We haven’t posted anything in quite a while and we have a lot of catching up to do. We’re going to start with the beautiful Mustang Tesla ❤️Tesla had a really rough start in the human world, she was completely misunderstood, and eventually labeled as unfit, unsafe, and needing to be euthanized. Her owner at the time decided to try to make some money off of her and sold her to Sunnyside feedlot. This ended up being the best thing that could’ve happened to her as she was brought to the attention of some caring humans who were actually able and willing to help her develop into the amazing Horse that she truly is. After receiving lots of decompression and downtime, she was sent to several months of training, which brought out her ability as a magnificent trail horse. Tesla is now living in central Oregon with her loving human Sarah, living her best life.

Pablo has finally completed hoof trimming 101!😊 This is HUGE! For those of you not familiar with Pablo’s story, this beautiful boy was used as a Tripping Horse in a Rodeo. This barbaric practice that some humans find entertaining often kills the animals involved. Those who are “lucky” enough to survive are severely traumatized, sometimes permanently. Getting Pablo to be anywhere around ropes without panicking, and allowing his legs and feet to be touched has been a long, often discouraging journey. But here we are❤️ Look how relaxed he is…. This puts Pablo one giant step closer to being Adoptable. We know his perfect Home is out there somewhere, just waiting for him to be ready. He’s getting so close…

Halo is such a lovebug❤️ She is free to roam the property during the day along with her posse of 4 minis. Halo loves to nibble grass and go visiting with the other horses. But when she sees some humans she always walks over for some petting and kisses. Halo was not treated well in her past life, but she has chosen to forgive and move on. We could all learn so much from this girl. Sweetest mare we’ve ever met🥰

RIP Oscar..💔
You we’re so loved, by so many.
Oscar was recently adopted after having spent 2 1/2 years here at the rescue. He went to a lovely new home with his best donkey friend Scamp. He had settled in and was so happy. And then July 4th happened. The neighbors of his new home put on their backyard Fireworks show. Oscar running in sheer terror from noises he didn’t and couldn’t understand broke his neck. This should not of happened. Oscar spent the first nine years of his life in horrible circumstances. It was obvious he had spent very little time outside, that he had been locked in a stall. He didn’t really understand what affection was or being touched. His halter had grown into his face -we had to literally cut it off of him. He was neglected and left alone for years and then dumped at a livestock auction. When we got him we were committed to changing all that. Oscar thrived under the care and attention he received. He was kind, smart, loving and so much fun to be around. Oscar loved life to the fullest. He loved humans, he loved all other animals. Oscar was the one we always put new animals in with because he was so gentle with them. He made them feel safe and welcomed. He should have lived a very long and happy life. He deserved at least that. The impact we humans cause by the irresponsibility and selfishness of our actions is overwhelming. Fireworks. When will people understand the impact fireworks have on so many. The terror and devastation fireworks cause not only to our domestic animals but our wildlife. How in the world is it worth it? Our hearts are broken Trying to grasp what happened to Oscar…
He was one of a kind💔

Finding loving, responsible homes for the Equines that we Rescue is part of our job. But sometimes it is the hardest part of our job … saying goodbye to these two lovely boys is both heartwarming and heartbreaking. A cascade of feelings and memories has been playing through my mind for the past two weeks, knowing that their time with us is nearing its end. . My heart is full that these two will remain together….but there is also an enormous sense of loss. They will be so missed 💔 Oscar and Scamp came in with no confidence, scared and nervous. They leave here knowing who they are, full of confidence and enjoying life being Equines. They are healthy and happy and have become the best of friends. Scamp the Mini came to us all the way from Texas while Oscar was an Oregon donkey. Neither had known love from humans or had any training. During their 2+ years here they formed an amazing bond that we knew had to be honored - that they needed to be kept together. Thanks to Kate Beardsley and Mustangs to the Rescue for playing Matchmaker and help to find the perfect home for the boys.

“30 is the new 20” says the beautiful Miss Halo. This lovely senior continues to outshine her younger companions ❤️ sweetest mare you’ll ever meet. Not sure who was luckier that day we saw her abandoned at the feedlot…her or us. We love her to pieces and are in awe of her ability to let go of a sad past, choosing to live her life to the fullest. You can learn a lot from an old horse….

Little Bandit is getting ready to start interviewing Humans to find his new home❤️ Bandit is 3.5 years old. He is currently just over 11H and still has some growing to do. He is gentle and kind. While still young and playful, he is very calm and level headed. We think Bandit would be a fantastic cart pony. Bandit is truly a clean slate. Though he was neglected as a baby, he has shown zero signs of physical abuse. He is curious and funny and smart🥰 He is a true Medicine Hat pony. If you think you might be the right Human for Bandit, contact us for a meet.

Henry was Adopted! ❤️ This lovely little man had such a hard life, and experienced so many things that a sweet boy should never have to experience. Henry is one of the gentlest and forgiving souls we’ve ever met. It took a LONG time to get him to let go of his distrust, but once he did every day with him was like opening the biggest, most beautifully wrapped present under the Christmas tree. He has landed in the perfect Home for him 🥰 He loves and trusts Rachael, his new Human, and has bonded well with his new Horse Buddy. They dressed up together for the Holidays and Henry accompanied his new friend to their Farrier appointment lending much needed moral support😊 We are so happy for this sweet boy in his new Life. …

We just had to join in on the Snow Day pictures 😊 Everyone is finally able to get out and enjoy it today. Here are a few of the Hooligans. FYI, Halters are on intentionally because when we let a large group out together they can be little devils when it comes time to go back into their pens 😆 Total mayhem, but totally worth it

Nash was Adopted ❤️ We’ve had some really spectacular Adoptions this year, but Nash, the last of our Sheldon Mustangs, will always be very near and dear to our Hearts. Nash traveled all the way to Oregon from South Dakota in his Mamas belly during the extreme winter storm of December 2016. He was born here at the ranch on earth day, May 2017. It has been quite a journey with this young man. The first couple months he was such a sweetheart and then he went to being a little Hellion! Biting us and jumping up on our backs and just being a little hooligan😆 He soon grew out of that phase, and became a gentle, curious and willing soul. Spending over four years with him, working with him and watching the changes he’s gone through as he’s grown up has been quite a gift to be a part of it all. His new family adores and appreciates him fully. Best part is he’s only an hour away so we can visit them 😊

Elliot is loving his new home in Central Oregon! April sent some photos of Elliot and his new buddy Lukas. Lukas is going through some desensitizing and April says that Elliot is always right there to support Lukas and show him how to be a brave boy😊 Lukas is learning to stand tied and be tarped out, and Elliot is right by his side. This is a big deal because when Elliot first arrived any time he was asked to do something he deemed frightening he would literally jump over the person holding or leading him, like a wild goat. Now he’s helping others…Thank you to all who support our work and help equines like Elliot find their way into loving Homes❤️

Oscar has discovered the Apple tree 😆 When it’s not pouring down rain, Oscar travels around the property exploring and nibbling. He has now figured out that he can reach the apples. The ones he can’t reach he gets by shaking the tree branches until they fall to the ground. Smart boy! Oscar spent the majority of his life as a stud, confined to a stall. When he first arrived here he had trouble walking and was very uncoordinated from restricted movement. We had never seen an animal move like he did 😰 Nowadays he can go just about anywhere. When we don’t have time to take him for walks he simply walks himself. He usually has three or four minis along for company and they patrol the ranch at will. We love seeing his confidence grow, he is the most affectionate Donkey. Oh Oscar..❤️

Dickens has been Adopted!❤️ Oh the stories we could tell about this little mule… he is such a character. Dickens was with us for almost 3 years and we were beginning to consider him a sanctuary member. While Dickens can be sweet and willing he can also be very mischievous. We knew that an adopter would need a very good sense of humor to be able to live with Dickens. We were also a bit jaded as far as adoptions. Sadly in May 2020 we actually adopted him to a family. They came wanting to meet Oscar another of our donkeys but the kids were too much for Oscar. Dickens however fell head over heels in love with the children. He allowed them to do anything they wanted and seemed to love their attention. So we allowed him to be adopted by this family. We kept in touch every 6 to 8 weeks checking in, and Lisa would tell us -oh he’s fine everything’s fine it’s going good. Then in March 2021 a good friend and rescue partner sent us a link for the Eugene livestock auction showing a photo of a little white mini mule. At first we just kind of wondered why she sent it and went on about the day. But the next morning decided to check out thinking Tami would only send us something for a reason. Dickens has two very distinctive markings and sure enough they matched. Dickens was being sold at the livestock auction. We had just spoken with Lisa two weeks before We got Tami’s message and Lisa told us again everything was fine Dickens was fine. Turns out she had sold him several months ago and had just lied to us, saying he was still there. Those people in turn sold him and then he was sold again. The next people took him to the auction. We ended up having to go and buy Dickens back to the tune of $1100 😰 when we picked him up in Eugene he acted like he didn’t even know who we were, it was heartbreaking. The saddest thing was seeing the number 16 written in blue on his rump. His auction number. We had to do whatever was necessary to get him back here and make sure that he was in safe hands. Financially it was a huge blow to us as we had to pull money from our Hay funds to buy him back. His halter had been left on for so long that we were concerned the marks might be permanent. This was really confusing and heartbreaking because Dickens is completely halter trained there’s no need to leave his halter on whatsoever. Dickens Was here for six months just getting back to his wonderful mischievous little self when we decided to take him to the Lucky 7 Training Challenge for a meet & greet. We had no expectations of him finding a match we just thought we’d show them off and see what happened. And then Julie and her daughter Alyssa saw him and applied for Adoption. His new owners are totally in love with him and the feeling appears to be mutual. His new family, Julie and Alyssa Are very experienced with not only horses but donkeys and mules, and the way Dickens behaved with them, we just knew he would be in good hands. We miss Dickens so much, but this is part of what we do. And for him this adoption feels right. We’ve received several updates and things are going very well. Dickens has a new best friend and has settled in comfortably. Most important, Julie and Alyssa know of dickens past and he will never ever again end up at a livestock auction

We had such a great time at the Lucky 7 Training Challenge! We met so many wonderful people at the Event❤️ Thank you all for you kindness and support, and your patience. Roxanne Gieseke showed TWO of our horses, a monumental accomplishment. Of the five horses we took to the Challenge, Three have been adopted into wonderful Homes, and one is in a Foster-to-Adopt Home which is going very well😊 Thank you to everyone who supported this Challenge, so many wonderful Rescue Horses found homes! Hosted by Sound Equine Options and their amazing volunteers. Photos by , and a huge thank you to Eagle Fern Equine Hospital

Elliot was Adopted ❤️ His new Human, April, sent us some photos of Elliot and his new bestie🥰 These two boys hit it off instantly despite the size difference. Elliot is now living his best life in Central Oregon! He and April have lots of plans filled with hiking and exploring the beautiful trails in their area next summer . We couldn’t be happier for Elliot, he was adopted into such a kind and loving Home. But we must admit...we miss him. We look forward to visiting him and his new family next summer😊

Ginger was Adopted ❤️ What a crazy journey this sweet mare has had...from falling into the hands of Shawna the notorious horse “flipper” to the sale auction, to the meat buyer in Idaho, then back to Oregon finally to us...and now to a Home with a family that adores her 🥰 Ginger loved this little family from the moment they arrived, and the feeling was mutual. She can now spend her days being part of a family, hanging out with children (she loves that) going on trail rides and super important, overseeing Goat Yoga! As you can see in the photo it’s a job she takes very seriously 😊 For the luckiest mare in the world, we are thrilled that her luck continues. She deserves it. Cheers to Gingers new life with the Campbell family ❤️

We haven’t posted about Henry for a while, so we thought we’d share some updates. He is learning to carry packs now and is a wonderful hiking companion ❤️ He has nice upbeat pace and follows wherever you go ... once he trusts you. Henry still needs lots of handling experience and work on willingly giving his feet. Henry was one of the most traumatized of the minis we’ve taken in. It took several months just to catch him, and then get him to willingly be haltered without attempting to flee. He now stands easily for haltering and leads very well. He finally enjoys being groomed and allows hair braiding and trimming 😆 At 10 years old Henry is finally enjoying being a horse. It’s about time Henry!! We will continue to help him build confidence and seek comfort from humans. We love this little guy...we have learned so much from him. He has really challenged our skill level, and made us better in so many ways.

Tesla’s BLM freeze mark. We have experienced an extreme amount of negativity about this horse today from one individual, so we have decided, for Tesla’s sake, to stand up to the bullying. For all of you who have received private messages from Barbara Kahl regarding this horse, we sincerely apologize. You should not have to deal with this. We listed Teslas age to be 14 years, This information is based solely on her dentals and her BLM freeze mark. We did not walk out into a field one day and randomly come up with a number and declare it to be her age. As far as Tesla having serious physical issues we are standing up to that also. To us it seems completely obvious watching her videos of her jumping and seeing numerous photos of her on the trails, that Tesla is not only physically sound, but she is not operating in a condition of pain. If she were to exhibit pain she would not be ridden. In the 2+ years she has been here we have never seen anything to indicate discomfort. In order to further squash this woman’s mission to discredit Tesla and all of us who have worked so hard to give her a better life, Tesla will be examined the day prior to the Challenge by Eagle Fern Equine. The results of this exam will be made immediately available to anyone who would like to see them. We sincerely hope that Barbara can find something else now to do with her time

It’s time to share Gingers story...This is one very lucky girl ❤️ A little over 2 1/2 years ago there were two horses that were taken to the Eugene livestock auction. This was before they went online, so buyers were much fewer back then. It was easy pickings for Kill buyers and cheaper for them to acquire the horses. One of the horses was a BLM mustang tag #68. The other one was what appeared to be a very thin older mare tag #86. Working in conjunction with Mustangs to the Rescue and Mustangs MEND we were scrambling (on very short notice) to raise the funds to rescue the mustang, knowing because of its history of being “difficult” that it would probably go to a KB (kill buyer/ meat buyer). While working on communicating for fundraising we saw the photo of mare #86. Our hearts immediately went out to this poor girl. We could not stop thinking about her photo 😰. Funds were Nonexistent at that time and we had to stand by feeling beyond helpless as both horses were sold without being able to intervene on their behalf. Late that night we received a call from Tami Fawcett Saying that they had raised money and that she and Kate Beardsley were trying to locate which kill buyer had purchased the mustang. They were determined to save him. I asked “what about the mare” No one knew.... AND THIS IS WHEN IT GETS REALLY INTERESTING
The Mustang was bought by a known Kill buyer in Idaho. The mare was bought by a low-life Dude Ranch owner in California Who buys string horses for summer trail rides. At the end of the season he is known to sell these horses straight to the meat buyers rather than feed the horses through the winter. He then goes to the auction a month before tourist season starts and buys middle aged or older riding horses to use for his trail rides the next season.
It was late at night when the auction yard was loading the horses and the loader misread the numbers ...so.. . The guy in Idaho ended up with #86 when he should’ve had #68. When the California guy went to retrieve his horses the horse he bought, #86 was not on the yard, instead he was looking at an unhandled Mustang. California guy went back home short one horse and Idaho guy had the wrong horse. We called the auction yard the next morning after hearing a rumor this had happened. Due to all the confusion and legalities, neither of the guys wanted to deal with the mess, we were able to buy both horses. Talk about a miracle! 😊 Kate picked up the Mustang, and we were able to get free transport for the mare back to Oregon. Her name is now Ginger and she’s an absolute sweetheart. There is quite a bit more to the story, but will leave it here for now. Ginger is a beautiful 15 yr Red Dun Quarter Horse. Gentle and solid, that anyone can ride. She will be available for Adoption this Saturday October 16th at the Lucky 7 Training Challenge at Mt Hood center. Adopters must have an approved application to adopt. Applications can be found on our website Allaboutmustangs.org. This Event will showcase several rescue horses in Oregon, and is hosted by Sound Equine Options

Beauty and Power....these are the two words that always come to mind when watching Tesla. She is the epitome of what most people think of when hearing the words “America’s Wild Mustangs” Strong, independent, resourceful and amazingly athletic. Tesla can take on absolutely anything, if she is partnered with the right human. Tesla had a heartbreakingly difficult introduction to the world of humans. Let down in the worst possible way she was adopted and then dumped at the Sunnyside feedlot kill pen by her own TIP trainer, along with her beautiful companion mare Maddy. Both mares were rescued and have gone on to live amazing lives. Tesla is so incredibly forgiving. She is gentle, loving and kind. She needs a confident, gentle human to continue her journey. We always suspected she could be a good XC eventing horse and she did not disappoint! Roxanne pointed her at the jump for the first time and she eagerly took it. She loads and unloads from trailer perfectly, and stands perfectly for farrier. She has amazing feet and does not need shoes. Though easy to handle Tesla has a powerful motor. She is not a beginners horse. She will require an advanced intermediate horseman who can continue to build her confidence and exposure to new experiences. This amazing Mustang can and will take you anywhere you want to go. Tesla will be showing her talents this weekend on October 16th at Lucky 7 Training Challenge at the Mt Hood Center, where she will be available for adoption. If you are interested in bidding on Tesla get your adoption application in for approval!! The application can be downloaded from our website Allaboutmustangs.org Thank you to Sound Equine Options for hosting this Event!

ADOPTED ❤️
Oh Elliot ...🥰 Elliot is a 4 year old mini gelding who is ready for Adoption! Elliot loves to go for walks and is always willing to carry your lunch 😊 He has a slower pace than some of our other mini hiking buddies, but will keep up on the distance, and thoroughly enjoys going exploring. Elliot tapes at 35”. He can be a bit difficult to catch until he gets to know you, but he has never run away, he just tries to move a few feet ahead of you. Once he knows and trusts you this is not a problem. He is gentle and affectionate with an easygoing disposition. Elliot tends to be a bit lazy, but gets right up with you once he knows you’re in work/ hike mode. He is a true gentleman for the farrier and enjoys grooming. He loads right into the trailer and will stand tied to anything patiently. Elliot has a very slight roach back and is not being trained as a riding mini. He would make a lovely cart pony as he has the quiet disposition for safe pulling. Elliot will be strutting his stuff at the Lucky 7 Training Challenge at Mt Hood Center on October 16th. He will be available for adoption at the event!! Adopters must have an approved application to take Elliot home. The application can be downloaded from our website at Allaboutmustangs.org He is currently located in southern Oregon. Contact us for more info on Elliot. This event is hosted by Sound Equine Options

Sharing some more footage of the beautiful Ginger ❤️ Ginger is the type of horse that anybody can ride. She is beyond tolerant. For now she is basically a point and go type of horse, not much finesse in her training as far as arena riding . ( We will explain why that happened on another post) Roxanne is trying to get caught up and prepare her as best she can for the challenge, thankfully Ginger is such a kind hearted mare and she is really trying her best to learn!! If you are looking to add a sweet, gentle, extremely kind horse to your family Ginger might be exactly what you are looking for 😊 Ginger Will be available for adoption on October 16 at the Lucky 7 Training Challenge. You must be preapproved in order to bid on her or any of the rescue horses presented at the event. Please contact us for more information about Ginger. Thank you to Sound Equine Options for hosting this Event, Which will allow these rescue horses to show their stuff!!

Ginger is a beautiful red Dunn mare, she’s as gentle as they come. Aged at 15-16 yrs by vet, Ginger is steady and reliable on the trails, and has a kind disposition. Not much fazes this girl! Although she lacks finesse in the arena, she more than makes up for that with her easy-going, willing personality. Ginger will be available for adoption at the Lucky 7 Training Challenge sponsored by Sound Equine Options on October 16th. Ginger is currently in Ashland Oregon. ⭐️UPDATE ON BANDIT⭐️. Since we were already at the Eagle Fern Veterinary this afternoon we asked the Dr for an opinion on aging Bandit. He Aged him at approximately 2 1/2 which is what our origional Vet had said last year. We apologize for the confusion but in all honesty we have been really confused ourselves!!
Bandit is seriously one special little guy ❤️ This little Medicine Hat gelding is the kindest, gentlest pony we’ve ever met. He will do anything you ask him to do as long as he understands what you’re asking. Not your typical pony. He is calm, quiet, and beyond patient. He is learning to wear all kinds of gear, we would love to see him as a cart pony but we are also preparing him for saddle wearing. He is not trained to ride yet as he is still growing and gaining muscle. He stands perfectly for the farrier, loads right into the trailer, and ties for as long as you need him to tie. He ponies off big horses, as well as lawnmowers and tractors. He gets along fine with dogs and he is a wonderful hiking companion. Bandit had a very rough start in his life but has been thriving since we took him in here a little over a year ago. So far he gets along with all of his paddock mates whether they’re other ponies, donkeys or large horses. He is looking for a home that will take him on outings and expose him to new experiences without overly exerting him (riding) in this next year, Allowing him to continue growing and building muscles slowly. Bandit will be showcasing his delightful personality and his talents at the upcoming Lucky 7 Training Challenge sponsored by Sound Equine Options on October 16th at Mt Hood Center. Bandit will be available for adoption at the event!! Bandit is currently in southern Oregon. You can download an adoption application from our website Allaboutmustangs.org

ADOPTED ❤️
Dickens is an adorable 5 yr old mini Mule gelding. He is doing well with his backpack training and absolutely loves to hike around the ranch seeking new adventures. He leads, loads, ties and stands for farrier too! He can be the sweetest boy in the world, but he is mischievous by nature. Dickens has been ridden in the past while on a lead line, but is not being offered as a riding mule as training for this has not been our focus. He can go in many directions, but for now is a hiking companion or trail riding buddy. Dickens will be showcasing his talents at Lucky 7 Training Challenge sponsored by Sound Equine Options on October 16th at Mt Hood center. He will be available for adoption at the Event. Come check out all the lovely rescue horses and ponies that will be there available for adoption. Message us for more info on Dickens. Dickens is currently in southern Oregon. You can download an adoption application from our website at Allaboutmustangs.org

PONYPALOOZA!! 🤣😆 This is a pretty typical sight here at the ranch right around 5 o’clock. Trying to figure out where they all went? What they’re up to? ...And how to get them back into their pen for supper😆 Thought you’d enjoy seeing what a typical afternoon “roundup“ looked like, at least AAM’s version. Never a dull moment around here !!

We took Bandit and Elliot for a hike today Introducing them to breast collars for the first time. We currently only have one crupper so we decided to keep it super simple. Both of the boys love adventures and hiking! They carry their backpacks well and we plan on introducing them to an actual packsaddle when we can get one. For now we trade off with different types of gear and items on their backs, they are now very comfortable with new items and confident in new situations and surroundings. Both are total sweethearts and looking for loving, adventurous Homes ❤️

Tesla is doing amazing with her trainer Roxanne. These two are working hard together preparing for the Lucky 7 training challenge sponsored by Sound Equine Options !😊 Preparing for the challenge has been quite a challenge in itself considering all the smoke in Ashland this summer. But these two are doing their best with the weather they are dealt with, and whenever there’s a clear day they are all over it! We are hoping to get some mountain rides in soon so we can show off Teslas amazing ability as a trail horse as well as an Endurance horse. You can also follow Roxanne and Teslas progress on their page Tesla the Mustang. Tesla will be available for adoption on October 16 at the Lucky 7 challenge which will be held in Mount Hood this year. Huge Thank You to Laura Stutesman for her unwavering support, and for allowing us to train at your beautiful facility Rising Hope Stables in Ashland Or ❤️
