PATIENCE: the #1 thing I see most of my clients have the most difficulty with. Remember you are bringing in an animal into YOUR home / lifestyle. They do not speak our language so it's up to us to learn theirs. When exposing dogs to new things it's IMPORTANT you go at the dogs pace. This is a sped up video of JACK our board & train from last month. 6 y/o lab lived on a farm his entire life. Didn't know much about anything outside of it. Now labs being good dogs to begin with he gave the owners just enough on his own, until it was time for them to move. Jack has NEVER seen stairs his entire life. Naturally so he was TERRIFIED of them. He would just flatline & throw all his weight on the ground & not move cuz of his fear. His new owners moved into the city with a story home. Jack spent 2 weeks with us to help build his confidence & desensitize him to the stairs. What you DON'T see in this video is the 45+ mins it took to get him to even go down oNe stair. PATIENCE. You have to have it. We worked through his fears TOGETHER. What might take you an hour at first, will take 45 mins the 2nd time. 20 mins the 3rd time & before you know it they're crushing through their stressors. Dogs depend on us. Give them a little patience. You can't rush fear... stay tuned to see a follow up video of Jack! Ps he KILLED it & goes up & down the stairs on his own now!!
