✨ Sometimes the best moments come when our dogs just get to be dogs. 🐶💨 Today, Lulabelle had the time of her life “hunting” a chipmunk… let’s just say the chipmunk won. 😉 But the joy was all hers (and ours too, watching her!) 💕

🐕 Allowing our dogs to safely explore their instincts, sniff, chase (within reason!), and enjoy the world around them is such an important part of enrichment. It’s not always about “success” — it’s about the freedom, the fun, and the wagging tails. 🌿🌞

So here’s to celebrating the little adventures that make our dogs’ lives fuller (and way more entertaining for us)! 🐾✨

✨ Trainers never stop learning ✨

Even Scoop (Dr. Andy’s own dog!) is working on some big feelings. To help support him, Andy and Scoop joined the Feisty Fido class through A Sound Beginning hosted at ADOPT Pet Shelter in Naperville.

The class was a lot of fun 🎉 and such a good reminder that no matter how much you already know or how long you’ve been doing this, there are always opportunities to learn, grow, and do better.

🌟 Did you know our responses to the world aren’t just “fight” or “flight”? There’s also flirt! 🥰

👉 Flirt is a social strategy dogs (and humans!) use to smooth things over, diffuse tension, or build friendly connections. It’s playful, silly, and helps keep interactions light instead of stressful.

💌 Here you can see Willow giving Jim her best “hey there, big guy” moves — choosing connection and play over conflict. These softer responses are just as important as the big dramatic ones we usually talk about.

🐾💬 Mouth sparring 101! 💬🐾

Toto & Robin (yes, he is still available for adoption at A.D.O.P.T. Pet Shelter in Naperville 🏡❤️) are showing off one of the most common and positive play styles dogs use—mouth sparring (aka “bitey face”).

This game helps dogs practice communication and build social skills. The coolest part? These two have lowered their energy as play went on, choosing a calmer, more relaxed style. That shows great self-control and awareness of each other’s comfort levels. 👏🐶

At Do Better Training, we celebrate play like this—it’s enrichment, emotional regulation, and social learning all rolled into one. 💕

🌟 Meet Nova 🌟

This young Bernedoodle is literally the cutest 🐶💕 Nova is hanging out with us while her parents are away and joining our Training Tidbit program! 🎓🐾

We’ve been focusing on supporting the skills she’s been building at home with her amazing trainer and guardians.

🎶🐕✨. Our goal: help Nova feel more comfortable around other dogs. Through the power of play 🎉🎾, she’s been gaining positive experiences near her peers (just in the other room having their own blast while she enjoys special time with us 😍).

We love seeing her confidence shine and can’t wait to keep cheering her on! 💖✨

Puppy faces in the window can be hard to resist 🐾 — but many pet store puppies come from large-scale commercial breeders (puppy mills), and the story behind them often isn’t as cute as the display.

Lulabelle is a perfect example. Her original guardians purchased her from a pet store believing she was a purebred cattle dog. They expected a small, manageable working breed dog — but what they got was a cattle dog / pit bull mix who is giant by cattle dog standards and way too high-energy for their lifestyle. Without the education and support needed to set everyone up for success, Lulabelle eventually ended up in a shelter.

She was one of the lucky ones 💙 — she landed with Dr. Andy and has grown into the heart of the Do Better Training family. But so many dogs with the same story aren’t as fortunate.

When bringing a puppy into your life, make sure you know where they come from. Responsible breeders and rescues will give you the transparency, support, and education you need. Pet stores often don’t.

Every dog deserves the chance at the right home, the right environment, and the right start. ✨
