LETS talk about Radicchio A2287037. This Labby girl came in as a STRAY, petrified and on a control pole. Her fears have been so evident that she refused to respond to staff or volunteers and attempts to hide in the corner of her kennel and just disappear. When its her turn to go outside for potty or playtime she pancakes and has to be carried outdoors.
Volunteers have been working with her and she's had a slight breakthrough. She put her little head in a volunteers lap and even began to follow them. For a fear filled pup this is huge!!!
She definitely needs out of the shelter environment. A home like environment would assure this scared girl that not all people suck!!! How we wish these souls could talk and tell us what happened to them.
She is listed as a 4 year old Labby weighing 70lbs. She is HW POS and came in with an extended belly so further testing is def needed for her.
If you can open up your home and hearts to give this girl some time to decompress and build up her confidence she is so deserving ๐

3/03/23 13:55 Volunteer Note: "I opened her kennel door wide open (prior to leashing her) and she walked out then jogged over to the door for the public to enter the kennels. I was able to leash her and walk her to the exit door towards the AD yards but as soon as i opened the door she pancaked. I applied some leash pressure to get her out between the door and into the AD yard. I took the leash off and she peed. She cruises around the yard and laid down. I sat next to her and she allowed me to pet her all over. (She has the softest, cleanest coat!) She has the softest, cleanest coat!) She would not take treats. I had to carry her back to her kennel." 03-MAR-23 - Interact - 03/03/23 15:11 Volunteer Note: Radicchio (A2287037) was very shy and shutdown. I went into her kennel and sat with her head and paws on my lap for a while; then got her to exit the kennel. Staff entered the area and she laid down, refusing to move. I got her back inside into the same position to give her affection and comfort. After some time, I got up to leave. She pressed her head against my leg and curled her paws around me, not wanting me to leave. No one was in the kennel area; so opened the door wide and stepped back, asking if she wanted to take a walk. She stood up and slowly exited the kennel, letting me leash her. She followed me out the door and toward the bench area outside vet services. As we neared the area, two staff people were coming up the sidewalk and one exited the main door behind her. She became startled, laying down and refusing to move. Once everyone left, she tentatively got up to sniff the turf area, finding a good bathroom spot. She then lay down again, wanting to stay out getting pets, not return to her kennel. I got her back to her kennel with assistance in getting her to walk. Vet staff refreshed her kennel and gave her a bowl of food. She entered the kennel, standing next to the door eating when we left. She is extremely shy and very affectionate; showing no negative behavior whatsoever. MW

Staff Notes
28-FEB-23 - Behavior - 02/28/23 18:25 Staff approached the kennel and the dog was laying inside her kennel. The dog did not approach the gate and when staff stepped into the kennel she went to the back corner. Staff was able to leash her without issues but she pancaked in the kennel and did not want to her moving but she flopped once outside the kennel. Another staff member got a leash under her belly to help lift her up to walk outside. Once in the yard she sat next to the fence and did not move. Staff brought in two other dogs to see if she would perk up. The dog sniffed the other dogs but did not move to greet them. Staff was able to pick the dog up and carry her back to kennel without issue. The dog is shutdown and not walking. Staff needs to go slow with her and put her in a cart to move her around. The wellness team will continue to work with her. - AA

27-FEB-23 - Interact - 02/27/23 10:09 Staff member was able to walk into the kennel without issue. The dog in kennel was seen facing away from staff member, tail tucked, ears pinned back and head was lowered. Staff member was able to put the leash around the dogs neck without issue. When the leash was placed around the dogs neck, the dog began to urinate and defecate on herself. Staff member was able to walk her out of the kennel using leash pressure. When staff member attempted to guide the dog to walk on leash, the dog began to gator roll and throw her body into the fencing and into the ground. Staff member
had to utilize another leash to place on the dog due to the fact the dog began to wrap the original leash around her neck tightly while gator rolling. Staff member called for sedation to be used so the dog could be brought to the surgery area safely.
