‼️ATTENTION‼️

Do NOT use Aqueon Betta Beads! They are NOT SAFE! We have never recommended them in the past simply because they’ve always seemed scammy but now we will never recommend them.

In a fish group we are in, a member had them in her tank and her betta ate one. She says that he had been showing signs of ‘dropsy’ for a while but nothing she did was working but he miraculously was surviving. Yesterday she found her betta expelling the bead through his stomach, it was unable to pass through his digestive tract.

If they are currently in your tank, remove them! Do not take the chance of this happening.

If any of my followers are in Georgia I have some baby mountain snails looking for new homes! These little guys are perfect additions to your active terrariums and are simple to care for. They eat veggie scraps mainly but a mix of calcium powder or cuddle bone along with snail porridge is ideal. I have about 30-40 who are ready to find new homes. They cannot be transported outside of the state of GA. $10 each or buy 2 get 1 free for pick ups!

Blinkin is still looking for a home! Here’s a little about him. He is a GENUINE eyeless axolotl that was purchased from A’lotl But Crazy Axolotls. He has a super fun story behind him. A random follower reached out to me on Instagram needing to rehome a clutch and since I was full, I sent them to A’lotl Bit. Well it turned out the clutch was full of eyeless axolotls and the owner didn’t even realize until A’lotl Bit got there to pick up! WOW! I ended up buying a couple and Blinkin was one of them. Eyeless axolotls can be housed with either gender due to the fact they lack reproductive organs. They also have hyperpigmentation which makes them very dark. You wouldn’t believe it, but Blinkin is a wildtype NOT a melanoid. He has a few beautiful iridophores on his body. I’m hoping to rehome him for $300 plus the cost of shipping. If you are in South GA, you can definitely pick up! He is going to be 3 soon and is very active. A great hunter and loves to cuddle with his tank mates. PM if interested.

Stuart is still looking for his new home! A little about Stuart. This guy is a GFP leucistic proven male Axolotl. He was purchased from Alaskan Axolotls as an adult in May of 2021 and he just turned 3 years old last month. He was originally from a clutch of eggs produced from Northern Axolotls that hatched between Dec 1st and 4th of 2019.
Asking $150 plus shipping for this handsome boy. PM if interested.

*Not my photo!* But lets talk about fridging.

Time for a small rant. Something that I have been seeing A LOT of since getting into the axolotl hobby is people automatically resorting to fridging. While lowering the temp of the water is a great way to encourage passing waste and slowing down metabolism and the spread of illness, it should NOT be done in the fridge.

Did you know an axolotl's water temp is recommended to never get below 45 degrees Fahrenheit? Did you know the average temperature of a refrigerator is 37-40 degrees and often times malfunctions can drop it even lower? Sometimes you may notice putting food on the top shelf leads to it getting a layer of ice on it or freezing entirely.

So how can I lower the temp instead? ICE PACKS! Place an ice pack under your axolotl's tub and keep a thermometer in the water. Check it often and if you see it dipping too low, remove the ice pack. You can use an actual ice pack, frozen peas, frozen anything really! Frozen water bottles in the water are also a great way to lower the temp. This will help them pass that annoying constipation or air bubble. It can also help slow down their metabolism during treatment for fungus or bacterial infections.

Overall fridging should only be done as a last resort! If your axolotl is dying and you need to buy some time before the vet appointment, then to the fridge you go. STILL MONITOR THE TEMPS THOUGH!

Thank you for listening. :)

Please stop buying tortured, abused axolotls from unethical vendors/shops. You are not improving the lot of animals in any way by doing this; You are dooming countless others to torture and death.

I have said this in comments many times, but it just doesn't seem to sink in.

"Yes," you say, "but I am saving that one." No, I say; You are being a complete jerk. You are encouraging the evil a** who tortured that one to do it again and again.

I am triggered because I recently was told by a "breeder" that he has sold the last of his previous tortured clutch and is pairing his only two adults (of which he knows absolutely nothing) again. He hatched hundreds of eggs last time, and was proud that almost half of the babies he hatched survived past two weeks! He then gradually sold all of the survivors (and disposed of those that continued to die) over the next couple of months at trade shows and a local pet shop. He sold them in deli cups, but they were chewed up, so they were obviously kept together when not at a show.

This person told recent trade-show customers the animals were four months old (at two inches long) and to feed them dried bloodworms and tubifex worms.

This is what you're supporting when you "rescue" that axolotl.

This is what you should really do if you honestly want to help abused animals for sale; DO NOT BUY THEM. Inform the seller in no uncertain terms why you are not buying them. Be polite, but be direct. Offer guidance to the seller if you feel they are acting out of ignorance, or suggest ways they can get the guidance they need. If they are not receptive or come off as deliberate abusers, WARN OTHER PEOPLE.

While you're at it, spread the word; Axolotls should not be sold under 3+ inches without a disclaimer explaining risks and proper care of smaller juveniles (because in**ed and misfed axolotls may be unable to grow and survive beyond a couple of months old, or have other issues that cannot be identified before 3 months or so). They should have ALL of their toes, legs, gills, etc. (if ONE does not, the seller should be honest about the reason and apologetic. If MANY do not then WALK AWAY). They should come with a care sheet or at least a link to where to get one. If any of this is not the case WALK AWAY.

Please...
