This!!

Why does your farrier require you to stay on a schedule if you stay with him? Is he just wanting more money? Is he just taking advantage of you? Absolutely not. It’s all about keeping the horse’s foot as consistent as possible. Too many people think “oh, they don’t look bad so they don’t need done.” When in reality, if they do look good inbetween cycles, and they still look good when they are due next…that’s a compliment to the job the farrier has done.

For every 1 centimeter of extra toe, it’s an added 50 kilograms of force on the tendons. If you do the conversion, that’s 110lbs of extra tension!!!!! Think about the pain a horse has with toes that are 4-5” long. Or, on a horse that’s only done once or twice a year. So, when a farrier requires or asks that their clients stay on a schedule, it’s for the benefit of the horse. It’s our job as farriers to do what we can to keep our client horses both sound and comfortable.

Hello everyone, I am currently out of state for a family emergency. If you message me and do not hear back please know I will get back with you when I can. I will be back home Sunday but will have to make another trip over here very soon for a funeral, please be patient with me during this time! Thank you all 😊

I just shared this info with a client recently. But also this is great for donkeys legs, those poor things get so eaten up by flies!

Our summer reminder:

Get Desitin in your barn!

Desitin has many uses for our equine friends.

*Heal and Avoid sunburn on those pink noses/faces
*Keep pesky flies and midges from biting delicate ears, bellies, legs & inner thighs
*Keep thrush at bay on hooves
*Cover minor scrapes & wounds
*Waterproof (yes, even as they drink! Ours stays on for 24 hours through it all!)

And above all... safe 🥰

We find desitin to work better than traditional fly sprays & swat. And with it having so many good uses, it cuts down on the amount of different products needed in the barn.

We buy ours in bulk online, but you can find it at most any grocery or convenience store. Right in the baby aisle.

This horse skipped multiple trim cycles. This is a good example of “I cannot keep your horses hooves in good shape if you don’t stay on schedule”!

Keep your horse on a schedule and your horse (and farrier) will thank you!

Not a joke...

Have you ever wondered why you can have a 15 acre field and part of it is chewed down to nubs and the other part has grass a hand high, But your horse is constantly grazing in the chewed down part?

Grass 6 inches and taller has less sugars than grass under 6 inches.

For every inch drop below 6 inches, the fructan (sugar) content rises.

Grass under 6 inches is stressed like it's a Monday morning with a project deadline. It uses sugar to repair itself.

Stop mowing your fields short.

Stop grazing your chubbys on chewed down grass. (this is why grazing muzzles are so touted...they keep the horse from being able to get much short grass)

(We aren't saying let your fields be 3 feet tall, by the way. The optimal thing to do is keep them 6-8 inches tall and graze them in small areas there)

6 years ago today I graduated from farrier school!! It was one of the best decisions I’ve made, and cannot believe how much my business has grown since then. I truly love my job and am blessed with some amazing clients!😁 Here’s to many more years as a farrier!

Attention clients!

Due to inflation, more knowledge and years under my belt, new pricing will be effective on May 1st. This is now the going rate for pricing around our area as well. If you have 5 or more horses though your current pricing will stay the same. I will remind all of my clients of the price increase at our next appointment. I appreciate all of my clients!

I hope everyone has stayed warm and safe during the snow storm!

I just wanted to come on here and let everyone know that while this week is supposed to be cold, I am not rescheduling just because it’s cold. That’s what layers are for so be sure to dress warm! Horses still need to be trimmed and I don’t have a lot of room in my schedule to reschedule. Thanks for understanding and stay warm!
