Ok where are my cat people at ?!?

This is Mrs Kitty and she is looking for her forever home.

This is a little different than my usual posts but she has unfortunately outlived her owner and the surviving family are clients who have asked for my help to find her a loving home as they can’t keep her responsibly. I believe she is like 8 so a senior baby for sure

Spent the morning back at Summit Veterinary Hospital.

The surgery incision has healed and her staples where removed today. Which does mean she is cleared to move more and her knee should be fine moving forward.

However, the antibiotic resistant staff infection we have been fighting created an abscess above the surgical sight. That abscess ruptured. So now in addition to extending her aggressive antibiotic treatment two more weeks, she also has a topical ointment that I will need to apply twice a day when I replace the bandage on the ruptured abscess.

Hopefully this medication works (it did in the lab when they ran the culture of the infection) and her knee will be fully recovered. 🤞🏻 mom has no more money in the bank so she better be good this “limp” has cost about 14k already

Getting back to working now that Karma’s recovery ❤️‍🩹 is going smoothly. This is Butterscotch. When he first started working with us he was reactive on walks, and lacked manners with people. He is still a hyper pup but now with more exercise, enrichment, and clear boundaries. He is making great progress

Hopefully this will be the last Karma update for a while ❤️‍🩹

She has been home for 24 hours, no complications or surprises 😅

Her vitals are stable and have been since returning from the hospital
Her appetite is back
She can stand on her own and even walk outside to relieve herself
Her bowl movements are a bit soft but regular (soft makes sense as she has been having liquid and rehydrated meals)

As her mom I can finally breath. I got relativity decent sleep. I even was comfortable enough to leave the house for a brief outing with the other dogs today.

Hopefully the bandage stays in place until Wednesday, then the staples for 10 days, and ultimately healing until recovery in about 5 weeks ❤️‍🩹

Another Karma update

She came home from the hospital last night with some additional staples and a compression bandage to support her knee healing process and slow the bleeding.

This morning the bandage is still in place. She was able to eat a meal, take all of her meds and stand on her own to relieve herself and have a bowel movement which after surgery is a very big deal.

The hopes are that the bandage stays on until at least Wednesday to give the incision more time to heal and slow/stop bleeding.

After that, we will be in continued surgery recovery until May 15th when she sees the cardiologist for continued heart testing and for more information about how we are going to move forward with her heart conditions.

I, as her helicopter, mom who has been sleeping on the floor in my office with her since surgery, can provide an update too. I was able to finally sleep through the night, without needing to carry her outside, or address emergency bleeding. The air mattress definitely helps. So I’m happy and hopeful that she is finally on the mend ❤️‍🩹 🤞🏻 here’s to no more surprises.

Karma update

The scar tissue from her TPLO surgery they had to cut through to remove the hardware in this recent surgery is bleeding at the incision site. Scare tissue often less cooperative with healing ❤️‍🩹

With her additional heart issues and low blood pressure the continued bleeding caused concern not only for her knee but her vitals so she was admitted and monitored by her cardiologist and surgeon.
They placed staples over her stitches for added support, and a compression bandage to slow bleeding.

She is now home and I have to ensure the bandage does not get wet for the next few days. As well as monitoring the bandage to track the bleeding. If all goes to plan the bandage will be removed at her recheck Wednesday. Still looking at a 6 week recovery ❤️‍🩹

Sessions for today and tomorrow have been canceled. Please see individual messages for rescheduling purposes. Once again thank you all for your understanding and patience.

At seven this morning, I woke up to give Karma her medication that has to be taken on an empty stomach and noticed that her bandage was filled with blood. I took the bandage off and she had a slight ooze of blood from her incision.

I took pictures and emailed the surgery clinic and they said that they would get back to me once the surgeon could review it at nine I got up to get her her breakfast and she didn’t wanna eat at 10 o’clock. I gave her her meds that needs to be taken with food. Despite the fact that she hadn’t eaten because they were overdue, and I didn’t want her to go without her heart and pain meds.

She stood up and a pocket of blood burst and blood on the carpet in the dog bed in her pen area so I called Summit and they had me rush her in and met me in the parking lot to admit her to the hospital.

The bleeding has returned to a slower ooze, and they believe that the scar tissue is resisting healing and bleeding underneath the skin causing pockets of blood that burst when the pressure gets to be too much.

Ultimately, she is not hemorrhaging and therefore is not an emergency in that sense. However, with her heart problem and her heart working overtime and having constant shallow heart beats and low blood pressure they are concerned about the continuous bleeding causing additional problems.

Surgery is monitoring her and draining the pockets and cleaning the wound and debating between doing a staple for added support or taking the risk of putting her under anesthesia opening the incision and trying to re-suture with a different method of sutures to help with the scar tissue….
They are also contemplating a compression bandage to help with the bleeding and blood pressure issues.

They said she will likely be there all day today but at least the cardiologist is in the building and if she has additional heart problems due to the blood loss and low blood pressure and overworking of her heart, she is on standby

OMG it worked !
Warmed bone broth over redbarn canned stew!! first thing Karma has eaten in over 36 hours and she ate half a can! She had to fast prior to surgery and then was in the hospital for over 13 hours. Has been home now for almost 15, but I still couldn’t get her to eat until this combination and I had offered her everything in my house that was safe for a dog to eat and then had more people deliver additional options.

Of course, she made me scoop it out of the bowl into my hand and eat it out of my hands, which was a very gross feeling, but I would do anything for this dog and I am so happy.

So grateful for my village !

Two of my colleagues are covering some of my clients so that my business doesn’t have to stop completely. One of my friends/ clients is bringing me extra supplies for Karma, anither friend made and delivered cookies for me, and another friend friend is bringing me an air mattress, so that I don’t have to keep sleeping on the floor. My hubby checks on me regularly and helps when he doesn’t have to be at work. 💜

The community I have here means the world to me. Thank you all for your support during this hard time.

And as a dog owner and dog trainer, I try and keep up-to-date on canine nutrition, and the best options in kibble. For the past month I have been testing out switching my dogs over to the red barn, whole grain beef and fish recipes. The nutrients to value ratio is good and if you want to learn more I recommend using the non-biased third-party dogfoodadvisor.com. All that to said after this experience, I am convinced. It’s a five star all ages, all breed dog food and the only thing my sweet baby wanted to eat while she feels terrible.

Thank you for the well wishes and regards to Karma recovery. She did have some complications and she is unfortunately not where I would like her to be with recovery today so I also appreciate your patience when it comes to scheduling and availability as I may need to take some extra time home with her.

Hopefully as she wakes up more today and some of the sedatives wear off, she will regain an appetite and be able to have food in her stomach for her medication’s to avoid complications with stomach ulcers. What she’s had in the past and recovery will return to normal.

She has turned down every kibble, treat, meal topper, canned food, deli meat, and every dog safe food in my house … However, she did drink water so an amazing human is bringing her bone broth and goats milk to see if we can get some nutrients in her with liquids. Iv made and bottle fed pups formula before and will do anything for her.

However, if she’s unable to eat or has any stomach problems that require us to return to the hospital, I may have to cancel sessions for this Friday and Saturday that are currently scheduled. I really appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding as I may need to take additional time off to care for her.

After complications and 13 hours in the hospital she is home 💜

6 week’s surgery recovery ❤️‍🩹
Two pain meds and antibiotics for her knee
Two new meds for her heart
A follow up with cardiology and a heart monitor

She is home she is safe… but she will be living with a very fragile heart and on medication to help it support her big body the rest of her life. Definitely a shorter life expectancy because of it as well ... hopefully no more complications but as I know all
too well and over working weak heart usually leads to other problems down the line as her body tries to keep up. Fortunately for her she has a momma with multiple heart problems and lots of cardiology knowledge / experience, so she couldn’t be in better hands 💜

Karma has Dilated cardiomyopathy which means her heart muscle has formed irregularly and is not putting out enough blood volume for her body and is cause low blood pressure.
She also has a heart murmur and an arrhythmia, and the arrhythmia stems from a condition similar to but not quite ventricle tachycardia. It could escalate into ventricle tachycardia, so she will be medicated for that as well, and have a follow up in three weeks.

All that said the anesthesiologist is still going ahead with surgery. She went under around 1:30 today. They said the surgery should be short to remove the hardware in her knee and clean out the infection and then pick up hopefully will be around 5 o’clock tonight if all goes well. She will come home with a new meds and heart monitor she has to wear for a few days … too much like her momma 💜

Sadly I need to share an update. Last week Fable went into preterm labor. She was at least a week and a half early by our estimations. Unfortunately, since she was so early none of the puppies made it. One miracle boy was with us for a few days despite being born prior to when lungs finish developing in puppies. He was given round the clock attention and care, but while we tried our best, we knew his chances were slim. We lost him early Wednesday morning 💔 I have been heartbroken and worn out, so thank you for respecting my need for some space.

Fable seems to be doing well all things considered and seems to be remaining healthy. We are respecting that nature has other plans that don’t include Fable being a mother. She will be spayed and continue to be my pampered pooch 💜

Thank you all for your understanding and willingness to reschedule so many appointments last week at such short notice. I appreciate all of you

As most of you know, my life is a little bit hectic right now. I just can’t express how grateful I am for having the freezer space to meal prep 22 topples, 4 Puppsicles, and 6 Licki bowls with room to spare! Being able to prep in advance allows me to make sure my dogs meal times are fun and easy despite me being half asleep and in a hurry most mornings 💜
