Absolutely devastating to hear of the passing of two incredible people and equestrians 😞💔

-

Both were pillars of the equestrian community and were doing what they loved. All we can hope is that we live a life of our passions, even when it ends in tragedy.

The finality of death, the permanence of their loss is suffocating. A devastating hold from within that takes your breath away.

Their legacies will continue to live on in the people who loved them and the people they’ve inspired🙏

Judge quietly supervising, wondering if he is in fact just a 1300lbs big dog 😝

We aren’t perfect, but we’re here. We’re trying. We’re learning. We’re growing.

Thankful for the opportunity to be in this place and be dealt the challenges that will ultimately lead to our success❤️

The Thoroughbred. Arguably one of the absolute best equine specimens on the planet. Highly misunderstood (spooky, hard keepers, with bad feet) yet incredibly versatile with an unmatched work ethic. Their heart, mind, and soul are wickedly poetic. To know the love of a Thoroughbred is unlike any other on Earth 🙏

Almost every horse can (and should!!) go barefoot. Why?

Because it allows them to
✅reconnect to Mother Nature
✅increase blood flow
✅increase proprioception
✅increase hoof quality

And sooo much more! It can be so intimidating to take a horse barefoot but it is well worth the journey!

With
✅forage based nutrition
✅passive movement
✅quality, informed hoof care
✅consistency

Any horse can do it! And they will be so much better off for it.

For those horses who can’t (years of poor hoof care etc) - glue on shoes, hoof boots and other innovative technologies can help transition them out of metal shoes!

Empower your horse to live as Mother Nature intended and designed over many, many years❤️

Horses. One of the most incredible animals to have ever graced this planet.

They show up for us in unimaginable ways each and everyday without fail. The bond you can create with a horse is deeper than almost any other relationship you may have with a dog, cat, human or other.

Everyone loves horses, but to know the love of a horse is life changing♥️

I have loved horses since I was a little girl. I would watch the Olympics diligently and always knew the horses before the riders. Longing to see horses out of my window on roadtrips. Visiting the backside of racetracks. Watching every horse movie. They have always been apart of my identity. I am so grateful to all the lesson horses who gave me a piece of their heart and who continued to fuel the fire growing within me.

There is so much that the movies and the brief experiences don’t teach you. There is so much more to the horse than most talk about(a whole new post for another day!!). Caring for your own horses is wildly, beautifully different though. And I hope every little horse crazy kid gets to experience that in their lifetime.

We need more people staying true to their passions and shining their light in the world rather than shoving themselves into a box society built for them. You are so much more and there is so much more out there for you♥️

My horses are my greatest loves out of all the animals I own. I am forever grateful for the opportunities and experiences they have given me and I hope to share those with more of you🌟

Ticket is just a few months into his rehab and he like so many other horses were doomed to restrictive practices that didn’t focus on building a sound hoof.

With quality, informed hoof care, passive movement, good nutrition and consistency - laminitic horses can recover and go on to live happy, healthy, sound lives!

Looking at the new growth coming in, I am very excited for his future and to see how he will continue to progress!! Stay tuned and follow to keep up to date with his journey.

Ticket is a beautiful dark bay thoroughbred who won almost $20k on the track. He is all class, all legs, and has a heart of gold. He is worth it🙏❤️

Reading horse facial expressions can provide valuable insights into their emotions, intentions, and state of mind. While horses don’t express emotions in the same way humans do, there are some key facial cues you can observe:

✅Eyes: The eyes are often considered the window to a horse’s soul. Wide-open eyes with white showing may indicate fear or agitation. Half-closed, droopy eyes may suggest relaxation or sleepiness. Dilated pupils can indicate excitement or fear.
✅Ears: Horses use their ears extensively to communicate. Forward-pointing ears usually indicate interest or alertness. Pinned-back ears can signify aggression, fear, or pain. Swiveling ears may indicate the horse is listening to sounds in different directions.
✅Nostrils: Flared nostrils can indicate excitement, exertion, or arousal. Relaxed, closed nostrils suggest calmness.
✅Mouth and Lips: A relaxed mouth with lips slightly parted indicates relaxation. Clenched jaws or tight lips can suggest discomfort or tension. Teeth grinding may indicate pain or stress.
✅Facial Muscles: Tension in the facial muscles, such as tightness around the eyes or nostrils, may indicate discomfort, pain, or stress.
✅Whiskers: Watch for movements or twitching of the whiskers. Rapid twitching may indicate excitement, discomfort, or uncertainty.
✅Overall Expression: Pay attention to the overall expression of the horse’s face. A soft, relaxed expression usually indicates contentment, while a tense or rigid expression may indicate discomfort or fear.

⭐️It’s important to remember that individual horses may have unique facial expressions and that context matters. Understanding a horse’s body language as a whole, including their posture and movements, will give you a more accurate understanding of their emotions and intentions. Additionally, familiarizing yourself with a particular horse’s typical expressions and behavior can help you interpret their facial cues more accurately.⭐️

I was so soo scared to take my Thoroughbred barefoot. I contemplated it for almost a year before making the leap! Everyone told me how it would destroy him.

When in reality, it set him free. He absolutely flourished in ways I never dreamed of✨

If you’re on the fence, I highly recommend committing to learning with an open mind. There’s much more that goes into creating beautifully sound bare hooves than just pulling shoes. It seems complicated at first, but it truly is so much simpler in the end🙏

Here are some key characteristics of Thoroughbred horses:

Speed and Agility: Thoroughbreds are renowned for their speed and agility, making them ideal for horse racing. They possess a powerful build with long, slender legs that allow for swift movement.

Temperament: Thoroughbreds are known for their high-spirited and energetic temperament. They are intelligent animals that respond well to training but may require experienced handlers due to their strong-willed nature.

Appearance: Thoroughbreds typically have a refined appearance with a lean body, deep chest, and muscular hindquarters. They usually stand between 15 to 17 hands tall (about 60 to 68 inches at the shoulder) and come in various coat colors, although bay, chestnut, and brown are the most common.

Versatility: While Thoroughbreds are primarily bred for racing, they are also versatile and excel in other equestrian disciplines such as show jumping, dressage, eventing, and polo.

Breeding: Thoroughbreds trace their lineage back to three foundation sires—the Darley Arabian, the Godolphin Arabian, and the Byerley Turk. Through selective breeding, these horses were crossed with native English mares to produce the modern Thoroughbred.

Thoroughbred racing is a popular sport worldwide, with major events such as the Kentucky Derby, the Epsom Derby, and the Dubai World Cup attracting large audiences and substantial betting activity. The breed's influence extends beyond the racetrack, with Thoroughbreds playing roles in other disciplines and even as pleasure riding horses for enthusiasts.

So many think Thoroughbreds can never go barefoot, but with the proper diet/quality hoof care/movement it is possible! 👏👏

My flood effected TB Clients living in the Mowbray port Douglas area. I've been trimming these 4 TBs for a few years now! We have built some beautiful strong feet. These horses have been the most flood effected and it's still heavy rain ongoing in there area! (3 months monsoon plus cyclone). Their owner is very proactive with there environment, shelter and footing & keeping on top of regular hoof care at home. Was such a treat to see all there feet looking amazing as over night heavy rainfall made a slow trip and a couple of trees across ocean road. 😍
