Snow on the ground? ES LOVE snow!! Just because the weather isn't perfect for us, doesn't mean your pup wouldn't still love their daily jaunt. In fact, it's important to keep your dog fit and trim for their health and joints, regardless of the time of year and weather.
Thankfully, my dogs have a nice big fenced area to run off steam, rain or shine, mud or snow. And are trustworthy off leash, with great recalls.
Maybe you don't have that "luxury", but you can take a trip to Tractor Supply, Home Depot, etc and get in a little walk and some extra training this time of year. Take some winter classes at your local training facility. Learn some fun tricks and participate in Do More With Your Dog trick titles! You will be surprised at the difficulty of some levels of Trick Titling!
Your dog will thank you!! The ES brain and energy does not "shut off" entirely for the winter.

More PRA6 News on the Home front.
Results are now final on my pack. The only litter I have produced with carrier status is Tia x Chisum 2024. I will be testing individuals in her planned final pairing this Spring. No other member of my program, or litter produced by my studs, is a carrier.
Both of my fully tested studs, Mathias and Jonas, are clear. As is my co-owned Paladin, and the upcoming, Justice.

Got this sweet update on Ember, now Rosie, from Tia x Chisum litter.
"Rosie is loving this snow! Particularly sticking her nose it in! Running figure eights in it is one of her favorite pasttimes. She keeps a close eye on our chickens, ducks, Pigs, and cats. She adores our youngest daughter and they frequently are caught getting into mischief together! They particularly liked raiding the candy canes from the Christmas tree and sharing their spoils" 😉

I've been so busy but here's the big news!!
Daysha, homebred from my own Mathias and Iva cross, truly made me Proud!! Of the entire dog family at our training facility, S.A.M.S, they choose 10 teams each year who have make the greatest strides and progress and excel in teamwork.
Daysha made the cut!! To say I was thrilled is an understatement. I put so much of me into my dogs. They are my fur children and my life!
To receive this award for our achievements, titles, beginning agility and our conditioning classes, and all the work we put in together on a day to day basis, was overwhelming and I am so excited. This kissy girl is such a delight, as my next generation of breeding and carrying on my program. God knew what he was doing when he gave me this little jewel. She has a place in my heart alongside her Mama forever.

As some of you know, GenSol finally got the UK PRA6 test available here in the US. I'm working through seeing who may possibly carry for through testing my crew currently. This mutation has to do with vision/eye health. A double carrier will go blind with age.
Got the first round of results back!
Mathias and Iva puppy owners.... your pups are "clear" by pedigree for the mutation. This means my Daysha is as well.

Great update on Brisk, now Archie, from Iva x Jonas 2024 litter.
Archie is a farm dog, who gets to go between summers in WI and winters in AZ. His owners have agility in his future alongside of his many other adventures.

From Archie's people...
"Archie has been the perfect pup, and an even better hiking companion.
He's the perfect blend of an adventure boy and a snuggler. He goes on hikes a few days a week, and plays with his/our dog friends most days.
He's been very easy to train -amazing recall, off leash manners, and general obedience. We just love him!

My beautiful little Nyia (pronounced Ni-a, "Gift of God") is all elbows and knees right now!
What a smart, eager to please and quick to learn, confident little girl she is. A chip off the ol' block!

Tia x Chisum's "Justice" has yet another certificate under his belt at 6 months!! 👍😮😘
Justice is really coming into his own, now through his fear stage, and becoming the confident, smart, sweet little guy he was as a young pup. Such a bright future ahead for this guy.
Thanks again Chisum and Maggie Boreland for helping make Justice and his littermates happen.

My beautiful Miss Daysha has another certificate under her belt! 👌
I just couldn't be more proud or excited with this lovely homebred girl. She is going to be a great little sports dog and breeding prospect. Fully health/hip checked now, stay tuned for 2025 news!

So much about training is BODY LANGUAGE and how well you can read it! Did you know hormones can play a role in this, too?
Anyone who has bred dogs knows, our usually outgoing, sweet girls can turn into total "B" when it comes time for heats and whelping. Or bringing around another in heat girl, this can start the girls "sizing each other up"... again, easy to read in dog body language!
These same dogs would usually not have problems, but "act out" thanks to the role played by hormones.

Mercy, pictured, is typically Miss Happy. Bubbly, social, confident, and friendly. Not today.
At last night's class, Mercy was reserved, nervous, and all around not herself. Look at her body language and this is an easy one to read. She's lacking her usual eye sparkle and confidence.
Come to see, when I do my "rounds" the next AM... Mercy is in heat. It all made sense then! I will have my bubbly, outgoing baby girl back soon.

NW PA….Sunday after church, Tia and I met up with a group of dogs & their owners (from my dog classes). For a fun outing with nature and to view the fall colors as well as the beautiful blue October sky.
We hiked our dogs thru trails in the woods, let them swim in a creek and take a dip in a lake. And still had time for a group pic too.

In steps, Daysha (Mathias/Iva 2023) learning at class about where her feet go! This is all important as a start to a hopeful agility career.
Daysha is a quick learner and it doesn't take more than a couple of tries to go from a sit, to the KLIMB, to a stand on the KLIMB, to a stand on the FitBone.
We also worked on pivoting with the front legs, hard to photograph or video with a single pair of hands, so none of that to show off this time.
Super excited about this girl and everything she's becoming.

Justice (Chisum/Tia), my keeper pup, just celebrated 🎉 his 6 month marker, too. Really coming into his own as a big boy, and that milk sable, so different than any of my other ES. And amazingly hard to photograph such a light coated dog.
Mathias had to be included too, dapper as always 😉

This is one of the placements in my 2024 litter dearest to my heart and with so much meaning for this breed.
Kaley Broeckelman Bachura is seeking to revive the Under the Rainbow 🌈 Lineage in Julia K. Downs ' home state of Kansas.
Kip, being a son of Maggie Boreland 's Chisum (Quigley Jr.) who was bred by Julia, and out of my Tia, will be her foundation stud in this venture.
We are so excited to see his bright future continue to unfold!
"Kip is 6 months old now and has already outgrown my Jovee!
He is all farm dog. We recently got a milk cow and some bottle calves and he takes his job of watching over them all very seriously. Jovee has that drive to herd and get them to move, whereas he would rather watch and let them do their thing. He does love to herd Jovee while she plays fetch and definitely has some gathering instinct. He alerts anytime someone comes to the farm but is always ready to greet once he knows they are OK.
I haven't weighed him lately but am guessing he is in the mid to upper 40 #'s right now.
It's crazy to me how different, and yet the same they are. He balances her out very well, she is my wild child, he is more laid back.
He is exact color we were hoping for and my husband loves him. I still love his big white blaze and thick white collar."

Getting nails done has never been so cute!! 🥰

A trip with me yesterday for a swim!! But today...Today was a good day..... Buck went home!! When I heard of the tragic circumstances of his owner, I quickly put everything aside and made a quick trip to bring him home. After a bit of reevaluating him, I posted and got lots of inquiries. But right off the bat, I felt like this particular one was "it." They had seen him and felt compelled to see if he was still available... I am so glad they did! These folks had recently had a tragic experience with their ES and lost their guy Barkley, at 10yrs old. Buck has recently been through a lot, losing "his guy" and coming back to Freedom Bend to start all over again. After much discussion, we both decided they were each others "healing medicine", and are thrilled to welcome another couple into the Freedom Bend family! A bit about his new family.... Buck gets to live in Daddy's state....he now calls New Jersey "home!" He gets this couple all to himself!! He now has a 20 whole acres to be on, with a pond and creek. Buck loves water so he'll be excited about this!! They also have a dog loving cat who will make a good friend! They have neighbors who are friends and have low energy dogs who will make good friends for Buck to socialize with. Most of all they have an ES size hole in their hearts that is now filled again. Can't wait for many the happy updates I'm sure will ensue!
