Yesterday, I had the task of collecting, washing and packaging eggs. A homesteader's job is never done. Carefully walking on top of an icy walkway, I managed to bring all of them back, minus a few that burst open from the cold, into the house for a thorough cleaning.

Ducks, unlike chickens, do not lay their eggs in nesting boxes unless trained to do so. They lay anywhere they wish. From dirty ponds to thorny bushes, I've seen it all.

When I got done washing and packaging what my girls gave me, I sat back and realized how blessed I was to receive these tiny treasures. In the iciest weather and the coldest temperatures, my girls continued to feed my small community of patrons.

This is what Homesteading life is all about.

It's a delicate balance where both animal and Husbandress rely on each other for survival. This weekend, I'll bring these tiny treasures to the Monroe Farmers Market for anyone who wishes to purchase grass-fed, organic eggs. I'll have chicken and duck.

They make great omelets, quiches and are great in baked goods.

I purchased sourdough bread from Nishi’s Vegan Creations this weekend along with her peanut butter muffin. Her sourdough bread is divine!
