A lot of people are surprised to know that pets can in fact get diabetes. This is typically a maintainable condition, and pets can even be put on insulin.

Who is Most at Risk?
- Overweight/Obese pets
- Predisposed breeds
- Pets with certain conditions (Cushing’s, Pancreatitis, etc.)

Signs of Diabetes in Pets:
- Increased/excessive thirst and urination
- Increased hunger
- Weight loss
- Cloudiness of eyes
- Weakness

Some of you may have noticed a new sign in our lobby that displays the amount of tick borne diseases since the beginning of the year. As of today, we are at 98! Stop by and get your flea/tick preventative.

Note: Most of our preventatives are prescription. Therefore, your pet may have to have been seen within a year to legally obtain the product.

Why Do We Recommend Microchipping Your Pet?

- Tags and collars can be broken, ripped, or removed. A microchip is permanent and cannot be tampered with. Although, tags and collars should be worn as well.

August is Itchy Pet Awareness Month!

Some things to look out for:
- Scratching
- Chewing/licking hair (bald spots)
- Red and irritated skin
- Excessive rolling around
- Body odor (including ears)

If your fur baby is having any of these symptoms, it may be time to schedule a skin exam!

*ATTENTION ALL RABBIT OWNERS*
We are now carrying a vaccine against Rabbit Hemorrhagic Disease Virus Type 2 (RHDV2).

What is RHDV2?
RHDV2 is a highly infectious virus that affects only rabbits and hares. This virus causes lesions throughout the internal organs that cause difficulty with clotting that can lead to internal bleeding. May also cause neurologic, respiratory, gastrointestinal signs and even sudden death.

THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND:
1. RHDV2 HAS been diagnosed in Ohio. This disease is rapidly spreading. It is most prevalent in the western US, but is promptly making its way through the midwest.
2. Rabbits without outdoor exposure are being diagnosed. RHDV2 remains in the environment for long periods of time and can be tracked indoors. It can be transmitted through direct contact with an infected rabbit, but also indirectly (through food, water, f***s, hands, etc.).
3. RHDV2 does NOT affects dogs, cats, or other exotic species.
4. We are highly recommending all rabbits get vaccinated, even those without outdoor access.
5. The vaccine needs to be boostered after 3 weeks and followed up with yearly boosters.
