Teaching your puppy to sit is one of the first basic commands, and it's the foundation of good behavior.
Here's how to do it:
1️⃣ Get their attention: Hold a treat in your hand and let your puppy sniff it.
2️⃣ Move the treat upwards: Slowly move the treat above your puppy’s head so they naturally sit down.
3️⃣ Reward & Repeat: Once your puppy is sitting, immediately reward them with the treat and praise.

Meet "Yoshi", a handsome 9-month-old Australian Shepherd currently enrolled in our board and train program, focusing specifically on reactivity training.
Reactivity in dogs refers to an exaggerated response to stimuli, such as people, other dogs, or even moving objects like cars. This can manifest as barking, lunging, or general excitement, making it challenging for both the dog and their owner to enjoy walks and social interactions.
In this video, we’re just a couple of days into Yoshi’s training. As you’ll see, he tends to bark at people, dogs, and even passing cars. To help with his desensitization process, my dog "Kiba", a calm black Australian Shepherd mix, is assisting in the training. Yoshi’s reactions can be triggered by even minimal changes in Kiba’s behavior, like sitting or lying down.
Throughout the session, I reward Yoshi whenever he chooses not to react, redirecting his focus back to me instead of Kiba. It’s a crucial step in teaching him that he can remain calm and attentive, even when there are distractions nearby. Watch as we work together to help Yoshi gain confidence and learn to manage his reactivity effectively!
