Something we hear far more often than we should is "Bully Breeds shouldn't be Service Dogs" or "that dog is going to hurt someone one day" which is such an insane thing to say. It blows my mind that in 2025 we're still breed shaming and labeling all bullies as aggressive. Melancholy is the SWEETEST love bug and extremely friendly, she has the perfect temperament for service work. And yet we still recieve comments both online and in person about how her breed cant be trusted.
Funny story, we were once shopping in Home Depot with Melancholy and a stranger came up to us just to tell us "you know those types of dogs all just snap one day right?" Don't worry, we still laugh about that interaction to this day.
Here's the thing, Bully Breeds get a bad rap, and no I'm not going to sit here and say "they are nanny dogs" bc that isnt true either. We all know what they were originally bred for, but they have come so far from where they started. Amstaffs in particular were once bred to control pest population like mice and other vermin and in modern day are bred with an emphasis on stable temperament for family life - often known to be extremely loyal, confident, smart, people oriented and affectionate.
Instead of shaming an entire breed, let's instead start shaming low quality back yard breeders who are in it to make money rather than to better the breed. I am proud to say Melancholy is a well bred LBK Amstaff with a wonderful true-to-her-breed temperament
