Hi Tammy. Carolyn V*** here. You were out here recently and advised to have Dr Zauel look at Gus's p***s for nodule growths. He just left and I'm happy to say he said they were just papillomas. Ok everyone I have a question and looking for input/ & or ideas!!

With vets being few and far between what / and or would you pay for full care of after injury care for your horse???
Full care being stall rest ( big 16x 18 stall with attached small outside paddock ), cleaning wounds ( as many x's necessary) giving medication, hand walking, feeding, watering, would have live camera feed watch, daily pictures/ and or videos updates of healing progress.

Per day ?
Per week ?

I come across so many people without the ability to stall or to even doctor their horses by themselves and between mine and my husband's ( he's a farrier) horse knowledge and experience I think we could definitely handle about every situation we come across!!

Horses need horsemen. It's that simple. I get asked the same questions over and over again and nobody gets it. What level rider is this horse suitable for? I'll tell you, the best one she can get, the best horseman that's willing to buy her. The horse will only ever be as good as the rider. It doesn't matter if it's trained to jump hoops of fire, you're gonna bring it down to your level in no time. Your kid doesn't need a $15,000 horse if they haven't already had $15,000 worth of lessons. You can't buy a violin that will gift you the skill of playing. It's the same for horses. There is no magic horse, only a love for the animal, and a commitment to learning.
Most of you are so unfair and demanding of the horse you miss the forest for the trees. "I want a horse that rides out alone!!" well guess what, you better be ready to spend a year developing that relationship, that bond, that trust, she's not a bike, you can't buy trust.
"I want a horse that can sit and be the same after time off" well friend, this is a commitment to a relationship, not a classic car you take out of the garage twice a year. You can't buy what your looking for.
"I want a horse my kids can ride" you better be ready to teach your kids how to be horseman, because if the horse has to do it, you'll likely see the inside of an ambulance, or a morgue.
You can't buy trust, you cannot buy what comes with building a relationship with an animal over years of dedication.
Horses are a commitment. Training and lessons are essential to keeping a horse and rider at the best of their ability and to help mold that relationship ..

This came out of a mini gelding I cleaned today! The dark brown was crusted sm**ma that had formed a hard layer over the end of the p***s ( completely covering it) , along with one of the biggest beans ( quarter for size comparison) I've ever gotten out of a mini! He definitely will feel so much relief now and I'm sure he's kicking up his heals this evening! 😁

Routine sheath cleaning is so important and very necessary!!

*** SM**MA AND PE**LE CANCER ***

Horse sm**ma has been repeatedly proposed as an important factor causing pe**le cancer. This suggestion is based on one study in which equine sm**ma produced three different types of cancer (papillomas, squamous cell carcinomas and fibrosarcoma) at the site of injection in mice. A second study, which found that while infection with equine papilloma virus may be the initiator of the development of one type of pe**le cancer know as squamous cell carcinoma, sm**ma may also play a role. Geldings appear to be most affected for these types of neoplasms, and accumulation of excessive sm**ma may be a contributing factor. Early diagnosis and treatment are essential for salvaging these organs before lesions become excessively large and invasive or are allowed to metastasize.
Stallions are very rarely affected and this again suggests that sm**ma may be a precipitating factor!
