Update on Publix grocery manager who walked a mile Wednesday morning in freezing weather so he could answer phones and turn people away because Publix was going to be closed. His name is John Brannon, he is the grocery manager. But also wanted to say he walks with a cane because he has a bad knee.

Let's call the store Manager, Mr Alan Bethancourt, and let him know we appreciate John.

UPDATE:

Dear Clients:

This was truly an unprecedented storm for Tallahassee, and we remain concerned that, while major roads seem pretty clear at this point, as of sunset there was still lots of melting snow and ice on secondary roads all throughout Leon County. We are very afraid that, with frigid temperatures overnight, travel will be treacherous in the morning on those secondary roads. For that reason, we have decided to delay opening until noon tomorrow - roads should be safe by then! Please stay safe everyone!

Dear Clients:

Given the huge blanket of ice that fell everywhere last night, the cold temperatures that are going to slow its exit today, and out of deference to our first responders who are encouraging everyone to stay home if at all possible while conditions outside are assessed, we have made the decision to remain closed today.

As with hurricane events, we had a crew spend the night last night, so the animals in the hospital are in good hands.

We hope to be open on a normal schedule tomorrow and will send out a new alert if that has to change for some reason.

In the meantime, stay safe everyone!

Snowy, icy roads and continued freezing temps have created EXTREMELY dangerous roadway conditions. TPD urges residents to stay off the roads for their safety and for the safety of emergency responders.

✨ Meet our Pet of the Week: Stevie! ✨

This sweet 6-year-old girl has been through so much, but her resilience and loving nature shine through every day! Stevie was abandoned at the Tallahassee Museum in 2020, discovered hungry and meowing in the turtle enclosure. Despite losing half her weight and being left behind, this brave girl survived, and her new mom couldn’t resist giving her a forever home.🥰

Named after the legendary Stevie Nicks, Stevie is a total trooper. She loves to cuddle in your lap for hours, play in the smallest of boxes (the smaller, the better!), and has an adventurous spirit—despite losing her vision. After some retinal and corneal deterioration, Stevie has gone blind, but that hasn't slowed her down one bit. She still gets into everything, chewing on papers, books, and anything she can find to entertain herself.❤❤

Stevie’s journey from survival to being a loved and, well-adjusted cat has been an incredible one, and she has truly changed her mom’s life for the better. She has always been the sweetest lady to anyone she meets! 🌷

🐾 Introducing Daisy Mae, our Pet of the Week!🐾🌼

Say hello to Daisy Mae, the sweetest bundle of joy! 💖 This little cutie loves an occasional sweet treat of Skittles, as well as any kayaking adventure! Daisy Mae is also always available to roll around in the grass. But the best part? She’s a true cuddly queen and loves to snuggle up with her 13-year-old human brother every night. 🌙

Each morning, Daisy Mae is always ready to take on a new day with pure excitement which she is more than willing to share with her family, skipping happily down the hallway! 🐾✨

Daisy Mae is one of four adopted dogs in her loving family, and she’s truly a survivor. She came to Leon County Humane Society with some serious medical issues, but with the help of her incredible foster family, she overcame every obstacle she faced! 💪 After winning their hearts, they couldn’t bear to let her go and decided to make her part of their family forever. Daisy Mae brings a smile to anyone she meets. 🏡💕

Miss Holly is one of the sweetest lady who’s always ready to steal your heart! 💕 This charming lady is especially a fan of car rides with her nose out the window, enjoying the breeze on her face. 🚗 She’s a well-mannered lady who loves her walks around the neighborhood, making every outing a joy!

Holly’s favorite pastime? Playing with her crinkle toys! She’ll toss them around and entertain herself for hours, even if no one is around to participate. When it comes to affection, she’s all about receiving attention – the more, the better! 😍

But there’s one special person Holly adores more than anyone: her families grandson, Ledger! 🌟He spoils her with the occasional treat, and Holly is more than happy to accept those snacks. 🐾

Introducing the legendary, Stitch, a sweet little tuxedo kitten, now available for adoption through the Leon County Humane Society! He is currently being fostered by one of our staff members.🐾 This little distinguished gentlemen is a bundle of joy, packed with hours of fun and love to give. Whether he’s chasing springy toys or having a snack, Stitch is always up for a good time! 🐈‍⬛🌼

He’s got the best of both worlds—super playful yet laid-back. When he’s not getting his zoomies out, you’ll find him snuggled up for a nap, purring especially loud when he gets attention. And trust us, this guy LOVES affection—any pets or cuddles will have him purring with happiness! 😻

Stitch is also great with all kinds of pet siblings, so if you have other furry friends at home, he’ll fit right in! He's currently estimated to be around 14 weeks old so he's got plenty of time to grow!🐾
