Child safety in the car 1950 😮 ❤
Today there are a number of variations of child seats designed to protect the child during the journey and especially in the event of an accident.
In the 1950s, however, the focus was on the child's comfort and visibility, while the aspect of safety was often neglected.
These early child seats were usually simple constructions made of metal and fabric that were little more than a holder for the child. They were attached to the back of the vehicle's seat and did not have their own seat belt.
Some of these seats had a small toy steering wheel that was intended to give the child the feeling of actively participating in the driving. Ultimately, however, the seats were not designed to protect the child in the event of an accident.
The development of child seats has made enormous progress since then. Modern child seats must meet strict safety standards that ensure that the child is adequately secured in the event of an accident.
They are equipped with padded side bolsters, belt systems and shock-absorbing materials that better absorb the forces in an accident.
Because - what was considered practical and entertaining back then would cause an outcry among the population today
Statement: So now imagine you're speeding down the street in your new Cadillac, the little bundle of joy to your right is more or less in his "child seat" - and bang - you have to brake hard because the idiot from the side street simply ignored the right-of-way rules.
So you hammer the brake pedal while you see out of the corner of your eye how Junior is already starting his journey without you and rising to the sky in slow motion in his ejection seat. ^^
