Hi everyone. This is gonna be a bit of a long post but very revealing so please bear with us.
Last year, we had a Parvo outbreak, all our dogs were vaccinated by our vet except one, Valerian. He had been vaccinated by his breeder’s vet, we believe, and was two weeks away from his first annual shot with us when the outbreak happened.
He caught Parvo and passed away (we believe because of malpractice at the vet but what would you even do about that? We rushed him in and they said he had a low temperature and then sent a nurse in to give him fluids and she put nearly a pound of cold water in him via SubQ and we could never get him warm after that. He passed within 3 hours.)
One of our puppies said goodbye to his mom on the way out the door to his new home and he too caught it, but he lived!
About a month later, Poppy went in for her vaccine updates and they gave her a leptospirosis vaccine.
She died from it.
No bloody stool (so not Parvo), no signs of illness, she was just not moving when we called her name, she was laying outside on the dog bed in the shade a couple days after the vaccine, so we went to check on her and she was gone.
We rehomed everyone except Johanna, Chew (Vivienne’s puppy who is spayed) and Buster, our old neutered man.
We will be showing Johanna, and hope to have a litter with her later this year but we are still skeptical. Because of the green belt we live on, animals like Raccoons bring Parvo into our yard.
We are tired of losing family members, so it is very hard to know how to move forward.
Lots of other breeders had Parvo last year as well, and lots of people retired or downsized, so we know it is not necessarily something we did wrong, we are very clean, our dogs have their own hard no one is allowed in except them etc. but we canna control the wild life.
More personally, we have been diagnosed with Dissociative Identity Disorder by a doctor who specializes in it. If you would like to know more about it, you can read about it here: https://www.thecenterforgrowth.com/tips/what-is-dissociative-identity-disorder
It can make things complicated, as our different parts don always agree, and some parts view breeding dogs completely differently. We also have severe memory issues, and forget huge chunks of our life, people, and even familiar places because different parts of us hold different memories.
We also realized we are trans 🏳️⚧️ after 20 years of repressed feelings.
It took a very safe, comfortable environment for us to be able to realize this stuff and get the therapy we needed.
We want to thank all our friends and family for understanding and being there for us through these revelations.
These life events are not excuses for our disappearance from the breeding world, but explanations. For a large part of 2023 we hardly knew who we were, and were living two very different lives, switching between parts.
We are unsure if that will happen again but through therapy we are working on managing switches and communicating with each other so we can assess our needs and feelings.
We know this is all very personal. We usually keep our personal life separate from SunChime Skyes so as to be seen as some well put together and working engine but to be honest, that is a part of us that struggles heavily with trust issues, perfection and understanding the intentions of others, which is super critical in the dog breeding scene 😂 We are just gonna do our best to be us now and hopefully regain our memories of all our canine experiences.
We are sorry for being gone. We want to go to some spring and summer shows with Jo, and hopefully attend Dachsand this year lol for the first time 💀
We go by Edekial (rhymes with Medical) or Edek (Medic) now. Thank you!
In layman’s terms DID is mental health disorder in which a person experiences extreme dissociation to the point where they have different personalities known as alters or parts. First, a person must have at least two or more alters or different personality states. Sometimes the different alters an...
