Rescued from a hoarding case in Fredericksburg VA, 2 year old, 10 lb Doxie mix Oswald had just begun living the good life he always deserved. But on June 27 in Ashland, VA, Oswald unexpectedly bolted out the front door of his new home. His parents gave chase โ as any loving pet parent would โ but lost sight of him in a cornfield and dense woods near a dangerously busy road.
Day 7: Enter Professional Pet Trackers.
Our K9 team โ Shelby, Lily, and Bayou โ quickly picked up where human eyes couldnโt.
๐พ K9 Shelby tracked strong scent through the homeownerโs driveway, into the woods, and down to a creek โ Oswald had found water.
๐พ K9 Lily confirmed his scent leading deeper into the back woods.
๐พ K9 Bayou tracked him through the cornfield and back into the wooded area behind the property.
Thanks to a kind and incredibly supportive homeowner (and her family next door), we had full access to the property. That trust and generosity made this entire search possible. We mapped Oswaldโs pattern and set a perimeter. Cameras and calming protocols were set up, and his fur parents followed everything to a T.
Then โ a BREAKTHROUGH on Day 10.
The homeowner spotted โa little brown dog in a red collarโ darting down her driveway โ right on the track our dogs had followed. He fled the second he realized heโd been seen. Classic flight mode.
But now we had confirmation: Oswald was still in the area.
Fur parents rushed over with Albus, Oswaldโs canine buddy and magnet dog. With us on the phone, they patiently used calming signals to create a safe environment. Hours passed. Tension rose.
Finally, near a CVS parking lot, Oswald was spotted running full tilt before darting into an apartment complex. His dad followed, stayed calm, listened, and waited.
And after a suspenseful, heart-pounding hour of cautious approach and retreatโฆ

Oswald, still in survival mode after 10 long days, was finally safe. Heโs now home, happy, and devouring boiled chicken and rice like the little warrior he is.
