We finished our breeding season with our last girl, Merliah. She decided to wait until milking time tonight. She usually greets me at the gate and when I went out she was off on her own cleaning her baby that she had just popped out. Got her moved into a birthing area and laid bedding for them. Gave Merliah grain, hay and water and gave them their space for bonding once we made sure baby nursed. We didn’t have any idea of her due date because we had very naughty boys this year. Another singletonbuck for her (2years in a row) but this one has her blonde color and has so many spots. Full Nubian and ecstatic that we don’t have another Nubian/Alpine cross. Oh and those ears!!! Better pictures to come in the morning.

But now everyone is milked. Bottle babies have had their bottles and off to bed we go to start it all over again a 7am. Luckily it’s a holiday so it’s not 5am like work days!

Lots of babies up for discussion as well as a few does in milk. The kids want to switch direction with our herd. Alpines are taking over! Have a few more but need pictures.

I just want to take a minute to thank Carol Peters for always taking the time to help me. Even though she is so busy with her farm, she always takes time out of her day to help and we go to learn when we can. I have learned so much from her over the past 3 years as well as my kids! I wish I could do more for you than I have with my hectic life recently but your amazing heart doesn’t go unnoticed. You have forever impacted our life and we couldn’t have found a better person to help teach us everything there is to know about dairy goats. You are an AMAZING person!

Loving our babies even though they stress me out! We are 50/50 right now boys/girls. The boys have all the color this year.

Life has been extremely hectic here…. We have downsized quite a bit to only our show girls and the emotional attachments of our OG herd. It’s baby time though. We have 6 babies so far.

Sophia had Nubian buck/doe twins with ears for miles on January 31st

Then yesterday Rylee had her buck/doe twins that are 50% Nubian/ 50% Alpine

Tonight Juniper had Alpine buck/doe twins.

3 more girls to go this season.

We are planning on showing in at least 3 shows this season as well.

Super busy week this week. Rylee had identical twins buck/doe) last Tuesday. She is the first one raised by us from birth until now to have babies here!!! She turned 2 in February so unfortunate Braxton could not show her this year but he is looking forward to showing her and her daughter next year.

Sidney got her steer yesterday for Lake County 2024 show. She is sticking with her Warrior Cat theme and naming him Nightfall. He currently weighs about 530 lbs.

Goats went well last night!

Braxton got 3rd in Showmanship for the Jr. Division.

Both Stetson and Braxton showed in the 12-18 month class and Stetson/Juniper got 4th.

Sidney went in thinking she would be dead last because Sophia does not have an udder yet as she has not freshened. She got 8th out of 17. Not to bad and not close to the end!

Oh and to our surprise, Braxton got 3rd on junior skillathon at the end even though we spent all of our time studying for the wrong categories. All of the kids after the skillathon walked out saying that was the hardest!

Sidney had a great first steer show experience. Very emotional night last night. She has learned so much this year. Now time for goats!

Bringing back memories!!! Sidney’s steer is all settled in to Lake County Fair. This is her first steer. She has learned so much this year and knows what to change next year. He is pretty stressed but is behaving so well for her!

New kids on the block. Lol not really. Merliah is the blonde. She is one of the kids new show girls. We also added an Alpine buck (Pinball Wizard) as Stetson has expanded our Nubian herd into Alpines.

Productive day on the farm!!! Love having my own microscope to do fecals again. Science lab in the kitchen. Great learning tool for the kids… and I don’t have to drive to my amazing mentors house to use hers.

Hay pile up! Almost time for a new block. I gave them some of the buck’s (and girls with him) hay since they were not eating it fast enough and he still has over half of his left.

And Ms. Juniper going through a growth spurt again. Back end is so much taller than her front. She is almost even when standing on the pallet with her front feet.

The kids and I made Goat Milk Soap just in time for Valentines Day. It is scented with Vanilla Rose. They will be selling each bar for $6. They will also be putting together gift baskets. Pictures to come. Limited Supply.

Enjoying their pasture time today! Loving our girls and how they are maturing. We can’t wait for babies this year! Highlight, Corona, Feyre, Sophia, Rylee, River, Rosebud, Cocoa, Edaline, and EllieMae are all on the breeding list this year. A huge jump for us from last year. This will increase our milk supply to make soap. Also hopefully will eliminate most of our milk purchasing.
