Angel country horse ranch is hiring!

We’re hiring a full-time Equine Ranch Hand.Angel country horse ranch is an 1100-acre ranch that breeds & raises cutting horses and produces up to 1800 ton of orchard grass and alfalfa every year. We have our fair share of four-legged misfits, also!

Please read this ENTIRE post. If you don't submit all the required information, you won't make it to an interview, so this is important.

The Job
Being a Ranch Hand at Angel country horse Ranch is different than a lot of other equine jobs. While you'll do lots of horse stuff, you’ll do lots of other work too. Your primary purpose is to ensure the health and safety of our horses and to keep the Ranch always sparkling and visitor ready.

You need to have strong horse-handling skills on the ground. If you grew up with horses, have worked in a barn, been showing horses for ten years, and that sort of stuff, that's what we're looking for in terms of horse handling experience. If you love horses but haven't spent much time handling them, this is not the job for you. If you don’t have a lot of experience with foals and yearlings, don’t worry! We’ll train you!

Although we wish we could spend all day feeding, grooming, and riding horses, a big part of working at angel country horse ranchis maintaining the beauty and cleanliness of all the barns, paddocks and acreage. You’ll be cleaning stalls and picking paddocks, sweeping, dusting, weeding, mowing, irrigating, and did we mention picking paddocks? There will be p**p to scoop, and bloody wounds to clean up, long hours during foaling season, and unbelievably cute baby horses and mini donkeys to cuddle, and everything in between. Keeping all our barns spotless is hard work. Just putting it out there.

We want someone with really good communication & observation skills, a fair amount of organization and lots of attention to details, and someone who is a good self-manager. Once you're trained, there's no one to go behind you and make sure you did all the stuff. We're looking for a dependable, self-motivated individual who doesn't need someone to micro-manage them.

A lot of this job takes place outside. It will be hot, or cold, and humid, or wet, or snowy and most certainly windy and all the things that come with working outside.

The Culture
Our culture at Angel country horse ranch is more important to us than anything else. We can teach you how to be a Ranch Hand, but we can't teach you how to be an awesome person and team member. Because of that, we hire for character. If you have the requisite horse handling experience, we don't care if you don't know the difference between caudal vs cranial. We're much more concerned about your awesomeness quotient and your ability to contribute to a positive, high-producing, tight-knit team.

Your personality is really important, and that doesn't just mean that you're friendly and get along with everyone. If you see a twenty-minute gap in your workday as an opportunity to get caught up on Facebook instead of finding something that needs to be done (and there's always something that needs to be done), you won't last long here. Our team members are hardworking, self-motivated, amazing people who never need to be prompted to go do something, and they won't tolerate slacking in a teammate.

Part of having a great culture is not having any toxic people on our team. It only takes one person to make everyone miserable, and we will not tolerate that from anyone on our team. If you feed on drama or negativity, don't apply. You won't be happy here, and we will be quick to free up your future.

The positive part: Because of all of this,Angel country horse Ranch is a fantastic place to work! Everyone has a voice in group decisions. There is no yelling at people, no discipline problems, and no drama. Instead, there is support, cohesiveness, respect, and positive energy. We work very hard to find the absolute best people to work here, and it shows!

What we're looking for from you
When you apply for this job, you need to submit a cover letter as well as a resume. If you don't submit a cover letter, we're not going to look at your resume, simple as that. Your resume tells us what you've done. Your cover letter tells us who you are. Don't squander this opportunity! Let your character and personality spill out all over your letter. Stick out of the crowd. Tell us what makes you an awesome person, and why you want to be part of the Angel country horse Ranch team. Tell us about your horse experience, and what you're passionate about, and what your hopes and dreams are. Whatever. We're trying to get a feel for who you are. There's no word count rules, but if your letter is only 25 words long, you obviously don't have much to say about yourself, and that probably won't get you an interview. It's better to be long than short. Don't worry, we'll read it!

If you don't plan to be a Ranch Hand for the rest of your life, that's okay! It's a great way to get experience for a variety of things. Tell us what you want to do, and we'll try to help you get there. Good communication right from the beginning is a great way to build a solid relationship.

What we offer
- 40 hours a week (more if a horse is sick or appointments run late)
- 5-day work week; weekends required & some holidays
- Paid vacation (3 weeks your first year!)
- Paid sick time
- Bonus program
- Access to training opportunities
- Angel horse Ranch apparel and cold weather gear
- Absolutely unbeatable work environment!

If you're still reading...
Sorry this is so long, but we want to help you screen yourself out if this isn't the job for you. If it is the job for you, and you are a jam-up super-person, then sit down and write an amazing letter. Don't rush it. Read over it, have a friend help you get it just right. Your letter is what decides if you get an interview. When you're done, load it up and apply.
