Much like a dog standing amidst a field of tall grass, we can probably all relate to the feeling of barely keeping our heads above water at some point in our lives. While we may have all experienced that feeling, the thing that separates us is how we react to it.
What do you do when you feel as if you’re sinking in the storms of life? Do you swim harder in an attempt to save yourself? Do you call out for help? Who do you call out to? The way we answer questions is what separates the believer from non-believer and the spiritually mature from the immature.
There tends to be a common misconception in the world and amongst new believers that Christians are (or should be) immune to the trials of life. Jesus Himself sets the record straight in John 16:33, when He informs us that His followers WILL experience tribulations. In addition to His promise of trials, He reminds us He’s overcome them all and we should take comfort in that.
As Christians, Peter gives us the perfect example of how we should respond to the troubles of life, even those we create for ourselves. While Peter’s example of calling out to the Lord for help when we’re sinking in the troubled waters of life may seem easy, even the most Spiritually mature Christians forget to turn to Christ instead of trying to save themselves from time to time. Although it may be difficult to accept our inability to keep our own heads above water, we must relinquish control and place our faith in the Lord.
In Philippians 4:6, we read that we should not be anxious about anything, but through our prayers, humble requests, and thanksgiving, we should make our requests known to Him. He hears our cries and will answer our pleas for help, all we have to do is keep our eyes on Him and .
