Common Cause for an Urgent Care Emergency Cat Visits: Linear Foreign Body
Thin objects like yarn, hair ties, or string can easily be ingested by cats when playing around the house, but however small, they can cause major issues for your pet's health. In the case that the object becomes lodged in the cat's GI tract instead of passing, serious complications can ensue.
Signs to watch out for:
-Loss of appetite
-Vomiting
-Dehydration
-Lack of energy
-Abdominal discomfort
-Hiding in the home
If you notice any of these symptoms in your cat, contact your vet and bring them in to be examined as soon as possible.
How to Prevent:
-Safely dispose of items like floss, string, packaging, ribbon, etc. in closed trash bins
-Avoid leaving hair ties or rubber bands in places where your cat could reach them
-Never let your cat play with strings or yarn without supervision, especially if both ends are loose, and be sure to take them away when done
