We are so grateful to our friends at Pals4Paws who awarded us a grant that helped build this nice big dog run, we are calling it the Play Pen. Mondo and Bruno (one of our fosters) both love to be in it ❤️. This pen allows us to safely contain larger dogs with its 6' fencing.

We could really use some volunteers to spend time with the dogs in our care, giving them one-on-one training and lots of love. If you're interested, please fill out our Volunteer Application here: https://www.safeplacerescue.org/how-to-help.

This little sweetie came to us as a foster from Pitties and Kitties Rescue of New Mexico. We are calling her Stella. Stella and her litter mates were abandoned in a cramped box leaving some potential problems with her back legs. With good food and exercise, we hope this will correct itself but the folks at Pitties and Kitties are in close contact to make sure she gets what she needs. Go and give them a like and check out their dogs and cats available for adoption.

And a shoutout to the folks who sent stuff from our wishlist, we are using many of the items you sent to give Stella everything she needs to be comfortable and happy. ❤️❤️

How many people out there just yelled “Stella!” 😆

We had a great first volunteer day yesterday! Our goal was to make some progress on the chicken area. We are bringing in 5 chickens in 4 weeks and they need the perfect place. We identified the 2 houses we will use and got to fixing and painting. Thanks to all our volunteers: Lisa, Tamara, Hilary, Tricia, Robby and Aurora. And a special shout out the Kristi for helping give Javier his shot. And thanks to Sid for keeping Lisa warm while she painted. ❤️❤️

Valentina is doing great! She can hear Pixie and Oscar and is anxious to meet them. Once she is through her quarantine period, she will get her chance 😍. Here’s Valentina eating breakfast this morning. She goes back and forth from food to water. You do you girl! ❤️❤️

It's been brought to our attention that this little sweetie is in dire need. We don't know much about her but we are going to call her Valentina (meaning strength). We believe Valentina has been roaming Tome (south of Belen) for months. It's a miracle she is still alive between the freezing cold temps and the predators. Someone has Valentina somewhat contained but she needs a place to go immediately.

We hadn't planned on taking in any newbies until we got the chicken area built but we can't turn our back. To be able to take in Valentina we need: 1) donations and 2) volunteers for this weekend

Valentina will need to be fully vetted and will likely need to be spayed. We could also use a sponsor to cover the cost of her food and any medicine she may need.

For the volunteer work, we are going to be working on the chicken area and creating a great place for Valentina this weekend and could use help with fencing, painting and cleaning.

If you have a couple of hours to spend this weekend, PM me with which day works and here is the Volunteer Application: https://www.safeplacerescue.org/volunteer-application.

Donations can be made here or on the website, www.safeplacerescue.org.

I know so many of you have sent generous donations and we love you for it. Sharing this post is probably the best way for us to get what we need to help Valentina ❤️❤️.

Today Darla was introduced to the small goats, Casper and Javier. Javier was completely indifferent but Casper welcomed his new friend. With the help of our volunteers, Tricia and Aurora, we watched carefully to make sure things didn't go south. They didn't. These two had some of the most polite headbutting I've seen. Darla loved the tire playground. We are still keeping an eye on Darla wounds but she was very ready to get into a bigger place with new goat friends 😍😍.

If you like to help with Darla's or any of the animals food and straw needs, there is a fee-free way to donate on our website, https://www.safeplacerescue.org/.

Darla is feeling much better. When Robby says jump, she says how high 🤣. Darla is going to finish her antibiotics this week then on Sunday, we are going to try to integrate her with the little goats, Casper and Javier. Stay tuned!

Hi everyone! We have been taking a little break and focusing on some organization and clean up. That was interrupted a few times with new additions but that's the way it goes 😍.

We are truly grateful for all of our friends, donors, volunteers and supporters these last two months ❤️! Your contributions are giving us the message that what we are doing is very important and needs to be done. With you all behind us, we know we can do great things.

Here are a few photos from the last few weeks. I'm going to send out a newsletter with details from our first two months in 2024 and what we have planned for 2025. If you'd like to receive the email, send me a message with your email address and I'll get that out to you.

Happy New Year, everyone! Let's all make a resolution to help more animals in in 2025!

We've been busy this week with our new addition, Darla ❤️. Darla has had a rough couple of weeks. She was attacked by a dog and has some serious wounds on her neck. The East Mountain community pulled together to raise money for her care after her owner was unable to afford it and ultimately relinquished ownership. She had an adopter lined up but that fell through and after 4 days at the vets, she needed a place to go.

Darla is 9 months old and as sweet as can be. She has been quiet all week and was very tolerant of the wound care she needs twice a day. Her wounds are extensive so there's lots of healing to do. Luckily, she has a good appetite and is eating and drinking well. She's not a fan of her antibiotic but she powers through. Today, she looks improved and is roaming around her yard.

Darla is an Alpine goat which means she will be a big girl when she grows up. With another mouth to feed, we could really use a sponsor or two for Darla. If you can, please consider a donation or sponsorship for Darla or any one of the sweeties who call this place home.

❤️❤️❤️❤️

Here's our latest foster dog, Bruno ❤️. He is one of the most stunning dogs with his shiny black fur. Bruno is 9 months old and my guess is he's a pittie/lab mix. Bruno is just a love who wants to be with his people although Mondo can get him to play tug-a-war sometimes. Bruno is fostered through Labor of Love Project. He will be neutered the beginning of January then hopefully he will find an out-of-state rescue who can tell how wonderful he is. Until then, we will treat him as one of our own (for Snickers, that means letting him know when he gets too close 😆).

Meet Javier!

Javier came to us in September with an obvious ailment in his legs. The word we got was that he had been injured in an altercation with another goat. It's clear to see his challenges and his front leg is completely seized up. Javier has been on Meloxicam since he got here which is a pain med but you can see in the photo, sometimes he would sit down when he ate. It also still seemed like he was having trouble walking so Dr. Clark suggested we try Adequan which is a stronger pain med injection. The videos were taken after the injection and we saw an immediate improvement in his mobility.

Animals can't tell us when they are in pain and they tolerate a lot - they just don't give up. With the improvement we've seen with the Adequan, we're going to make this part of Javier's care. We may not know if the pain is completely gone but we know he feels better. Unfortunately, it's a very expensive medication. Javier already has one generous sponsor but he could use a few more. This medicine will be in the hundreds of dollars each month.

If you can help with a monthly recurring donation to help Javier or any of the animals here, please visit our website and hit the Donate button to set it up. Thank you ❤️❤️

We have them!

We have rescued the two Moriarty pigs, Oscar and Pixie. Some in the local rescue community have heard of these two. They were in desperate need of rescue and lots of folks helped get the word out. Our amazing animal rescue village in action! We were so happy we could bring them here. When I met them last week, I knew we had to do something. With the help of our friend Kelli from Roots Animal Sanctuary, we picked them up yesterday.

These poor babies are in rough shape. As you can see in the photos, they need their hooves and tusks trimmed. They also need good nutrition and we immediately put them on Origins Feed. They loved it!

Our wonderful vet, Dr. Clark from Western Trails, will be here this afternoon to do the initial assessment and get their hooves and tusks trimmed. Pixie will need to be spayed but we won't do that until she has lost some weight and is in good health. We were told that Oscar is blind due to a dog attack. We'll need to get that assessed as well.

It's sweet to watch these two together. After they arrived, they explored their area and took a cozy nap next to each other in the sun. Pixie helped Oscar find his way to the house filled with straw and they slept peacefully through the night.

If you're able to help with the vet bills for Oscar and Pixie, please visit our website, https://www.safeplacerescue.org/. We have added a payment option through Zeffy which a great organization who processes the donations and sends all proceeds to the rescue, no fees (unless you want to give a donation to them for their service-your decision)! With the initial vet visit and Pixie's spay, we estimate the bill will be over $1,000. We have received some donations but we could really use more to cover this large bill. Any amount will help!

We also have a link to our Amazon Wish List on our How to Help page. We realized yesterday that we really need an extra large plastic crate to transport pigs so we've added that to the list.

Our foster dog Migs went off to his next stop today, a rescue in Washington State. He is a very sweet boy who we will miss very much but this is the part we play in the process to save dogs from being euthanized. We help the rescues who are on the front lines who need fosters to be able to pull dogs out. Right now, we are fostering one dog at a time. Once we have raised enough funds, we will build out a few yards and purchase more crates so we can expand.

Please help by sharing and encouraging friends to like our page. Thank you❤️❤️
