Augusta Dog Adoptions (formerly Chains Hurt) was formed in 2006. We are an all volunteer, 501c3 rescue group that takes in and adopts out dogs that are transferred to our organization from local shelters and high-kill pounds throughout Virginia. Dogs are “fostered” by volunteers at their personal residences until an adoption match is made. We provide rehabilitation and veterinary care to all dogs

in our foster program prior to adoption. Augusta Dog Adoptions works closely with the Shenandoah Valley Animal Services Center, which gives us the opportunity to see firsthand where our services are most needed.

Meet Annabelle, the cutest little beagle ever!

Annabelle is an 8 year old, purebred beagle who came to us for help finding a better family match. Annabelle is sweet and loving but she is a dog who does not do well with children who are too young to respect her boundaries. She loves her people deeply and does not want to share her family or home with other dogs. Annabelle is GOOD WITH CATS, and is a fairly slow, low energy gal. She would be perfect for a quiet, mature home that is looking for an only dog to spoil!

(Annabelle is sensitive to chicken proteins so a bit of diet management will be needed.)

***A reduced adoption fee of $100 does apply to Annabelle, our seniors, and dogs with special medical or behavioral needs. ****

Augusta Dog Adoptions is a 501c3, foster-based rescue. We take applications online and schedule adoptions in Waynesboro, VA. A $175.00 adoption fee ($300 for puppies under 6 months old) helps us take care of all the dogs we rescue. All dogs are spayed/neutered, tested for heartworm and tick borne diseases (if old enough), microchipped, and vaccinated for rabies (if old enough), distemper/parvo and bordetella. They are also treated for internal and external parasites. Many dogs also receive extensive medical care such as dental work and major surgeries. THANK YOU SOOOOO MUCH....
to everyone who donated to Izzy!

She loves her brother Taco (from the same home) so much!

If you know anyone who would be able to GIVE THEM A HOME TOGETHER....PLEASE REACH OUT! It will break our hearts (and hers too) if we have to separate them! Next week, we will be raising funds for Taco's teef! They are rotten!

Last week, we took in three very sad seniors whose owners passed away and they are in dire need of medical care! Izzy is the oldest and most in need! Ear infections, constant itching, cataracts and large mammary masses are the issues that we can see! Izzy went to the vet and got much needed medications to make her more comfortable. She also got some bloodwork done so we can decide the best way to help her. In one vet visit, we spent $430 on Izzy.

Thank you, donors! YOU ARE THE BEST!

Remember Noah? Noah came to us a few months ago from our local shelter, Shenandoah Valley Animal Services Center.

He spent about 4 months there hiding under his dog bed!
Now, he's thriving in a life-saving, foster home!

Noah is a petite, plott hound mix who weighs about 35-40 pounds and is about 2 years old. He's still scared of loud noises and needs a securely fenced yard and a least one other playful dog for him to be comforted by. Noah loves playing with the other dogs in his foster home. He is crate trained and is slowly building confidence, but will need a calm and patient adopter! Noah is a special guy who deserves the best of furEVER homes! And we are ready to help him find it! Can you be the happy ending that Noah has been waiting for?

AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION!

Maple is a lucky gal! This super diva found herself in a rural shelter with more dogs than adopters! Thankfully, their shelter manager knew of our softspot for throwaway hounds and was devoted to getting Maple into our program! Likely once used as a hunting dog, her new found joys are couch cuddling and fuzzy blankets! She enjoys the company of other dogs in her foster home and even chills with the grandkids. Maple had some pretty rotten teef when she came to us but we got those all taken care of. Now, she looks like she's from LA and is ready to smile at her new furEVER family!

Maple is estimated to be 7-8 years old and weighed 53 pounds at her last vet appointment. Maple has learned so much in her foster home. She is crate trained and house trained with only the occassional accident if she is asked to wait too long. She does need to be fed separately from other dogs. That is very common for hounds and very manageable. Maple is a kind hearted soul who is ready to love you for years to come! She'll make a great addition to her new family!

***A reduced adoption fee of $100 does apply for Maple, our seniors over 8 years old, and does with special medical or behavioral needs. ***

AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION!

Meet Brenna and Blane, two of the most unique puppies around! Products of an accidental litter, their mother is a french bulldog and their dad is a coonhound. They were born on 10/22/24 and have been raised with children and other dogs! Happy, healthy, friendly and sure to stand out from the crowd at any dog park! This is your sneak peak at adopting a truly unique and precious puppy! (We have never had a mix like this and do not know how big they will grow to be. Our guess is medium but adopters should not have a weight limit in mind.)

CAN'T AFFORD TO FIX YOUR PET? WE CAN HELP!

The post pandemic crisis is the new normal. Shelters and rescues are overwhelmed and exhausted. We cannot adopt our way out of this anymore. Your choices are to spay and neuter or shelter animals will die.

Augusta Dog Adoptions is excited to announce financial assistance to spay and neuter pets in Staunton, Waynesboro, and Augusta, Co., VA! This opportunity is made possible with the collaboration of The Augusta Regional SPCA Spay/Neuter Clinic and funded by a grant from the Community Foundation by a generous, anonymous donor.

The available grant money allows us to pay $75 toward the cost of spaying or neutering and vaccinating for rabies any cat and $100 toward the cost for any dog at The Augusta Regional SPCA in Staunton, Va. The cost to pet owners is therefore reduced to $15 per cat, $50 per dog under 50 pounds and $100 per dog 50-100 pounds.

IF YOU CAN PAY THE EVERY DAY, LOW COST PRICE AT The Augusta Regional SPCA, PLEASE DO NOT ASK US FOR HELP. WE WANT TO BE ABLE TO HELP PEOPLE WHO REALLY NEED IT!!!!

Email us at [email protected] for your approval for financial assistance! (Please include your full name, address and if you are asking help for cats or dogs.) This is a popular program so give us a few days to get approvals out to everyone!

HAPPY MONDAY!
CELEBRATE OUR RECENT ADOPTIONS!

Golden Retriver puppies, Solan and Tobie were taken to one of the shelters we help because their Amish breeder couldn't sell them! Crazy, right? They came to us and we found them homes who are so excited to have them and will cherish them forever!

You know we love repeat adopters! Patches' family made it a three-peat when they chose him. He is the third dog they have adopted from ADA over the many years we have been rescuing! Wow!

Sally and Debbie also charmed their way into furEVER homes! These little cuties are sure to bring years of love and fun to their families. More from this litter are still available for adoption!

We send our biggests thanks to our fosters, donors and adopters who choose to save lives! Don't breed or buy while shelter dogs die!

TAKING APPLICATIONS NOW!

Meet Misty's litter of 10 adorable puppies!

Misty was close to giving birth when she found herself in a Va shelter! That's no place to have babies so she came to the safety of Augusta Dog Adoptions. Misty's little family was born in a safe, warm and loving foster home on November 29, 2024. They have been raised with kindness and care and are now ready to be adopted to their forEVER homes!

Misty is a mixed breed dog who weighs about 30 pounds. However, we have no idea what their father might be so we cannot tell you exactly what breed they are or how large they might grow to be. We do prefer that puppy adopters not have weight or breed requirements for that very reason. (A pic of their mother, Misty is attached for reference. Please go to our website for names of individual pups.)

We expect a COMMITMENT to LIFETIME CARE from all of our adopters. Puppies are at their formative age where the training and work you put into them, mold their behavior for the rest of their lives. Please remember that they will be an investment in your time and money for at least the next decade to come! The joy and fulfillment in adding a puppy to your life and knowing that you kept a dog from dying in the shelter system is a truly beautiful thing!

WINTER WEATHER ALERT

Winter Weather is expected all across Virginia this week. Virginia Animal Control Officers will be working hard to make sure all animals are protected against the effects of this cold weather.

Please make sure your animals are properly cared for and have a warm, dry, and safe place to be during this weather. If you can't bring your dog inside, make sure they have access to adequate shelter that protects them from the negative effects of this cold weather.

Also, remember dogs cannot be tied out when temps are below 32 degrees.

Below is a link to VA code 3.2-6500 which contains the definition of adequate shelter and space which are very important during times of winter weather.

If you suspect that an animal is not being cared or would like an animal control officer to check on an animal, Please contact your local animal control agency.
