I have something to say; that really needs to be said. Everyone on this page is here because they either have a yorkie, or they want one.
For the ones that have one or more, or maybe you’re looking to welcome a new one in to your family because you lost one. You know what they cost. You know how the breed is. Their temperament, their good and bad habits (potty training). You know all of this and you are still wanting to share your life with one of these amazing little dogs.
For the ones looking to be a first time yorkie owner. Read up on the breed before making the commitment. Know what it could possibly cost to have one as a family member. Vet, groomer, puppy pads, etc. And above all, before you ask the amount for a puppy, or even an adult dog, know that it is VERY VERY unlikely that you will find one for anything less than $700 with a ckc registration and nothing less than $1000-1200 for AKC. Those are the low prices. These dogs, depending on the area you are getting them from, their coloring, or their pedigree can be up to $3500-5000.
Know this before you come with the sad stories about how:
1) I was hoping for cheaper because I lost my baby.
2) I was hoping to get one for my kid. (BTW, these dogs are too fragile for small children or toddlers).
3) That’s out of my price range, could you accept lower?
4) I got scammed so I can’t afford that much now.
For a lot of breeders, this is their income. This is how they feed their family. For others, the high price tag is a little more assurance that the animal will be well taken care of. I know I wouldn’t spend that kind of money on an animal and not treat it well and give it the best care possible.
So if you are looking into buying your first yorkie, and you aren’t ready to pay for it, stop looking!
Scammers: there is an old saying, if it looks too good to be true, it probably is. In other words use common sense. Scammers usually lower the price of their “dogs” to draw you in to the more thrifty buy. Never send ANY MONEY until you have at least video chatted with the person and have seen the dog. Get references on a breeder if they say they are established.
I am not saying any of this to hurt anyone’s feelings, I’m simply stating the facts. My other breeders on the page, feel free to add anything I may have missed.
