♦️♠️ 3rd Required Post♠️♦️

We are now officially 2 weeks away from heading to West Virginia for the Appalachian Trainer Face Off. This horse has been one of my most challenging horse to date since I’ve been competing in the atfo but it’s been the most rewarding task yet. Laredo has made me work for it and earn it every step of the way. From the shut down gelding that questioned every move I made, I have now gained his trust.

In our training time Laredo has had many hours of training from on the ground to in the saddle. He has had endless miles of trails which is where he really shines and is the most relaxed. He will go wherever you point him, through the creeks, ditches, rough terrain, he will lead, follow, go in a group, or out alone, and is traffic and road safe. I simply have never had so much enjoyment out on the trails then with Laredo. Laredo has also been started on cattle and he really seems to enjoy it and is a complete natural as well.

Laredo still has some things that he isn’t the most confident on and will need more time on. He doesn’t trot or lope the prettiest circles or have the nicest transitions but we are getting there slowly but surely. One thing about Laredo is with new people he does have his guard up. It takes him a little while to warm up to others but once you gain it, he is the sweetest guy. When I first started with Laredo his feet were in rough shape, I assume he had never seen a farrier before due to the way he would kick. This was a battle for awhile about his back feet but now being around him you’d never guess that was an issue beforehand. Due to this, he will need a patient farrier.
For any potential adopters, Laredo can only be turned out with other geldings, and he is at the top of the pecking order.

Laredo has a really nice start into neck reining. This horse is very soft in the bridle and will take a rider with soft hands that knows how to use leg pressure. I would recommend an intermediate level adopter just because of the training I’ve put on him. He does have buttons and will need someone who knows a little bit more than the average basics.

No matter the outcome of the competition I’ll be proud of Laredo. I’ll forever be grateful for the opportunity and the ways he has taught me to be a better horseman . ♥️

Come August this handsome guy will be adoptable to approved adopters at the Appalachian Trainer Face Off. Laredo’s training has been a slow and steady process but I’m sure by the time of the competition he is going to make someone a great partner!

Here’s a link to his wishlist if anyone would like to purchase anything that he needs, it would be greatly appreciated!

Here’s also a link to apparel! Purchasing a t-shirt, hoodie, tank, stickers, etc greatly helps support the competition costs. Also, it helps Laredo and myself with our social media score.

It’s been two weeks of getting to know . It’s been a slow go trying to get him around to the idea of trusting me and letting his guard down. Laredo isn’t the biggest fan of anything really but I’m starting to see him come around to the idea of learning that everything is going to be alright and that it’s okay to have emotions instead of being so shut down. So far Laredo has had his feet trimmed which went okay for the most part, a handful of baths, and just lots of love and groundwork. I’m looking forward to see this guy come out of his shell and seeing what we may accomplish!

05/13/2024

Just right at 2 weeks in is making strides in his training. He has so much try and really wants to ride around!

05/09/2024

I wasn’t planning on seeing if was okay around dogs this early but “coal train” took it upon himself to test it for me… it’s safe to say we are good! 🤷🏻‍♀️😂

Introducing Laredo for the Outlaw Division with Colby O'Connor.

Unfortunately, we got some new information regarding Samson, her choice at the pick up, having been diagnosed with kissing spine before he made his way to us.

It is said that Samson's owner was told he would need surgery to be ridden.

Samson was in the Outlaw Division because he had a history of bucking under saddle. If he does actually have kissing spine, it would be unfair to compete him.

Colby is going to work with his manners for a few weeks, so that we can more easily have diagnostics done on him in Lexington.

In the meantime, this fella had come in with Sovereign but was canny enough to escape being loaded onto the trailer for pickup, along with another can't catch me savvy mare.

Today, Nelson and Suzanna travelled to evaluate them to see if they were solid Outlaw candidates.

While they both were, Laredo is carrying more bad baggage and at an older age, is more likely to fall into a mess.

The other mare is just simply not handled, though a talented jumper-LOL- and also has some WWF wrestling you to the mat moves.😂

We gave Colby the choice, and she wanted to try to unpack Laredo's baggage. The poor fella is kind but scared to death because of unscrupulous prior handling.

It happens every year that we must replace a horse for a trainer...though usually not this early.

So let's welcome .

He seems to be around 14 years old and about 14.3hh.

Day 2 with has been successful to say the least! First off, I am beyond grateful for Coolio getting me this far in the competition. I couldn’t of asked for a better minded horse throughout this. We’re we perfect? Absolutely not but I am just so proud of this little feller! We received 1st place in the trail today, making us 1st place overall going into the freestyles tomorrow. We go at 3:21 for our freestyle if anyone would like to tune in you can watch the livestream at the Appalachian Trainer Face Off page! 🧡

Sunday Funday with the one and only !

A couple weeks back I decided to take a stab at introducing Coolio to the driving life due to not being able to ride as much as I’d like to this year from still dealing with a back/hip injury. He’s done tremendously well and it’s been so much fun with this special pony! It’s sad knowing our days are coming to an end with the Appalachian Trainer Face Off coming up on us quickly but it’s been a fun past few months and I can’t wait to see where life takes this guy!
