Last week, we welcomed Josh Morey, Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Thomson-McDuffie Chamber of Commerce. Josh shared valuable insights on FLOST (Flexible Local Sales Tax) and its potential impact on our community ahead of the upcoming election.

Leslie Walker, Planning and Zoning Director for McDuffie County, and Ron Hulbert with McDuffie Feed & Seed were officially inducted at last week’s meeting. In honor of Literacy Month, don’t forget to bring an age-appropriate children’s book (infant–5th grade) or a monetary donation for our Area 9 service project supporting RISE Augusta. 📚💙

📚✨ Reminder! ✨📚
In honor of Literacy Month, our September service project will take place at the District Governor’s Dinner on September 30th at Belle Meade. With more than 75 Area 9 Rotarians already attending, we’re excited to make an even greater impact together!

We’re asking each member to bring an age-appropriate children’s book (infant–5th grade) or a monetary donation the night of the dinner. All books and funds will be donated to RISE Augusta, led by our fellow Rotarian Laurie Cook, who shares our belief that literacy is the key to unlocking learning.

👉 Thomson Rotarians are encouraged to shop local at MariBeths Books when picking up books for the project!

We had the privilege of hearing from Dr. Michelle Elliott, Director of the University of Georgia and the first woman to serve in this role. She shared powerful insights on how the program is creating a meaningful impact in communities across Georgia—including right here in Thomson-McDuffie.

Last week, we were honored to hear from Kimberly Walden, founder of the GLM2 Foundation, Inc. — a nonprofit dedicated to creating safe homes and long-term aftercare for women and children impacted by s*x trafficking and domestic violence across the Southeast. 💜
