Another great day of training for Stormchaser Schutzhund Club at Top City Dogs! Our dog/handler teams worked on their energy and drive while being obedient to their handlers and ignoring other dogs on the field. Quite a few of these teams will be ready to trial this spring - how exciting!

We had 14 brand new certifications earned at the first biennial Top City Dogs Pet CPR and First Aid seminar from #PetTech!
Thank you to Jessica Davis of Arfordable Dog Training who came to us all the way from San Antonio, TX to teach this amazing seminar and share this life-saving knowledge! And double thank you to her for bringing the wonderful Diego - The Golden Goodest Boy along so that our students could practice their newfound skills on a living, breathing dog! Diego was an absolutely perfect model and a fantastic ambassador for the skill level and experience that Jessica has to offer as a trainer. The people in her local community are lucky to have her!
Amongst the students were also five amazing pet-based businesses from Kansas and Missouri who had representatives come to learn and obtain their PetTech certifications!

Our local Topeka friend Kloie Street is doing a fun training challenge for #backtoschooltraining so Jack and I figured we'd take part too.
This week's challenge was to complete left and right spins without a lure and as always Jack did it with...enthusiasm. 😅
We're riding out these fireworks with extra friends and a whole lotta #toto ! With each dog having a fan on their kennel for white noise, two loud area fans, the air conditioner, the Icy breeze, and the radio going PLUS the fact that we are about 10 miles away from inner-city Topeka, the distant booms are all pretty well drowned out.
Typically we only take 3 boarding dogs at a time but we moved things around and made some extra space for 3 additional dogs to help give them some peace and quiet away from the epicenter of the chaos.
We're glad that we can help out where we can. All the dogs here tonight are feeling safe, secure and calm. For those who aren't lucky enough to get away from the noise, make sure your dog has their collar and tags on. If you absolutely need to take them out once more tonight PUT THEM ON A LEASH AND GO OUTSIDE WITH THEM! Yes, even if you have a fenced in yard! Make sure their microchips are up to date with your correct information.

Jax is our current board and train and he is such a giant ball of sunshine! Despite that, he is a total wild child who does whatever he wants- WHENEVER he wants - and so his owners called Kali at TCD for some help! He has been with us for about a week now and has had a beautiful leash walking transformation, but we still have lots of work in other areas before he makes his way back home to his people. We think they're going to be pretty happy with the "new" Jax!

With previous foster dog Navi now gone to her new forever home, its time to bring in ABMR foster dog #3. There is NO shortage of Belgian Malinois wasting away in animal shelters and Odie here was just another one of those numbers.
We pulled Odie from the Kansas City Animal Services shelter on Friday 1/27/23 and it was immediately appearant that he needed some pretty serious vet care! He had been neutered by the shelter the week prior, but the remaining scrotal tissue was seeping blood and pus everywhere!
Odie spent the entire weekend with the amazing veternary staff and students at the Kansas State Emergency Veternary Clinic where he had a total scrotal ablasion surgery. He's been back with us at Top City Dogs for about 12 hours and he's feeling a LOT better.
He was a bit of a terror at the clinic (who wouldn't be with an infected scrotum?), but won the heart of his surgeon MJ Soula DVM. She and her team took phenominal care of him and we couldn't be more grateful!
Odie has an expected two-week long road to recovery from this ordeal and then we can start working on training and behavioral evaluations in order to get him adoptable.
This was an EXPENSIVE weekend-long stay hospitalized at an ER clinic. If you would like to donate to Odie's hospital bill (around $2500!) please visit the American Belgian Malinois Rescue website and gift them the money directly. While we do house and take care of Odie at Top City Dogs, they are the ones who foot all of his bills.
We can't wait to see what Odie has in store for his future!
