💉🩸 Today was blood drawing day for routine biosecurity labs. All bucks and does will be tested for CAE and Johne’s.

🔬We us UBRL… they are quick and easy. They’re also excellent to work with.

📸 Mirikoza Farm Aurora was gracious enough to allow us to take pics of her during the blood draw.

👉🏼 You can do this! Once you get the hang of it, it literally takes a few minutes per goat (as long as you have great helpers like I do!). We drew blood on 15 goats today and it took maybe 30-40 minutes total.

Herdrock GV Chain Breaker had something to say this morning….

“Ugh, I heard there’s snow or ice coming! ❄️ I don’t know who thought hooves and ice were a good combo, but I’m definitely not ready for it. 🐐 I just got the hang of running around without slipping, and now? Now I gotta deal with all this cold. Someone please send me a blanket… or maybe a heater. If I start yelling for hot cocoa, don’t judge!🍫🫖”

Winter is about to show up and show off in Kentucky and surrounding area with lows in the single digits (and lower in sure as you head north)!

As the temperatures drop, it’s crucial to make sure our Nigerian Dwarf goats stay warm and healthy! ❄️ Here are a few tips to care for them during the cold weather:
1. Provide Shelter: Goats need a dry, draft-free space to escape the wind. A simple barn or lean-to with plenty of bedding (like straw) helps keep them cozy.
2. Keep Them Fed: Cold weather means more energy is needed to stay warm. Make sure they have access to plenty of hay and fresh water to keep their systems running strong.
3. Check Water Regularly: Goats won’t drink frozen water, so it’s essential to ensure their water supply is always accessible and unfrozen.
4. Offer Extra Nutrition: Cold weather can increase their energy needs. Consider adding grains or supplements to their diet for extra calories.
5. Check Hooves & Coat: Make sure their hooves are trimmed and check their coat for any signs of wear or injury that could be worsened by cold, wet conditions.

Taking these simple steps helps ensure your goats stay healthy, happy, and thriving through the winter months. Stay warm and take care of your herd!🐐

With kidding season just weeks away… we are not only getting excited about babies… but also about MILK🥛!

Life on the homestead is full of little joys, and one of our favorites is the fresh, creamy milk from our Nigerian Dwarf goats! 🐐 Their milk is rich, sweet, and perfect for everything from homemade cheese to a refreshing glass on its own. It’s a true blessing to be able to provide for our family in such a natural, fulfilling way.

Our breeding plan is pinned on our FB page, but wanted to share more about our upcoming kidding season!

🐐💕 To start us off around the last few days of January is…. Queeny bred to Thriller!

Dam- Little Tots Estate QueenOfNite, she’ll be a 2F. We will be milk testing this year and I fully expect her to get her *M. She started off her 1F lactation very strong… I ended up drying serveral does off earlier than I wanted to due to the busyness of work, sports, etc. 🫣🤪 (Links in comments to website)
