Moby update! (Doesn't he look so regal in his photo?!)

Today, he went for his evaluation with the soft tissue surgery department at OSU, and after some follow-up imaging and labs, they feel Moby is a GOOD candidate for the shunt correction surgery! He is spending the night with them this evening to proceed with surgery first thing tomorrow (Wednesday) morning! The vets feel this is low-risk for him, which is such a relief to hear.

If you could send Moby all the best wishes and good vibes, we would be so grateful! We are rooting for our boy to pull through - the vets feel that not only is that going to happen, but that he is looking at a long, happy, life after he's healed ❤️

If you're able and would like to help us get a little closer to the low end of the surgery estimate at $4,000, the link to do that is here, through Moby's personal surgery fundraiser:
https://www.paypal.com/donate/?hosted_button_id=ASPJTKHWEVLCC

So far we've raised $762.55, thanks to your kindness!

If you'd be interested in adopting Moby after his surgery is finished and healing complete, please apply here: https://ourfarmsanctuary.org/adoption-process/

Once he's cleared by the vets to head home, we will post another update!

Sunday morning 8/25 update: So far you all have put together $611.56 towards Moby's total - Thank you so much for your generosity!

Good morning, everyone! Today we'd like for you to meet, Moby.

Moby is a 3 year old Yorkie who was surrendered to us in January 2024, needing a cystostomy for urinary stones. We worked with our vets to get him the surgery he needed, and the stones removed were sent off for histopathology - whose results told our vets that Moby likely had liver shunts.

Turns out, he does.

After consulting with and receiving an astronomical estimate coupled with low surgery survival expectancy from local specialists, we decided to seek a second opinion, and Moby made his way to OSU for consult and imaging.

On 8/27, Moby is scheduled to head back to OSU for a follow up evaluation with the soft tissue surgery department, and if he's cleared for surgery, he will stay that day to undergo the operation the following day. The imaging he had earlier this month showed that yes, he does indeed have liver shunts (plural) but with his bloodwork and urinalysis results, OSU gave him a hopeful prognosis and feel comfortable moving forward with surgery to correct the shunts. There, they treat and correct liver shunts in dogs so often each year, and said Moby is one of the healthier shunt patients they've seen. Amazing news! The not so amazing news:

His surgery came with an estimate of $4,000-$6,000 and while that's not the $9,000-$12,000 estimate we were given initially at a different specialist, it's still a large chunk of change.

Can you help? We'd like to see Moby through the surgery, and onto his forever home once he's healed and available for adoption - he is only 3, and has his whole dog life ahead of him to live! Every little bit will help!

If you're able, please use the link below to help us provide this needed corrective surgery for Moby. We will provide updates to this post as we near our minimum goal of the low end of the OSU estimate:

https://www.paypal.com/donate/?hosted_button_id=ASPJTKHWEVLCC

If you'd like to be considered for adoption once Moby is all healed, please apply here:

https://ourfarmsanctuary.org/adoption-process/

We feel Moby would appreciate an adoptive home with children, he adores kids and was over the moon during his time spent in temporary foster (with kids!) prior to his current foster home. He also didn't mind the resident cats! Dogs he can be selective about, so we'd have everyone meet first once application is approved. He's a sweet little guy!

Thank you all, truly, for your continued love and support!

Animals who find themselves in the care of OFS have unique capacity for love. Some have never had a family of their own, born to the streets to fend for themselves. Others knew what family meant and some life change took it all away. Despite the beginning of their story, OFS is the middle, a transitional chapter in their lives, a chapter that we hope ends with, “happy tails.”

We are here for the animals, and we have lots of amazing dogs and cats available for adoption. Our presence may feel a little different as we navigate forward, but at the end of the day we do this for the purrs, the wagging tails, and the smiles.

Era and Gentry are two of our deserving friends waiting for the right families to see what we see and give them the homes they deserve. Please check out our website to see all of our adoptables and applications to adopt or foster (https://ourfarmsanctuary.org). Help us keep the OFS chapter brief, we love being a part of their story, but who doesn’t love a happily ever after?

Let's talk about My Girl Maggie.
This girl was born with feet that turned under so that she walks now and has always walked, with her hooves curled back.

When she was born, her human mama fell in love and decided that this special little calf would not be leaving.

That was twenty-one years ago. Time took lots of things from that little farm, and as time does, made it harder for her mama to continue to care for her. Additionally, she was the last animal on the little hobby farm. Loneliness was a factor in each of her days.

She approached us a few months back, and we agreed, that My Girl aka Maggie, should come to be the companion to Peaches that we'd be hoping for.

Our farm team is pretty special. They take the time needed and read the needs of each animal to assess how best to make them happy, as well as healthy. A slow introduction has been taking place over these weeks, so that by the time Maggie's quarantine was over, she was already well-acquainted with her neighbors turned roomies.

Then came the flower wreaths, the picture taken and framed for the first mama of My Girl--as she called her.

In the time she's been with OFS, Maggie has seen our vets three times and is doing very well. She will be seeing the farrier this week.

We do know that her feet are her "normal, "and she's getting around really well. Best of all, she has new animal friends again and lives under five miles away from her original home. So she sees her mama pretty frequently.

We love when we can change the lives of animals for the better, but it's a wonderful bonus to be able to enjoy how often we get to heal each other, too.

Finding a space for Maggie meant we have two new friends: one donkey and one lovely lady who loves her. We welcome them both with open arms.

This is what we do. Meet Emmy, a former commercial breeding dog. She was kept in a cramped cage so long her legs were deformed and her backside and feet were urine-burned. She is enjoying outside romps for the first time in her life, but she still cries out and spins trying to find relief for her back end.

She is in a loving foster home here at the farm.

This is what we do. We find dogs and cats in some of the most dire situations and we give them new lives, we rehabilitate their bodies when we can.

This video has no music nor captions. We threw it together quickly. We just thought you should see one of the many lovely animals who come through our program and find new homes, new life.

Please, if you would like to support us click below and make donation so we can continue helping animals in need.

They’re the Barbie cats, in the Barbie world. They’re not plastic. They’re fantastic.

Mama Annika arrived at the sanctuary in late March very heavily pregnant. She was at her fosters for less than a day when on March 25 Annika gave birth to 7 kittens (4 girls and 3 boys) they are the Barbies! Annika is a chatty little mama. She loves to cuddle in your lap

Allen loves to climb up your body so he can be held and loved on. He loves sitting in your lap.

Blaine is the alpha of the litter. He has a favorite toy he loves to carry around

Chelsea is an adorable little love. She will take all the cuddles she can.

Dominic is a. It of a wild child. He often gets the zoomies and doesn’t like being picked up. He cuddles in his own terms only.

Francie is the sweetest little tux you will ever meet. She’s full of attitude and cuddles

Stacie is the most regal of the bunch. She is very special and affectionate.

Tutti is very timid, but she loves to be held and cuddled. She may take a minute to get comfortable outside of your lap.

These Barbies are looking for their dream home.
Apply today.

Meet Terrance!
Looking for a spirited companion who's great with people, older children, and even cats? Terrance, our 1-year-old Jack Russell, is your guy! He's friendly and doesn't mind being around most dogs as long as they aren't too in his face and he didn't give much attention to cats when introduced.
Terrance does have a bit of a free spirit that occasionally leads to door-dashing adventures. Terrance would thrive in a vigilant home with a fenced yard, where his zest for life can be safely enjoyed. If you're ready to welcome this lively bundle of joy into your family, apply today!

Please share. Farming isn't all feeding animals and throwing hay. Sometimes, like the cowboys and cowgirls, you have to ride the range and fix fencing.

This weekend we're putting in new fencing for the ponies and the goats and pigs and donkey.

We need help tomorrow, Friday at 7:00 AM. We are going to pull up fence posts and take down fence wire.

Through a generous grant from the Hattan Foundation we are getting new fencing in the west pasture. Before it goes in, old fencing must come down.

We are meeting tomorrow morning at 7:00 AM to begin demolition. Please come and help. This is an important project.

So overdue on telling this cute tale:

About a week ago, I heard squeals next door. I saw Cid, our feline lead, (and the famous Fotis' mama) as well as several other volunteers, wielding a big net and racing around, trying to climb trees and fences. It turned out that an all-white, young guinea hen was alluding capture, and they were determined to try help the bird survive the predators of nightfall by catching it and seeing if our guinea-savvy neighbors might be interested in giving it a safe home.

The hen had either ideas and roosted up for the night way up in a tall pine tree.

Flash forward to morning. Our director hears a chaos of sound coming from her bedroom window. When she looks out, the very same hen is gawking at her from the window.

Chicken seed is deployed and for a few hours, the hen stayed on the deck, until finally going out to the yard and hanging out with the chickens. But when the dogs came out, the bird was spooked and left the property.

We spotted her heading down the middle of Agenbroad Road, but gratefully, she was heading towards the neighbor's home where guineas and chickens already lived.

Now, for those following the Ozzy/Scotty story, these are in fact the same cool neighbors who drove the pig back from California a couple of weeks ago, and also, adopted one of our amazing mill dogs: Jackal. They are true friends to the sanctuary and were really hopeful that this little white hen would want to join their flock. Towards that, the released their guinea hens in the hope that their voices would signal to the hen that this was a good home for guinea fowl.
Sadly, as we checked in throughout the day, the hen was nowhere to be found. We assumed that our efforts had failed. She had been skirting the farm, but last we saw her, she was heading deep into the Bowman Landes property and likely, by then, very far from our neighbor's home.
By evening, it seemed pretty certain that this little lass was going to be a long time lost.
Until they went to lock down the coop for the night and little Ms. Blanco, as they are now calling her, had seen herself right into the coop and spent the day there!!!
A couple of days, a few scattered heroes and this little lady has found her true home. Welcome to safe, Blanco!
We welcome this new feathery neighbor.

UPDATE: Thank you ALL for being so gracious.
We were really fortunate to have the director of Sunrise Sanctuary pop over, pick up the meds and drive them as far as Springfield where we met her.

Don't you LOVE when rescues & sanctuaries help each other like this?

We are on one big, beautiful mission to heal the hurting and our own weary souls while we're at it.

A big high-five to our friends up the road apiece, Thanks to you, Ms. Maggie has had her first dose of meds. With luck, she'll start to feel better soon.

My Girl Maggie is in need of meds as she's urinating blood. OSU in Marysville who is treating her has the medications ready for pick up.

If we get them now/today as opposed to hanging them shipped, she can get started sooner on treatment.

🐾❤️ Meet Makani❤️🐾

🐾Age: ~6 yrs old
🐾Breed: Mountain Cur Mix
🐾Weight: 45 lbs
🐾Location: Foster
🐾at OFS since: Aug 2023
🐾Housebroken
🐾spayed

Makani came to us in August of 2023 from a high volume county shelter. She must have not lived a good life as she was hand shy and it took her a while to warm up to people. After 4 stressful months in the kennel, a volunteer took her home to foster Makani and we have since learned a lot about her.

Over the last 7 months, we discovered Makani loves people and being with her human. She is a couch potato and loves snoozing the day away after playing with a ball or her stuffed toys. She chases her tail on command and it’s the funniest thing.
While we are still working on her reactiveness while on a leash, she has learned to live peacefully with small male foster dogs in the household, on two separate occasions. She also loves the neighbor‘s large male dog and plays with him along the fence. While a home without other animals would be best, she would probably do well with an older dog that doesn’t give her any attention.

Makani needs a loving, patient home, where she can be given the time to trust and get the peace she deserves.

If you would like to meet Makani, please fill out the adoption link on her profile or the direct link below.

Greetings Farm Family,

Our new pig, Scotty, is having to adapt to pretty extreme changes in terms of his environment.
This week, in particular, will be a bit of a scorcher.

We hope you'll join us in "Icing the Pig"

If you're stopping by the farm, we'd love to get some bags of ice to add to the little mudhole.

It’s Kittenpalooza and we have 3 adorable litter that will be making their debuts this weekend.

But we also celebrate the inner kitten of our adult and senior cats!

Did you know that 82% of kittens are adopted. (That means 18% are not)

Only 60% of our adult cats will ever be adopted. (40% will spend the rest of their lives with us)

Sadly, only 25% of seniors ever get adopted. (That leaves 75% of our seniors to spend their final years with us.)

We have a wonderful volunteer who focuses on special needs and senior care fostering and on property care. They have offered a special surprise to the first 5 senior or adult adoptions!

We asked which 5 they would most like to see adopted

1. Norman. This handsome tuxedo boy has a condition known as Megacolon. He requires daily medication and special food. He is 5 years old and has been with us for the past 4 years. Due to his condition he resides in a large cage in our medical area. He deserves a home.

2. Dave (Grohl). He’s are adorable little Foo Fighter. Everyone loves him. Everyone says they will apply to adopt him. Yet, he’s still here. This 2 year old boy has been with us for a year of broken promises from potential adopters. Dave is on a Grain Free/Chicken Free diet. Why has no one snatched him up yet?

3. Booster. This 5 year old guy has spent the last 3 years at the Sanctuary. He is a Manx meaning he has no tail and long back legs. He is also on a Grain Free/Chicken Free diet. When Booster gets stressed he over grooms and pulls his fur out. He is not a fan of small children that does well with older kids and adults. Will someone please adopt him?

4. Blockhead. He is a solid dude who is in the 12+ age range. He has had enteopean eye surgery on both eyes. He’s had most of his teeth removed. He spent his entire life up until last year outside He is FIV positive. He is the sweetest most gentle lap cat that you will ever meet. He deserves the best retirement home where he can spend the rest of his life in your home.

5. Sierra is a senior girl in the 9+ years category. She only has one eye and she is in the early stages of kidney disease. Sierra is sweet, affectionate, loving and amazing all around. Due to her diet of prescription kidney food she is unable to roam our main adoption floor and spends most of her time in a large medical cage in back. We would love for this girl to find a wonderful home to spend her final years.

Don’t worry, you still get to spin the Wheel Of Fortune for a Kittenpalooza prize if you adopt a kitten or happen to be the 6th or later adopter of a senior or adult cat. This is a special door buster offer for those first five adult or senior adopters starting this Saturday July 13th! You will need to apply RIGHT NOW to be screened and approved for Saturday!
