Heads Up, Cattle Producers!

Think ahead - those dry fall pastures play a bigger role in spring grass tetany than you might realize. Here's the science:

• Fall pastures low in magnesium = depleted mineral reserves in cattle
• Spring's lush grass typically high in potassium
• When combined = increased grass tetany risk during spring transition

Why Magnesium Matters:
• Critical for nerve function
• Essential for muscle control
• Helps maintain appetite
• Supports milk production

Watch for These Warning Signs:
• Muscle twitching
• Staggering/unstable walk
• Extreme nervousness
• Head thrown back
• Convulsions
Can progress quickly - death can occur within 4-8 hours of first symptoms

We’ve gotten many calls this year, Ranchers frustrated with a lot of grass and watching their cattle go backwards.
