Black is the most common coat color because the gene for black coat (the B allele) is dominant. Here's what that means in simple terms:

🧬 Think of genes like a game of rock-paper-scissors. The black gene almost always "wins" when paired with other color genes.

🔢 A dog only needs ONE copy of the black gene from either parent to have a black coat. Other colors (like brown/chocolate) need TWO copies of their specific gene to show up.

🐶 Labs, German Shepherds, Rottweilers, and Newfoundlands are famous for their beautiful black coats, but almost any breed can rock the black look!
