๐๐๐๐๐๐ก๐๐ง๐ข๐ก, ๐ฉ๐ง has big news ๐ฐโผ๏ธ Mando, who went missing ๐ง๐๐๐ฅ๐ง๐๐๐ก ๐๐๐ฌ๐ฆ ago is back home safe and sound.
Mando had recently relocated to Killington, VT from hot and sunny Texas - and had likely never seen โ๏ธ snow. Unfortunately, as soon as the car door opened - he saw an opportunity to go adventure - and off he went.
With ๐ญ๐๐ฅ๐ข ๐ฆ๐๐๐๐ง๐๐ก๐๐ฆ ๐๐ก ๐ณ ๐๐๐ฌ๐ฆ, we teamed up with ๐๐๐ก๐ง๐ฅ๐๐ ๐ฉ๐๐ฅ๐ ๐ข๐ก๐ง ๐๐๐ก๐๐ก๐ ๐ฅ๐๐๐ข๐ฉ๐๐ฅ๐ฌ to get a good plan in place.
K9 Rose was able to confirm the few sightings that had come in, rule one out, and get us a direction of travel that pointed at Mando attempting to make his way back home - and did so in roughly ๐ข๐ก๐ ๐๐ข๐ข๐ง ๐ข๐ ๐ฆ๐ก๐ข๐ช!
Then today, the one phone call that mattered came in- someone had seen him at a large home - and Mandoโs people went to work. They were prepared to set up cameras and food.. but intuition kicked inโฆ they were able to spot him under a staircase and successfully captured him by ๐๏ธ hand!!

๐ MOMO IS ๐ฆ๐๐๐ AND HAS BEEN ๐ฅ๐๐จ๐ก๐๐ง๐๐ WITH HER FAMILY ON ๐๐๐ฌ ๐ฎ๐ญ๐
On October 6th, during her first visit to Seneca Regional Park, Momo bolted when her leash slipped, vanishing into the ๐ฑ๐ฌ๐ฌ ๐๐๐ฅ๐ woods of ๐๐ฅ๐๐๐ง ๐๐๐๐๐ฆ, ๐ฉ๐. Her family, active-duty members stationed at Fort Meade, was heartbroken. The retractable leash, still attached, struck her as she ran downhill, pushing her deeper into survival mode, while the group inadvertently chased after her, further heightening her fear.
Over the next ๐ง๐๐ฅ๐๐ ๐ช๐๐๐๐ฆ, our dedicated efforts included setting up feeding stations, tracking sightings, and logging 4-5 miles daily to haul supplies. Nights were spent navigating dark trails, grilling to spread scent, and ensuring feeding stations were replenished, often taking 26 minutes to reach. Each sighting felt like a victory, but Momo remained elusive, and exhaustion was an understatement for all involved.
At one point, we nearly had her; Momo spent 10 hours near a trap but, just as success felt imminent, a call from a frustrated park resident led to its removal. Despite this setback, we persisted. When our cargo wagon filled with supplies was stolen, it only fueled our determination. Although we spotted Momo a few times, her survival instincts kept her bolting from her family and us.
We faced constant obstacles, including off-leash dogs, well-meaning people trying to โcatchโ her, and individuals tearing down our flyers and trap signs. To those who did this, I hope you realize how much you jeopardized Momoโs rescue.
On ๐๐๐ฌ ๐ฎ๐ฌ we were alarmed by reports of a Shiba Inu spotted running down a busy road outside the park. The urgency of the situation intensified; we worried she might be moving farther away.
Finally, on October 27th
๐ ๐๐๐ฅ๐ข๐๐๐๐ฃ ๐ ๐๐ฅ๐๐๐๐!!! While many people do not believe in miracles, they do happen, sometimes when it is least expected.
After ๐ญ๐ฒ๐ด ๐๐๐ฌ๐ฆ, Pippin, a ๐ญ๐ฑ ๐ฌ๐๐๐ฅ ๐ข๐๐ terrier mix is home safe and sound in ๐ช๐๐ฆ๐๐๐ก๐๐ง๐ข๐ก, ๐๐. Pippin went missing from his home last May - and seemed to vanish.
Professional Pet Trackers came out roughly a week later- and ๐๐ต ๐ฅ๐ข๐ฆ๐ was quick to pick up scent all throughout the area. There had been โ๏ธ sighting after she went missing, and we confirmed that it indeed was Pippin.. but continued to have challenges. Pippin had been calling this her home for quite some time, thus was walked around the area on a regular basis. Our main task was to get out of the area that Pippin walked daily, and figure out which area she had moved onto. Not the simplest of tasks seeing as there was years of scent from daily walks throughout the neighborhood.
After some strategic mapping, we finally had ๐ฃ๐ข๐ฆ๐๐ง๐๐ฉ๐ ๐ฆ๐๐๐ก๐ง in a brand new area โฆ and Pippin had never been there with her people โฆ ๐.
The ๐ข๐๐ ๐ฆ๐ข๐๐๐๐๐ฅ๐ฆ ๐๐ข๐๐ ๐๐ข๐จ๐ฅ๐ฆ๐ in NW Washington DC seemed to be her new spot. Unfortunately, being a resident/members only club, we were continually denied access by every person we spoke to ๐. This city center golf course & retirement home community was anything but small - however being that we were not allowed on the grounds, we worked the perimeter and hoped to find a scent path out, indicating that Pippin was no longer on golf course grounds. No such luck. Every stop we made presented us with a negative, meaning no scent leaving that area.
A bit down, but not giving up we worked with Whitney on a community outreach plan including new effective signage and a variety of ways to alert the e commun

๐ In 1993, a Pit Bull named Wheela won the Ken-L-Ration Dog Hero of the Year award for her heroic actions following a dam break along the Tijuana River. Over the course of three months, Wheela rescued 30 people, 29 dogs, 13 horses and a cat. She also hauled food to stranded animals and led rescuers to 13 abandoned horses. Go, Wheela!

September 14th was supposed to be a day of laughter, love, and celebration as Jiggyโs family and friends were coming and going from their new home after attending a wedding. Somehow in the mist of all the celebrations and doors not being shut, patio doors staying wide open, and various uber drivers shuffling people to and from the reception venue- Jiggy decided that he too deserved a little time to party ๐- but in his own way.
Once people started calling it a night, Jiggys family noticed that he was no where to be found. Knowing that Jiggy is in an advanced level hide & seeker, they started to search - even checking to see if he had managed to find a way into the walls. After several hours and still no Jiggy, the search ๐ฆ went into high gear.
While looking in neighbors yards, bushes, and under anything they came across they came face to face with Jiggy - who had no interest in returning home. As soon as eye contact was made, Jiggy set off on the same path that he had taken - which coincidentally lead to the Oyster Farm that was almost directly behind their home.
Feeling a bit more relieved that they at least had proof of life - they started reaching out to lost pet organizations to see what their next move should be. This is when their luck took yet another turn - they found Melissa with Connecticut Lost Dog Recovery and things started picking up the pace.
They found that Jiggy likely had been making many a friend as there were several outdoor cats in the area - and they would all undoubtedly be showing up for the โall you can eatโ fish buffet. Flyers were step โ๏ธ and they also were able to get a couple trail cameras in various places in hopes of catching their boy.

3๏ธโฃ An ownerโs strategically placed scent items can attract your pet back home- you can also break out the grill & start cooking chicken, hot dogs, bacon.๐ฅ
4๏ธโฃ Walk your neighborhood and talk to neighbors; hand out flyers and ask them to check their security cameras. ๐ฅ๐ท
5๏ธโฃ Remember- no calling or yelling for a lost dog!! If they are in flight mode they will no longer recognize you by sight or soundโฆ it is all about scent at this point!!
