The Ferrier came out yesterday and Queenie got her feet done for the first time. She did so good I was so proud of her. She is 10 years old and she just learned how to pick up her feet a few months ago. She was really easy and set quite the entire time.

About Queenie:
Queenie came to the bluebonnet in June of 2023 with her foal. We don’t know anything about her past or where she came from. May 8th when I went and picked her up, she was a little nervous with me at first but once I got her haltered she started to relax. She had some trouble trailer loading but after a while we got her in the trailer she was good. Since then I’ve worked on catching and now she meets me at the gate and can’t wait to be haltered. I have her picking up her front feet and I’m working on the back feet. I’ve rode her and started her under saddle for her first time. I have her doing obstacles and I’m teaching her the lay down. I’ve worked with her on trailer loading and she can now be sent in and backed out. She is very smart and learns fast I know she will make a great horse for someone.

About me:
My name is Brooklyn Battenfield and this will be my first time competing in the Bluebonnet expo. I’m in the Non Pro Under Saddle with Queenie.

I’ve been riding horses since I was 5 years old and training horses since I was 11. I’ve competed in two Mustang Tip Challenges and took first in both but this will be my first time competing in a riding challenge.

One way you know a horse fully trusts you is by laying them down. This morning Brooklyn worked with Queenie on her first lay down. It took about 10 minutes before she laid down and Brooklyn hung out with her until she got up about 20 minutes later.

Queenie had never been trimmed or had her feet messed with. She’s doing well with her front feet and will now hold them up for you. But her back feet she’s more sensitive. She has tried to kick out with her back feet before but after some desensitizing she’s done better and hasn’t tried to kick out again.
