They are loyal and affectionate, entertaining and expressive, and a joy to live with. We produce one or two litters of puppies per year, striving to produce quality bird dogs with strong natural abilities and pleasing te

mperaments. Our puppies are raised in the house so they can be carefully observed and socialized with our family. We believe bird dogs must have a strong desire and prey drive, focused on searching for and finding game; a “nose for game” to locate birds when they are present; and a “biddable” temperament, that is, eager to please and easily controlled. Our dogs are rigorously hunted during the bird season and tested in the off season in North American Versatile Hunting Dog Association (NAVHDA), American Kennel Club (AKC), and United Kennel Club (UKC) field trials. We believe conformation is important, both in the show ring and in the field. Our dogs must meet the FCI standard and be free of hereditary defects (OFA certified). We strive to produce hunting partners with natural hunting, pointing, tracking and retrieving ability; and excellent temperaments.

Happy Birthday to Nellie!!! Janelle de Pays du Soleil MH is ten years old today. She's getting a little gray and showing her age a bit but she still gets the zoomies and acts more like a puppy than a senior. She's a lover and a sweetheart!

A happier day today, celebrating Tessie de Pays du Soleil's second birthday! Tessie is such a mama's girl and baby, always on my lap when I sit down! She is a pest of a little sister to Teddy and Ruby, always kissing them in the face and wanting to play. Her mom Nellie tolerates her and sometimes plays with her. She's a happy girl who keeps us on our toes!

It’s been four days, but still hard to believe that our precious Penny is gone. She spent all day last Saturday at the emergency vet hospital fighting for her life, but sadly couldn’t overcome the aggressive infection that filled her chest with thick fluid. The diagnosis was Pyothorax, usually caused from a wound, or from a foreign object like a cactus needle or foxtail that penetrates the skin or is ingested and imbeds in tissue. She didn’t have any obvious injuries or illness so we don’t know what caused it. We’ve lost several dogs over the years, but none at such a young age. At four years and ten months old, Penny had such potential as a field dog and breeding female. She had earned her UKC Trialer title this spring and was an awesome hunting dog. She was a beauty, a sweetheart, a nurturing mother, and a best friend to our other dogs. She is dearly missed and will remain forever in our hearts. 💔💔

Lucky puppy! Valerie, now "Elly," is on her way to Reno this morning with her amazing new family. She is going to have a fun life!

Valerie will be with us for another week before heading to her new home in Reno. She is lonely sleeping without her brother and sister but is having fun playing with Mom Ruby and Aunt Tessie. Her new name will be Elly.

Vincent "Max" de Pays du Soleil also went to his new home in Phoenix this weekend with Dave to join his wife, daughter and other dog. Max's first night and the introduction to his new canine buddy went well. We look forward to seeing Max as he grows up!

Two puppies went to their new homes this weekend. Venus de Pays du Soleil's first adventure was an overnight camping trip on her way home to Fort Collins, Colorado with her new owner Mark. He said, "It was late and cold but she climbed on top of my sleeping bag and had no problems. The next morning it was cold but she had to run around and check out trees and everything."

Yesterday was a tough day for us as we had to say goodby to little Vader. He wasn't growing as much as the other puppies and we suspected something wasn't right. After an x-ray confirmed that he had mega esophagus, the vet recommended that we let him go. It was heartbreaking but the best thing for him to avoid suffering. RIP Vader. 💔😢

Well, the vet was right, four puppies! Two males and two females arrived yesterday and Ruby did a great job! We have three tricolors and one orange/white (male). Mom and babies are all doing great!

X-ray today! The vet says four puppies but we think there may be another one. We'll know for sure in about five days!

Ruby is counting the days (20 to go!) and getting excited to welcome puppies. Reservations are still available! See previous post about the Ruby and Andros breeding. Both are excellent hunting dogs and have earned their UKC GUN titles. Both also placed in their classes at the CEB national show in December. And, both are such sweethearts! It's official! Penny earned the final passes for her Trialer title at the EBs of the Southwest events in March. Love this girl!

This made our day! This is "Duncan" celebrating his 15th birthday! He is from Rosie and Titus's first litter and a littermate to our Ellie who passed three years ago. We are so happy to see Duncan thriving with lots of love from his family!

A bit late posting this, but here is a video of Penny passing her Water Retrieve Test at the CEB National Trials in December. Her video was used as an example of the test on the CEB web site and page. She and Teddy both passed that day and we are proud!

So proud of Penny this morning! This was her very first attempt at a water retrieve and she nailed it! "Duck retrieve, no problem Dad!" 💦🦆😁

Penny killed a tiny lizzard and carried it around to keep the other dogs from getting it. She just plays with them and won’t eat them. Whereas, Nellie would have had it for a snack in a second. 🤮

Rosie is back to her old self! We were worried after the July 4th holiday when she became very ill. She's been so healthy throughout her 16 years but we prepared ourselves for bad news. The vet wasn't sure of the problem but suspected pancreatitis so we treated her for that and gradually saw improvement. She's on a special diet now and eating well and it's great to see her enjoying life again!

Since its Rosie’ birthday and the hottest day we’ve had so far (104), she gets to play in the sprinklers this evening. 💦💦💦 We had to curtail her shower time last summer because she got a skin infection, but the birthday girl should get to have some fun!🥳

We have been watching a couple of coyotes every evening on the hill behind us. They were really putting on a concert tonight, but soon after I took this video, I heard a shotgun blast and the coyotes disappeared. ☹️Turn on your sound!
