Realized earlier today that a date on the previous flyer was incorrect. This one is correct. The Tionesta meeting is on January 29 and the Marienville session is on January 30. Also, representatives from West Virginia University will be in attendance presenting on Brownfields. These individuals work with the US EPA in our region and have been very helpful. At the last meeting, the public was very interested in the subject, so there will be people in attendance to facilitate a discussion. If anyone has a site or sites in mind, please share so an inventory for potential remediation projects Forest County can be started. Once sites are cleaned up, they can be used for potential development.

Deadline Nears for Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program

Older adults and Pennsylvanians with disabilities have until Dec. 31 to apply for the state’s 2023 Property Tax/Rent Rebate program. Remember, assistance through my offices is always free. You need not pay a private firm for assistance.

Income limits increased this year to $45,000 for both homeowners and renters, so if you were earning too much to qualify before, you may be eligible now. Remember to exclude 50% of Social Security when determining your income. The maximum rebate also increased to $1,000.

The program is open to residents age 65 years and older; widows and widowers 50 years and older; and people with disabilities 18 years and older.

The 2024 Property Tax/Rent Rebate program will open for applications in mid- to late January.

Older adults and people with disabilities 18 and older in Pennsylvania may be eligible to receive up to $1,000 in rebates.

During the American Revolutionary War, the Sons of Liberty often convened under the nation's original Liberty Tree in Boston to discuss their opposition to British rule in the colonies. This historic tree became a beacon of hope to colonists and a symbol of American freedom. To stymie these colonists, the British destroyed Boston's Liberty Tree. Suddenly, patriots throughout the 13 colonies began to designate new Liberty Trees. The last known original Liberty Trees was on the campus of Saint John's University in Maryland until it was destroyed by Hurricane Floyd in 1999. Thanks to landscaper Mark Mehnert, who rescued and revived parts of this original tree, direct descendants of this Liberty Tree are thriving and making their way across the nation.

Generously sponsored by and in partnership with the Pennsylvania Freemasons, America250PA's Liberty Tree Project includes a certified Liberty Tree planted in each of Pennsylvania's 67 counties beginning in the Fall of 2021, through 2026.

Join us for a momentous occasion as we plant a Liberty Tree in Forest County! You are cordially invited to witness this historic event and become integral to our shared legacy.
