys be interested in learning about different dog breeds?

We will be kicking off our "breed spotlight" series with these cuties: Schnauzers! 🐾🔦

Schnauzers are a German breed that was originally bred to be small farm dogs and vermin hunters. They come in three different sizes: miniature, standard, and giant. Despite the wide range in size, all three sizes share some awesome breed hallmarks:

- a wiry, coat of "salt and pepper" or pure black
- a square-ish frame
- an elongated head decorated with wonderfully arched eyebrows and bristly whiskers
-bright intelligence and loyalty
