Maple is available for adoption!

4yo, 15.1+ HH, sorrel mare from Sheepshead-Heath Creek HMA in Oregon. She was captured in September 2021.

Maple is a tall, gorgeous, athletic-built mustang. If you are looking for one for barrels/endurance/eventing/or anything that needs an athletic horse, she’s your girl!

She’s very smart! She definitely thrives when being asked to do things versus told to do them, and she’s smart enough to trust her handler and do mostly anything they ask if she trusts them.

She’s confident and when she decides something is okay, she’s chill and doesn’t care about it anymore.
For example; Most mustangs, the first time they are brushed they are scared for a bit on the neck, then get used to it on their neck, then are scared of getting brushed at the shoulder, then get used to it on the shoulder, then are scared for the stomach and back, then get used to it. If that makes sense.
Maple is one where she was nervous/cautious about the brush at first, but as soon as she realized that it was enjoyable, I could brush her entire body the first time with no other flinches beyond the very first approach at her neck.
She put up quite a fight the very first day halter breaking/learning to give to pressure, but once she realized what I wanted she figured out leading easy peasy and will follow me wherever.
She yields her hindquarters well, and loves scratches.

When she leaves she will have about a month of consistent handling under her belt! She will require an approved BLM application (which only requires a pen with 5ft fencing or a 12x12 stall since she’s gentled - I can help you figure out a way to get your facility set up if needed!😊)

Currently:
-Halter Broke ✅
-Leads in her pen and out of the pen✅
-Can be caught in a small pen✅
-Stands tied✅
-Stands for grooming✅
-Yields Hindquarters✅
-Behaves around dogs✅
-in the process of finishing up her gentling process(see below)

Before she leaves(within the next two weeks) she will:
-Pick up all four feet✅
-Willingly Load into a trailer and back out✅

By request:
-I can get her first trim done with my farrier
-I can expose her to electric fence (note: BLM still requires a pen or stall on site in case of regression)

Located in Sturgeon Bay, WI. Delivery available up to 200 miles.

BLM reassignment plus training fee

How can a clinic benefit you in different ways than a private lesson?

Private lessons and clinics are two totally different ball games!

My favorite part about participating in clinics is having the opportunity to watch others and learn from the clinician as they are helping others work through their issues. You may not be currently having that issue with your horse, but it is a great opportunity to add techniques to your toolbox in case you ever come across a similar situation with any horse!
I can learn so much by watching, and having the opportunity to watch a clinician help 5+ totally different riders and totally different horses work through things is awesome!

Another reason is the questions! Other participants or auditors may have questions you never even knew you had. It is a great opportunity to be able to learn from others in addition to individualized attention.

Join us August 31 to ride, watch, and learn how to work through confidence hurdles at all levels of riding!

Did you know while not only being an absolute blast, doing obstacles can help build trust and confidence between you and your horse.

Are you thinking, there’s no way my horse would go near that, I’d be a goner, we’re not ready for that? Then this is THE PERFECT opportunity for you to gain that confidence and trust in yourself and your horse! Let’s conquer that fear while you’re under professional guidance!

OR
Are you on the other end of the spectrum thinking, my horse would do all of those, easy peasy, no problem. Then this is also the PERFECT opportunity for you!! I challenge you to come out, and I will guarantee to find and help you through at least one obstacle you and your horse struggle with, or a hole in you or your horse’s foundation that I can help you work on. If not, I will refund you 100% of the clinic fee.

Things this clinic may help with:
-Trailer loading issues
-Focus issues for horse or rider
-Lack of confidence on trail
-Buddy Sourness and barn sourness
-General Disobedience
-Lack of motivation/willingness
-Pushiness on the ground, or hard headed-ness under saddle
-So much more!!

Come join me in Sturgeon Bay, WI on August 31 for my Building Confidence and Connection with Obstacles clinic at Geitner Homestead Equine Campground! There are over 70 obstacles for us to work with!

Clinic is Saturday August 31 starting at 9am. $125 per horse/rider. Auditors are welcome for $15/person. Camping is also available for the weekend - stay the night and enjoy the many miles of trails they have in beautiful Door County while you’re here!

Please call/text Ava (920)495-1865 or facebook message me to reserve your spot! Limited spots available to ensure everyone can get the individualized attention they need in addition to group work!

We are hosting an Obstacle Clinic on August 31 at Geitner Homestead Equine Campground!! What better way to build your connection with your horse, while also building confidence, than to tackle some obstacles together!

This clinic will have a limited number of riders, so each rider can get the individualized attention they need on top of some group work. We will focus on fine-tuning some fundamentals, learning new tools to apply in sticky situations, and then will venture onto the obstacle course and have some fun! Please message us if you would like to reserve a spot! :)

Zenyatta has arrived for training (and possible consignment for those of you who want a mustang😉)!

She is a very sweet 9 y/o Mustang mare who was rescued unhandled from a kill pen 2 years ago. The goal is to fix some holes in her previous training (she has a handful of rides a year ago) and get her going good and consistent under saddle! She has such a kind eye and calm demeanor, I can’t wait to see her shine in my training program!💕

I will be posting consistent updates on her!

Now that I’m back from my Mustang Challenge in Vegas, I finally can start scheduling out for the rest of the year! 🥳

- The 3 mustangs I picked up in May will start their gentling process this week - up until now they’ve just been hanging out and eating lots of hay! I will have more updates on them in the coming weeks as we progress!

- I have some openings for training for August/Septemebr/October! I waited to schedule anything to make sure I got home safe and sound from Vegas, so now that we’re back I can start filling up the books! PM me if you are interested! I specialize in mustangs, c**t starting, and fixing problem horses!

- I am also now scheduling lessons and travel to you training sessions for the coming months! If we talked prior to me going to Vegas, I will be reaching out to you this week, BUT if you don’t hear from me, or want to get a kick start on scheduling, message me so I can get you on the books!

Tons of references available!😊

Lastly we have tag #7955, known as Echo! She has been documented her entire life by photographers and wild horse advocates.

She is a 12 year old, 15hh paint mare from South Steens HMA in Oregon. She was captured in September 2022.

She doesn’t seem afraid, but definitely has more dominant/alpha tendencies than others in the group! Although she isn’t sure about me being in her bubble, she stayed attentive and curious throughout our first sessions! I’m looking forward to seeing her transformation as she starts to get used to me being around her!

She will be available for adoption once gentled!

Note: I’ve included a bunch of pictures from photographers who’ve documented her life! It is so cool to see pictures of her from a couple days old in May 2012, throughout her life until her roundup in September 2022, and then seeing her now! Enjoy!

Next up for introductions is tag #7378, now Chester!

Picked up May 10, 2024 in Cassopolis, MI.

He is a 4 year old, 15.1hh+ palomino gelding from Fox Hog HMA in California. He was captured in September 2023.

He is definitely the most nervous of the group, but who can blame him! He is already showing some progress and reached out to touch my hand with his nose on the first day! He is sensitive but thoughtful, and I think his curiosity combined with his thoughtfulness will help him come around quickly!

Stay tuned for his progress! Once gentled he will be available for adoption! 1️⃣5️⃣0️⃣0️⃣

Quick shout out to Len Villano Photography for coming out to watch the Mustang event and taking some great pictures yesterday! He was very respectful of the process, and caught some great shots!

Who knew I talked with my hands so much!😂

Based on feedback, it sounds like there is a lot of interest in hosting this event again, so stay tuned for another potentially in September!

It’s officially time to introduce the newbies!

Picked up May 10, 2024 in Cassopolis, MI.

Starting off is tag #7647, now Maple! She was top of the class yesterday during my Meet the Mustangs event!

She is a 4 year old, 15.1hh+ sorrel mare from Sheepshead-Heath Creek HMA in Oregon. She was captured in September 2021. She has already shown that she loves attention and isn’t scared of people. She is very in your pocket and sweet. First day ever working her, I was able to remove her tag and halter her with no issues! She’s a big girl and I’d guess she’s still got some growing to do!

Stay tuned for her progress! Once gentled she will be available for adoption! 1️⃣5️⃣0️⃣0️⃣

There is no better feeling than when everything clicks, when the bond is created, and when the horse starts to look forward to working and seeing you ❤️
It takes TIME, PATIENCE, DEDICATION, and UNDERSTANDING, but the results are so rewarding.

So you’ve been bucked off, your toe was stepped on, the horses got out of the pasture and into the feed room, you missed your appointment because the horse wouldn’t load -

You’re mad. What now?

Do not react, do not react, do not react. Breathe.

The first thing many go to doing is reacting. The urge to “do” something quickly and thoughtlessly has lead to worsening many messes. Chasing running horses will not make them stand calmly. Getting after the horse that bucked you off will not connect to the moment it happened in.

The moment is over, the thing is done. There is no taking it back by getting big and angry or “teaching a lesson” that will do anything. The only lesson to be learned here is yours. I know it sucks, but just breathe.

Now, calmly gather up the horses. Close the trailer door. Check yourself for injury. Whatever needs doing, do it as calmly as you can. The horse is probably out eating grass somewhere and isn’t living in the same mind frame you are - the moment is gone, now grass. So breathe, go catch the horses, clean up the mess, whatever you need to do.

Now- what was missed? Why did the horses get out? Why wouldn’t the horse load? Why did you get air time today? What’s the step that needs to be taken now to prevent this from happening again?

Sometimes we get so wrapped up in the mistake we forget to adjust what caused it. Do we need to lock the feed room door? Do we need to practice loading maybe weeks before the appointment? Did our horse get spooked and needs some confidence building, maybe our seat needs a tune up?

The rest of the workload after repairing what was damaged needs to go toward prevention and education. Consult help if you need it, either for your fencing, training, riding, whatever needs doing.

But taking a moment to calmly sort through a mess is a very valuable life skill-

Rule number one, breathe, don’t just react. Think, then act, then work toward prevention.
